Sun Quan’s troops had already taken over Jiangling and held hostage the wives and children of Guan Yu’s army, leading to the dispersion of Guan Yu’s troops. Sun Quan sent out his generals (Zhu Ran and Pan Zhang) to capture Guan Yu and later executed him and his son Guan Ping at Lingju.

Guan Yu, with only a handful of men left, became isolated in Maicheng (麥城; southeast of present-day Dangyang, Hubei) with Sun Quan's forces on three sides and Cao Cao's at the north. As Guan Yu attempted to escape, he and his surviving followers, including his son Guan Ping, his Commandant Zhao Lei, were captured in an ambush in Zhang (章) Town (east of present-day Anyuan County, Hubei) by Sun Quan's generals Zhu Ran and Pan Zhang. Guan Yu was later executed by Sun Quan at Linju (臨沮), along with Guan Ping and Zhao Lei.

"I see…" This was problematic. That was not at all the date that was today, rather… It was a day he understood. He stopped in place and took his swords, holding them out to Yifeng, before letting them drop to the ground and kicking them away.

Unarmed completely, he said, “It is the sixth of February.”

The archer's heart leaped into his chest upon seeing the male's weapon's drawn when he had nothing on him, himself. The earringed man, however, was surprised to see him disarm himself, and then he heard the date spoken. 

"...That...can't be right." Ran turned his head to one side, fingers automatically rising to fidget with the decorative piece on his ear's cartilage. "...Are you certain?"

  "…" Something did seem wrong with Yifeng, something very wrong that was hard to even consider ignoring, "Zhu Ran…?"

He moved from his seat and stepped closer, yet not too close to force the man into a fight or flight response, “What is the date today Yifeng.”

The elder of the two raised a palm in warning, to state that he did not wish for the other to approach, and seemed to ponder the question given to him. 

"...It's two twenty nine," He replied, "October fifth."

  "Oh! Yeah, I remember dad said something about that rule once. ‘To improve morale’, or something. Yu mentions it a lot, too. It’s still a pretty ridiculous rule, if ya ask me! Putting you guys so far away! Well if it can’t be helped!" He let out a laugh, patting him on the shoulder. "Congratulations, either way!"

"Yeah… Quan’s just weird! He acts so laid back, but man, he can be so uptight."

He stumbled forward from the force of the 'pat' on his shoulder, the scrawny archer craning his neck to look at the older Sun. One day, this man was going to kill him with such violent shows of affection. Nevertheless, he popped his shoulders and lifted a hand to his head, a grin placed on his features. 

"Oh? I didn't notice. I'm sure that Lord Zhou Yu thinks very highly of such a tactic." Then again, Lord Zhou Yu often could be found shoving multiple sticks up his own ass, but Ran was going to keep quiet on how 'uptight' he felt the Grand Commander was. "How've you been, M'lord?"

  "… That was awhile back Yifeng. Are you sure you are fine?"

"I'm just fine. Why wouldn't I be? I've just been promoted...to... to..." 

What title was it again?

...Actually, it did seem a little strange that he'd not heard back from Cheng Pu for his congratulations. 

"..Ah, I can't remember."

"I thought I had seen Yifeng running about."

"Well, must not be him then. I will just have to wait on him entering the chamber."

"Eheh. No no, that was me. I was just very busy recently. Repelling the two generals you sent to kill me." 

"I won, by the way." 

"Not that you couldn't tell."
