Tumblr Boycott to Protest Continued Lack of Movement to Ban White Nationalists

Tumblr @staff have been silent about the use of this site by white nationalist bloggers, while numerous other sites (see this post) have made actions to ban nazis/white nationalists/”alt-right”/fascists. Tumblr needs to know their lack of action is unacceptable. I love my tumblr community and want to stay, but if this continues, I will have to considering leaving.

I suggest we push back, and unite to boycott on a certain date. I’m arbitrarily suggesting September 1st - it’s nine days from this post, and that gives it enough time to hopefully get spread as far as possible. Boycotts only work if lots of people do it. Please consider joining me and logging off tumblr on September 1st, to let them know we’re serious about their apathy towards white nationalism.

Let’s also let @staff know that as they’re trying to increase advertiser spend, they should be well-aware of most ad tech companies (on the buy and sell side) have explicit rules against hate speech. You can tell Tumblr is aware of this because they’ve doubled-down on trying to locate the NSFW posts (quite badly based on how their technology fails so often) for what I imagine is brand safety for advertisers.

Given groups like Sleeping Giants has been successful in amplifying the voices of users protesting brands appearing on Breitbart, any other platform could be next in having their advertisers signaled with a screenshot of said posts where hate speech is proudly displayed against an ad served… well, you get the drift.

AU Ideas

Spy AU: I was pretending to love you just to steal secrets but now I’m regretting my decision, I may actually be in love with you.

Dracula AU: It’s a steampunk world with flying ships, mechanical wings and steam powered pneumatic multi-stake launchers. Vampires take heed.

Werewolf AU: I legit hate being a werewolf. Everyone makes it sound great, but the transformation is painful and there’s hair everywhere and I think I’m allergic to wolf dander.

Fantasy AU: I’m just trying to survive in a world where goblins are killing and stealing, trolls don’t just bother goats crossing bridges and everything smells like swamp… how are you so clean?

Zombie AU: The hordes have rotted away and society is rebuilding. We were doing fine until the new government started interfering. 

Angel AU: You’re an angel and I love you, but is that just because I’m suppose to? God is love and all that, so is that just transfer since you’re his avatar?

Teacher/Student: Yes, I’m aware that I’m more than a little hot but anything more than what we have is just morally wrong. I’d just like to be your friend.

Survival AU: I know we don’t have any food, but I’d like to point out that there are plenty of bodies in the wreck that are doing to get ripe really quick if we don’t start building some fires and preserving… look I know this is creepy and wrong but we’re going to starve if we don’t do something and this is the easiest way to get some food in us with little effort, so we can build shelter and signal for rescue. Don’t look at me like that.

Royalty AU: I’m a prince who has to marry a princess but I’m not okay with this forced marriage thing even is she is pretty cute. What? What do you mean she’s missing? I don’t know the first thing about saving princesses! I’m a prince!

Demon AU: I’m a demon and I’m suppose to make sure that you sell your soul and get pulled into hell, but I really like you and I don’t want to see you tortured for eternity. 

Magical AU: Spells and spellcasting is real, but most people don’t know anything about it because magical talents are inherited. Most with magic don’t want to let everyone know because there are nonmagics who don’t appreciate spells. Sometimes they even go out looking for spell casters.

“If you mean by ‘help’, it’ll give ya nightmares for a week, then definitely.” She chuckled as she held up the movie. “No offense. Trust me, you really shouldn’t watch this. You should probably watch something that’s a bit less realistic.”

The more she talked about it, the more uncertain Pearl started to feel. With a nervous chuckle, she nodded. “Yes. Seriously.” She did fight in a war. A roller coaster couldn’t be worse than that. “How about we just… go,” she offered then, trying not to think about it too much. 

“Alright then.” Pearl was pretty strong, so she could probably handle the roller coaster. But she did look really apprehensive about it. It’ll probably be fun, though. Pearl’s probably not gonna like it, but it’s worth a try. “Yeah, let’s go.”

For a moment, she did let her thoughts linger. While it wasn’t necessarily the safest idea, nor was it one she would usually entertain, she finally nodded and straightened. Hands smoothing over her shirt, she decided that it wouldn’t be that bad. Perhaps… it would be fun. “Okay.” So, maybe it wasn’t okay, but she knew that most of her alternatives wouldn’t qualify as being rowdy. 

“Wait, seriously?” She was actually a bit surprised Pearl agreed to her offer. She expected her to react a different way. Nonetheless, she was still happy Pearl wanted to go with her. “The roller coaster’s the sickest ride in Funland. It’s not really that sick, though.”

If she was being honest with herself, she wasn’t very good at ‘hanging out.’ At least, past experiences had taught her she wasn’t. Steven and Amethyst had both shared common interests and humor, and Pearl wasn’t always overly enthused to participate in their games or jokes. 

Yet, there she was. Steven having asked her that morning to at least try to get along with Amethyst while he was away with Greg, insisting that they weren’t as different as it had seemed. Pearl felt she had owed it to the boy to at least try. 

“So, Amethyst,” the gem started slowly, hands wringing together as she tried to find some form of grounding that would work for them. “Do you want to play checkers?” They’d done that before, and it wasn’t that bad. Perhaps it could actually be fun, and it was far from destructive. 

Amethyst could agree with the fact that Pearl isn’t good at relaxing. But that was one of the things she liked about her. And she liked her company and attempts to ‘hang out’. though Steven and Greg are funnier to spend time with, they weren’t around at the time. Besides, she could probably have some sort of bonding moment with Pearl.

“Eh, it’s kinda boring, don't ‘cha think?” She blurted out at the gem’s question. Checkers was quite soothing, but she wasn’t really in the mood to play it. “I’m feelin’ somethin' a bit rowdier, ya know? How ‘bout we go to Funland? It’s got this sick roller coaster we could go on.”
