“Good. I need a fuckin haircut.”
im a genius.
“ We don’t have to wait… I can fight them. ”
“And risk gathering more attention? No. We wait.”
BLUSHU
…Why she blush at me?
“… Got something else I can use? Like maybe a bow or crossbows?” His bullets had been all used up and did not have any other method of fighting outside of hand-to-hand combat plus his knife located near his ankle.
FROM HIS SIDE, Basch brandishes a bow and quiver--- tossing it over to him with hopes that the other man’s reflexes were enough to catch them before they were taken into gravity’s embrace. “Put them to good use,” he requests in return, hand perched on his hip.
It took a moment for the captain’s words to register as her eyes— her focus— were still fixed on the horizon despite the fact that she no longer truly saw anything. She had been near-enough to lost in thought, something she ordinarily would not have allowed herself had she been better rested. She thought over their route, though, mapping it out as best she could in her mind based only on what she had been taught, what she had learned, since they headed towards lands she had never seen herself.
When she finally did fully hear his command, she shook her head— shaking her sense back— and then spun on her heels as quickly as she could to respond. At first, she looked surprised, though there was a hint of confusion in her expression as well. Her eyes narrowed as she moved toward him, her steps more purposeful than they had been in hours, and she opened her mouth to speak. Most likely, she was going to protest, citing that they could still press on a bit further before it became too dark. But, before the words came, her eyes caught sight of the rest of the group and she paused. Her eyes left the captain to take another glance at the horizon as she thought and— though she did not want to admit it— he was right. They needed to stop; they needed to rest.
She let out a sigh of defeat— her displeasure obvious— though even she was unsure if her frustration was due to their situation or her own fatigue… or both. Then finally, her eyes on the others as they began the long process of settling in, she turned back to Basch and spoke, genuinely curious but also concerned.
“ This is the safest place you’ve spotted so far, then? ”
BASCH PERCHES HIMSELF at a distance from the rest of the group, shoulders leaning heavily on the desert palm that planted itself in the ground behind him. Somewhere towards the center of their newly established camp, Vaan preoccupied himself with aiding the other two youngest ( Penelo & Larsa ) in making a fire while Balthier and Fran watched from their little spot on a fallen tree, chattering idly about their pursuit of riches. It seemed unnatural for him to join the others in their idle gossip and fraternization, especially with the title of traitor still looming over his head like a cloud that threatened to pour rain. A traitor may seek redemption, but that was only possible with the acceptance of his peers. Even then he doubted their belief in him, though he was certain that Vaan had begun to trust him.
The footsteps he had grown accustomed to hearing at his side grew closer and heavy. With a lift of his head, he immediately notes the edge to his princess’s mien--- certainly she would have encouraged them to move forward had the others agreed with her, though the majority as of then agreed with his suggestion for rest. Her lips opened, but protesting words fell silent on her tongue and she gave in with a defeated sigh, turning once more to gaze at the exhausted group situating themselves amongst a crackling fire.
Her question resounds and he answers: “Aye. Within our range, this was the safest.” Pausing for a moment, he then adds, “I will warn you if danger approaches--- so please rest, Lady Ashe.”
“Who’s giving up?” Says she whose blade is ever adamant midst the steadfast alignment of one’s mentality. Forthright does her stride carry her only moments after combat’s hiss. Ne’er one to lay down.
“With hope, certainly not you.”
Arms are crossed over his chest and gaze returned to the looming figures in the distance. Such tropics he was unfamiliar with would remain unexplored for a while longer. First he must ensure the safety of the woman who wandered away from civilization.
