How to Refill Toner Cartridges without a Fill Hole?
The replenishment of an empty toner cartridge is almost universal in all brands. The only difference lies on the method of opening the toner chamber. Users either remove a fill plug or create a fill hole before proceeding with the refill process. To administer the refill of no-fill hole cartridge is outlined below:
Before the refill prepare the following:
a) Purchase a refill tool. A one-time purchase that can be used for subsequent refills. This is a special type of soldering iron where the copper tip is cylinder-shaped at 18mm to 20mm in diameter. When plugged, the copper tip heats adequately to allow easy carving of a hole on the cartridge’s polymer surface.
b) Purchase a compatible toner refill kit. Before acquisition, check the printer brand and model and the cartridge number. Then order a compatible toner refill kit from a reliable seller.
c) Check package contents upon delivery. A complete set of compatible toner refill kit should include a bottle of replacement toner powder, a pair of latex gloves, toner wipes, funnel cap, and instruction manual.
d) Choose a well-ventilated and well-lighted area to conduct refills. Better to work on a flat and sturdy workbench or table with a trash bin nearby. Line the workspace (table and floor area) with old newspapers to prevent toner from coming in contact with and leave stain marks. This is just a precautionary measure though, in case toner spill occurs. Although toner spill is possible, it rarely happens.
How to Refill "No-Fill Hole" Toner Cartridges?
Read the instruction manual.
Remove the empty cartridge from the printer. Place on the table and mark the exact location of the fill hole.
Plug the refill tool and place it on the tool stand to heat. It should take 3 to 5 minutes.
When heated, vertically aim the cylindrical tip over the marked spot. Push the refill tool gently to carve a hole and reveal the toner chamber. Once done, withdraw the refill tool, let it rest on the tool stand, and unplug. Leave it to cool down.
Check the hole and retrieve loose plastic material inside the chamber.
Dump old toner inside the trash bin. If old toner still remains inside the chamber, use a toner vacuum to relieve all residue.
Pour in the replacement toner. Screw on funnel cap over the toner bottle rim. Tip the bottle and let toner flow freely into the chamber. Then clean off toner residue on the cartridge’s surface using toner wipes.
Seal the fill hole with duct tape or electrical tape.
Replace the lockout chip.* Locate and open the crack or hole that holds the lockout chip. Remove the old chip and insert the new one.
After the refill, do the following:
a) Gently shake the cartridge from side-to-side to distribute toner evenly. b) Load the cartridge back to the printer. c) Run a test print.
This is the entire how to refill toner cartridges with toner refill kits process.
*Not all cartridges require the replacement of a lockout chip. So check it out first before proceeding with this step.
