I propose this version of the border wall that I’m sure a fair bit of America could agree on.
So it seems that the monastic life was not for you at this time? How do you feel?
Leaving was incredibly sad because those brothers became family and we loved each other. But my time there was incredible. Honestly, seeing my past, I was completely dead before going to the monastery. I was not normal, I had something wrong with me, and I hurt many people and someone who I held and would say still hold close to my heart. Like REALLY bad. Had I not been thrown in there, I would say I’d have a one way ticket to hell, and I mean that. Only by God’s will will I ever be able to contact and meet these people and ask forgiveness. I’m not a perfect person, nor am I saintly, but thank God I was taken in there. It was only meant to be 2 weeks, and turned into 10 months. Not only did I learn many things that I was complete idiot about in terms of the faith when I was there, it straightened me up and made me realize that this life was given to us by God and that I’m not going to get anywhere being the old manipulative piece of dung I was before going there.
My entire perspective of things are changed forever and God willing I can hold in that an learn more.Pray for me.
Back after haven been a novice for 9 or so months. One thing I learned: To make God laugh, tell Him your plans.
Hope you’re all well.
A trailer to a new documentary of the monastery.
Staying at a monastery, just got blessed to stay the 6 months to see if it's the life for me or not. This is why I've been inactive. Please pray for me!
“These eight passions should be destroyed as follows: gluttony by self-control; unchastity by desire for God and longing for the blessings held in store; avarice by compassion for the poor; anger by goodwill and love for all men; worldly dejection by spiritual joy; listlessness by patience, perseverance and offering thanks to God; self-esteem by doing good in secret and by praying constantly with a contrite heart; and pride by not judging or despising anyone in the manner of the boastful Pharisee (cf. Luke 18 : 11–12), and by considering oneself the least of all men. When the intellect has been freed in this way from the passions we have described and been raised up to God, it will henceforth live the life of blessedness, receiving the pledge of the Holy Spirit (cf. 2 Cor. 1 : 22). And when it departs this life, dispassionate and full of true knowledge, it will stand before the light of the Holy Trinity and with the divine angels will shine in glory through all eternity.”
St. John Damascene, “On the Virtues and the Vices” from The Philokalia: The Complete Text (Vol. 2)
It’s completely okay to stop dating someone because they don’t ever want children, you can’t make peace with their political or religious beliefs, their values are immensely different from yours, you have different priorities, etc. It’s not intolerant. You have every right to set your own expectations for choosing a potential spouse.
one day you’ll wake up at 9:30am on a Sunday w the love of ur life and you’ll make some coffee and pancakes and it’ll all be alright
And go to church together
And you get to see your love worship Jesus and everything will be right with the world
What, do you people not eat on Sundays?
In order to receive Holy Communion you must fast from food and drink since the night before, many Orthodox wish to commune every Sunday so they do not eat breakfast every Sunday, until after the Divine Liturgy.
Yeah, the first thing we eat on Sundays must be Holy Communion, and after that, blessed bread. This is why our coffee hours are…generally more than coffee. The “Work of the People” is genuine work.
It’s embarrassing when things get silent for just a moment, and your stomach growls like a roaring bear.
What a priest should do in case of Eucharistic miracles?
In The Russian Orthodox service book of the Hieratikon (ROCOR- the priests prayerbook for various liturgies and also reccomendations for what priests should do in the event of unexpected occurences) says: “If after the consecration of bread and wine a miracle is revealed; if the bread manifests the appearance of a child or the wine the appearance of blood, and if in a short time this appearance does not change: if they do not appear again in the form of bread and wine, but if they remain thus without change. Then let the priest not take communion because it is not the body and blood of Christ, but a miracle from God manifest only because of the lack of faith or some other reason”.
If such an occurence, the Eucharist is not to be given, but set aside and call the bishop.
