PTFC Moderates get tons of questions about making tifo, and since WE WANT TO SEE MORE, 10 pre-season tips:
IDEAS: Gather a bunch of friends for inspiration. Don’t worry about “doing it wrong”. Beer can be helpful!
NOTE: Not just for artists. Perfectionism is the enemy. “Bad” art works FINE across the park. IDEA is key.
FABRIC: Light cotton broadcloth or muslin. Old sheets work fine! Use Jo-Ann Fabrics coupon for max cheapness.
FABRIC PREP: For bright colors, and to minimize re-coating, prime fabric w/ cheap flat house paint.
FABRIC PREP: Hem edges and sew 2-stick pole pockets before painting. If sewing-challenged, staples work too!
ARTWORK: Think paint-by-numbers when creating – easy to fill in. Make words BIG & hi-contrast for readability.
DRAWING: Tape fabric down, go for it. We trace w/ digital projector, but you can get an opaque for under $30.
PAINT: Acrylic craft paint’s best, latex house paint’s fine. No tempera, runs in rain! I’ve Been Framed: cheap
DISPLAY: 2-sticks: Sturdy PVC pipe under 6 feet. Banners: use grommet tool from craft store, hang w/ zip ties.
