What were the chances that Sonic ever got this opportunity a second time? To witness Shadow at peace instead of merely at ease and passively vigilant? None, Sonic thought as he peeled himself away, cool air rapidly filling the divide. Less than none, because this didn't happen. Not in a million lifetimes. Sonic looked. Wow, Shadow was pretty. Designer lab baby. There was no weapons-based reason for long lashes scattered across a tan muzzle or the eyeliner-streak of crimson pointing towards his tufted ears like an arrow. Shadow was so sharp, pointy, even in sleep, but differently; like the first snowfall of the season versus an avalanche. Shadow appeared strangely mortal, too, with his cheek squished against a pillow. Like something Sonic could hold with his hands instead of glancing with his fists. Oh, this had been a big mistake, huh?

Shadow, Tails and Sonic took a day off to travel to Japan and a pend the Day of the cherry trees. Shadow, who knows the way, took the lead, followed by Sonic and Tails. Tails is distracted by the cherry tree, but Sonic keeps an eye on him and Shadow. None of them seem to pay attention to the Fuji Mountain towering in the background.
