This is my octonauts sideblog so most of the stuff here is gonna be about fic recs, fanart, headcanons, reblogs, etc.

I've been watching Octonauts for a couple of years now, and I've been in the fandom since 2023, kinda have been unactive, and now I'm just starting to make stuff for the fandom :0 My favortie is Peso!!

Uhh these are my main ships? I mostly like Shellso, am a multishiper but I just generally don't ship a bunch for Octonauts especially since I headcanon some of them having formed famillial bonds

Being pretty new to the Octonauts fandom, I’ve recently found myself exploring the Octonauts OCs tag on tumblr as of late lol! After looking around for a bit, I thought it would be so fun and whimsical to draw some silly goobers! So here’s Brown, Jupiter, and Peppalmoner all going on a silly sunset adventure!

I forgot but I legit had an octonauts lore doc from a couple months ago before I went into hiatus, so before I really like forget I'm gonna post some stuff I've written (i guess???) Theres like a lot of tabs and stuff so I'll try and make it as neat as possible with the tumblr formatting

Octonauts Crew

The Octonauts is a well-renowned foundation formed by Professor Inkling (who at the time tenured in a prestigious university in marine animal behaviours). The full name is The Octonauts Marine Sciences Research and Conservation Foundation. They mainly specialize in a multitude of marine environments worldwide, with expeditions in Antarctica, everglades, pacific ocean, Mariana Trench, kelp forests, etc.(This is legit the only thing I wrote in this tab. what.) ------ Peso Penguin

Peso’s design is a completely fictitious species of penguin; however, I have in mind that his species would live somewhere in Chilé. His species is a mix between the king penguin (Chile), little penguin (Australia/New Zealand), and the yellow-eyed penguin (New Zealand).

Roles in the Octopod: Medic, medical consultation in expedition planning, etc.

Mainly the one who sources medical equipment, medication, first aid kits, etc.

------ Barnacles Bear

Roles in the Octopod: Sea Captain and Maritime Pilot

Due to being a maritime pilot, he researches difficult conditions, usually creates plans and preparations for geographically difficult locations to steer.

This applies to research and conservation efforts as well.

However, he is not very well-versed in research, so for research expeditions, he mainly focuses on creating plans for safety, protocols, and preparations. (wow how creative Halcyon)

------ Dashi Dog

Roles in the Octopod: Maritime Pilot, IT, Documentation, etc

Dashi is also another maritime pilot, who usually helps him in documenting current conditions and making predictions, discusses with the Captain about preparations for pros and cons, and delivers to Tweak the plans and considerations.

When she’s not out and about, she mainly documents their journey with photographing and sends their research papers to journals and publishers

She also does IT maintenance most of the time inside (im guessing I was supposed to write "inside the octopod"

Vegimals

So, I’m keeping the origin story of the Vegimals from the Meomi book (The Octonauts Explore the Great Big Ocean). I just love the idea of Shellington as a father figure so much :D!!

I’m thinking that, based on the design, Tunip was initially chosen as a spokesperson because it resembles more of the fish aspect rather than the vegetable part. It’s also easier for Shellington to study because he’s more accustomed to studying fish rather than, well, vegetables. Turnip is also more social and less nervous, so that’s a benefit too. 

From the book title, specifically the Great Big Ocean part, I made the choice that the vegimal fish species would be from the Pacific Ocean. This would also mean that fish species would be kind of all over the place? I’ll try to make most of them native to Hawaii; however, some fish, such as cod, halibut, etc. I can’t really find. In that case, I would try to find any Pacific Ocean counterparts and check on seafood websites if it is a common fish to be imported to Hawaii, or an invasive species found in Hawaii. However, I still headcanon the non-native vegimals being culturally from Hawaii. This also applies to some vegetables, such as turnip, radish, and carrot, so I’ll try to find specific vegetables that are grown in Hawaiian farms. So yes, Hawaiian vegimals yay. I think the crew would make head stop in Hawaii annually, where the Vegimals’ birthdays happen. If I remember correctly, they hatched from their egg on the same day, which the crew just decided was their birth day. I do think that the vegimals do get their “fish” and “vegetable” birthdays, based on the life cycle of their respective plant and fish species. So, three birthdays for each vegimal! (Genuinely HOW is the vegimals the most fleshed out designs i have and the most fleshed out characters???) ------

"These Fuckers Need Taurine" (side note: what? huh? hello?)

