To stand up for science doesn’t necessarily mean to accept what they tell you is the truth and categorically negate the existence of any other possibility just because it’s not what the majority thinks. Some of what you call conspiracy teories have some good questions and good points. Not everyting, obviously. But when people start to ask uncomfortable questions about something, it’s easier to just spread the voice that they are conspiracy theorists than actually answer their questions. To stand up for science means to stand up for dialogue and research, for knowledge. Did you actually inform yourself about anything that’s written in that post before publishing it? We need to separate what is actually bullshit and what could mean some step forward for science. Galileo Galilei was called a conspiracy theorist himself, but he was right, and without his questions and his attempt to answer them, science wouldn’t have gone so far. So, everybody on social networks seems to know everything but nobody really understands what they are talking about. I don’t consider myself a conspiracy theorist but I try at least to inform myself correctly before trying to teach it to others. Sorry if it’s rude, I just needed to say my opinion.

Why I don’t ship Gwourtney as friends or more.

(I will grammar and spell check this monstrosity at another time )

Let me start off by saying that it has nothing to do with them both being females and I think people should be allowed to ship whatever floats their boat (or ship lol) but when it comes to the Total Drama series, I feel that they went down the same hole that a lot of shows do as far as when they keep making seasons out of demand and popularity, but the writing of the show suffers greatly. So many shows (ie greys anatomy, American horror story, vampire diaries, even Friends started throwing couples together like Rachel and Joey ) seem to get to a point where they run out of ideas and start throwing shit together that doesn’t make any sense.

Tdi aka the first season was great, it was funny, had these cute ships that had you really rooting for the characters, and relatively made sense ( even if Bigfoot made a normal appearance). Duncney was a ship that had a lot of popularity, so when they started season 2, I think they wanted to focus on that because they knew it drew viewers in, even if Courtney wasn’t in the first half of the season, it got people wanting to see what would happen next. This is also NOT to say Total Drama revolves around Ducan and Courtney, but the two are given more screen time than other characters when compared.

Anyway, my point is, their relationship has always come up in every season they are in. So to create more content, the writers couldn’t easily just let them stay together and live happily ever after, there had to be, as the title says, drama. So they made Courtney the polar end of her personally: driven, cut throat, and controlling. Making it easy for her and Duncan to have problems especially when the polar end of his personality is: uncaring, insensitive, a trouble maker. But those parts of them in the first season were cancelled out by each other when they were together. Duncan made Courtney let loose, Courtney brought out his sensitive side. They are both very guarded characters that manifest in different ways. Courtney tries too hard and cares too much, Duncan doesn’t try and doesn’t care at all. When it comes failure they are at different ends aof the spectrum where :Courtney tries to be perfect so she can’t fail, whereas Duncan doesn’t even try and you can’t fail when you don’t even try.

I can go on and on about the psychology of why they are so much more alike than people realize but that wasn’t the point of this lol.

The point so far is that the creators needed drama, so they made it. Part of that being the Duncan/Gwen hook up and aftermath.

It didn’t make much sense because as dysfunctional as their relationship became, Duncan and Courtney were always portrayed as being crazy about each other. She literally lost control when driving a bus because they just had to kiss each other. But I digress.

So back again to my point: why I don’t ship Gwourtney even as friends ( I keep getting off track oops)

The amount of betrayal you feel from a friend hooking up with someone you’re involved with causes irreparable damage to your friendship.

I know first hand what this feels like. Yes it hurts that a guy you cared about hooked up with another girl especially if it’s your friend, but YOU DO NOT GET OVER THAT SHIT QUICKLY AND BECOME FRIENDS AGAIN. Especially if you weren’t longtime friends before that.

Please try and convince me that if one of your friends hooked up with your ex that you wouldn’t have problems trusting them ever again. That your friendship wouldn’t be ruined.

Gwen appologized, yes. But an apology doesn’t just change everyrhjng. The pain stays there for a long long time.

I was a teenager when this happened to me as well (not all circumstances are exactly the same) and you don’t have the adult maturity to just move on and still be friends, you can try ( my friend and I did) and with time and effort you can be friends again (my friend and I had also been friends for years before it happened giving us something to try and salvage, Courtney and Gwen were mostly aquaintences before world tour)

So my point is you have to be pretty damn great friends to survive that kind of betrayal.

And it still stings from time to time.

If this were a real situation, I can see where the people around you are the only ones you’ve got so you make peace and forge friendships. But mostly, I think it was bad writing.

A lot of good characters/ships came out of the show as a whole. I love Total Drama, I wouldn’t have written this fricken essay if I didn’t lol but they really did a disservice to the shows potential.

It’s not the most coherent, but somewhere in here is the reason why I don’t see Courtney and Gwen as friends or more.

That and also her whole treatment of him in tda and how she made him sign a huge contact agreeing to like live up to her expectations and terms and conditions or smthn. I remember she made him stay up reading the entire thing.

Duncney didnt die in tdwt, but it actually died in tda where it was at its worst and only declined even further in tdwt. And while duncan is a tool and a cheater, courtney was still at fault for the relationship’s decay as she constantly wanted him to change into someone he wasnt…like…Courtney sweetie i love u but just date someone else yall aint good for each other like all that shit aint right lol
