My cat Zoey, she’s all in your face until you try to actually touch her.

A Formidable Opponent

She was tall for her age, only 6, with hair as curly as her mischievous grin. Asking always, “Why?” to nearly every factual statement she was ever told. Curious, and inquisitive; a formidable opponent to any authority figure that attempted to have all the answers or to make all of the rules. A kindergarten-teacher’s worst nightmare. But she didn’t mean to be a nuisance, perhaps she was just born with the little flame that felt it had to consume everything. Maybe she was designed with some unquenchable inkling to push the boundaries of her family, her community, the known universe. In this way, she doesn’t sound unlike the average child, but when compared to the docile, flower-like delicacy that was her older sister, she was, to say the least, a handful.

Deliberate Disobedience

She never seemed to feel the same way he did, about being deliberately disobedient. It’s not that she wanted to disrespect her father, she just never really felt that the rules were worth abiding or perhaps that she, in some fantastic way, could create an exception to them.
