Propagate by 3-4 inch cuttings in Spring and Summer. Use shoots that are neither soft and fleshy nor hard and woody. Seeds are available, but can be more difficult than cuttings.

Platyceriums can be grown in pots when small. It becomes difficult to move them into larger containers because as they grow they wrap their fronds around the pot, that must be broken to sever their hold.

Speed germination by soaking the seeds in lukewarm water for several hours before sowing. Dry them off and mix them with sand or dried coffee grounds. Sow them outdoors or indoors.

For compresses and rinses, pour half a cup of boiling water over 2 teaspoons of Viola tricolor, steep for 10 minutes and strain. Use several times daily. Take care, if you experience skin irritation or nausea after drinking tea made from Viola tricolor, discontinue the treatment.

Prepare a seed tray by covering a half inch layer of gravel or perlite in bottom of seed tray and fill it up with damp rooting medium. Cover the mixture with sand and sprinkle seeds thinly. Do not bury seeds. Cover with a piece of glass or clear plastic. If the container is placed near a window, put a sheet of thin paper over it. As soon as seeds germinate, ventilate the seedlings.

The best way to propagate is by dividing overcrowded clumps in Spring. Remove the plant from its pot and with a sharp knife cut through the root ball from the top down. Cyperus Alternifolius can also be propagated from flower heads. Cut off the tips of the leaves and put the cutting upside down in a jar of water.
