Flarping.com will close on March 30, 2019
Eridamn here. When we started work on Flarping 2.0, we wanted to ignite the passion a lot of you had for our past communities. The revival was about giving you the tools to reconnect with old friends and hopefully make some new ones.
So it’s with a heavy heart that we announce the website will close on March 30, 2019.

Things you can do
Add social media details to your profile and feed posts. To add social media info to your profile and icons to your posts:
Go to Edit Profile.
Click the OOC tab.
Fill in the fields under Contact Details and click Update.
These fields can also be viewed on profiles under OOC.
When browsing feed posts, click the Twitter/Tumblr icons to be taken to that user’s profile/blog. You’ll need to copy/paste for Discord and Skype.
Feel free to link roleplay or personal accounts - whatever suits you.
Say goodbye in the Discord server. We will be closing our official Discord server on March 31st. Be sure to trade contact info and collect any content you wish to keep.
Trade contact info and gather content. Reach out to people you want to keep in touch with. Compile all the content you want to keep such as text, images, screenshots, etc. Please don’t wait to do this.
Why shut down?
TZ and I are Flarping’s co-creators, co-owners, and co-funders. The decision to shut down was entirely ours and is something we’ve been putting off for a while.
Simple answer: We’re burned out. The site got to be too much to deal with for what it is. Can we afford it? Monetarily, yes. In every other facet, nah.
Further elaboration for people who like lists:
Loss of interest. Flarp was brought back because people expressed interest and we had the funds and resources to make it happen. What better reason did we need to Just Do It than the opportunity to reunite a community and get some coding practice out of it? Investment in the source material, for one. Our first mistake was committing to a project linked to a fandom we moved on from a long time ago.
Loss of motivation. The data loss and botched update cost us months of work and killed our drive to continue working on the site outside of core function fixes and paying the bills.
Loss of free time. We’re busier than ever with our careers and personal lives. The site and its community require constant hands-on attention we cannot possibly provide.
Why not sell or give the site away?
Because Flarping is a privately owned site that TZ and I (the owners) put a lot of work and money into. Too many elements--domain, script license, custom code--are connected to us to justify giving it away. As for selling it, that’s a legal no-no even if we wanted to in the first place.
Donations
We’ve removed our donate button from the dashboard, cancelled all recurring donations, and set aside funds to cover costs until March 30th.
Thank you

Donors Thank you to our donors who saw something in Flarp worth supporting and encouraged us to stick it out for as long as we could.
Full disclosure: donations were never a feasible means of funding the site, but every cent helped make this feel like a team effort and we can’t thank you enough for that.
Everyone Thank you Flarping community for supporting us, enjoying our work, and sharing your stories of the good times you’ve had and the people you’ve met through our sites.
Thanks for the memories (and the fish pics, they were awesome).
