I’m not yet sure what I’ll do with these, certainly they need to be re-photographed but, in the meantime, appreciating their delicacy and beauty and hoping they don’t fall apart in the handling.

I’d like to think that this series of work may be what John Diamond calls Cantillation. In art this is, I believe, when the creation of the work bypasses the intellect and arises from the soul.

I was wholly unhappy with the outcome of this piece. My tutor loved it, despite my insistence that it wasn’t entirely my work. Frustrated by how long it was taking me to resolve this particular project and totally stuck in my head, I had accepted the assistance of a very skilful male technician, himself a talented artist, who finished it off for me in double quick time. Although incredibly grateful for his participation in the moment, the process then felt rushed and the outcome entirely too phallic for my liking. And not in a way that sat comfortably with me. Even though much of my work is suggestive, sometimes provocative, this was not where I was at with this piece. To be honest, I didn’t know where it had the potential to go and maybe I just needed more time to envision what that might be. That said, I’ve chosen photos here that reflect the work’s original elements and accept that the process was indeed a steep learning curve in not needing to rush toward an outcome, but allowing myself time to feel into myself and to really notice where I’m at.