Kwazii and Barncales is the top of the “SEVERELY NEED TAURINE” list, so their diet has a lot of seaweed. I think based on their anatomical form they cannot digest plant food, but there’s maybe some magic or chemistry bulshit that pre-digests it FOR them. Maybe its a supplement idk

"Not leaves and grass, no, except to kill hunger pangs. Those things require either special plumbing to digest, or to be cooked first, so they won’t get much out of them.

Canines are able to digest things like nuts and berries, and often nibble them even when they also have meat. Bears, civets and raccoons are all fairly omnivorous even in species who mainly eat meat. But cats can’t digest any vegetation unless it’s well-cooked, or has already been semi-digested in the guts of their prey, and they die if they don’t get meat at least every few days.

Mustelids I’m not sure of. Some seem to be pretty-much pure carnivore, but badgers are certainly omnivores." (I'm pretty sure this was from another site, probably a quora link but I haven't searched for it yet???)

For Dashi: She’s still be able to digest some veggies, but would generally need for it to be really well cooked. She has to eat nuts and berries i think. (also, why am i trying to make food??? for the octonauts characters??? huh??? idk man i'd probably just go with the meomi way of explaining things and say like. they're a special breed of animals????? idk man its nightime and im going crazy rn)

Boundaries

Hey!! Im slightly back i guess, im mostly here to like finish up requests and other stuff alongside finish the veginals and other stuff probably next week, i think the most confident thing i can say rn is that itll probably be a veryyyy short return.

Meanwhile i guess im just here to talk more about my boundaries,, so some people have like privatepy dm'ed who arent mutuals and irl friends and that makes me kind of uncomfy espc since i'm a minor. So I'm sorry if this seems impolite but if you aren't my mutual before dming me I will not reply to you.

I'm kind of tired of people atwpping over my boundaries so I'm sorry if I hurt your feeling but I will not acknowledge nor reply. I will not reply unless it is my inbox, reblog, or a comment.

This is also another thing but if i do go back long term I am not doing requests again.

Like if its those sending pepo requests in my inbox i absolutely love them but i am not drawing requests again. It was kind of bad for my exhaustion to keep making artwork while handling school (which recently has ramped up in workload again).

Err,, idk what else to put here so i guess that's it so far. Hopefully ill be back in this blog for a while (:D) but i cant really guarantee that (D:)

Keeping This Blog as an Archive

Hey!

Due to some recent irl stuff, loss of interest, and my mental health, I'm going to keep this blog as an archive.

I'll still do some requests, but I'm not going to make any original posts afterwards. And it is hughly likely I post them after months. Maybe one day I'll get back into the fandom, and maybe, start posting sporadically.

Hey, I'm so sorry for completely disapearing for alike a week or two on tumblr D: I am VERY burnt out and idk if I have art block but it's been pretty hectic for me trying to make octonauts artwork as fast as i could a couple months ago, espc since I haven't really done this before. And I also lost some interest in octonauts aswell :( And I'm generally doing not all that well rn, with school getting more hectic.

I have a pretty nasty habit of tracking my posts and comparing its worth with how much notes it gets while... that wasn't the reason i made this blog. i burnt myself out very much trying to make the best artwork i could in the shortest spand possible to have just enough notes and loosing my enjoyment for the octonauts in the first place. I just need to have a little break and remind myself that this blog was supposed to be me enjoying the octonauts, making my silly little headcanons and redesigns, and let these funky guys run around my head.

I do have a couple posts planned, like doing the octonauts secret santa and go finish all reqs, alongside all of the last vegimals I have left to design. But I can't really guarantee any more posts after those with the same posting frequency I had before (and a very likely chance I'll have a pretty bug hiatus as I try to focus more with irl stuff).

There's some things I have to change with the blog since I can't really keep up (and like... leading to a pretty big crash even though I haven't made a lot of fanart TT-TT), I'm definitely going to post less frequently as I did before. I'm also going to close my requests, but those who have already requested before I made this post are still going to get fulfilled.

I'm so sorry for my really bad inactivity! Please have some patience with me, especially with posting.

please take plenty of rest. if you genuinely feel mentally unwell the best option is to give yourself time to relax even if you're trying to get thigns done. please don't try to force yourself into posting frequesntly if youre in that current mental state, itll only damage you more. focus on your irl stuff and take some time to heal before having the motivation to post again. I completely understand your petty habit of tracking your posts it really is unhealthy, but I really hope you get out of that habit (getting rid of a habit IS extremely hard but I believe in you) and start to feel joy again in your blog. try managing your posts as soon as you heal, for example doing the requests one by one each day and finishing off the vegimal designs but most importantly DONT RUSH yourself! I sincerely hope you eventually recover. take care of yourself halcyon ◞ ﹏ ◟
