Smorgasburg: Lumpia Shack, Outer Borough, Monsieur Singh
There's no better place for a foodie (like me) than Smorgasburg, the food vendor extravaganza in Brooklyn. When you make your way over to East River State Park in Williamsburg (or Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 2 in September), prepare yourself to behold a tightly-packed array of tents featuring international dishes and American favorites. Take a tour of the offerings first and then jump right in.
I started off with Lumpia Shack's pork spring rolls: Beautiful. This flavorful filling makes for a satisfying appetizer.
The sight of scallion pancakes drew me to Outer Borough's tent, where these folks are serving up scallion pancake rolls with several delicious filling options. I ordered the sweet, savory, unique beef roll, and was delighted. The scallion pancake alone was worth the purchase (and they sell them independently. Score. I nearly bought one, after finishing my roll).
After a meal on the green in view of the gorgeous lower Manhattan skyline, I couldn't help but venture back into the fray. I came out with a glorious concoction from Monsieur Singh. This honey/lemon/spearmint lassi is unlike anything I've experienced lately- sweet, refreshing and original, like a balanced glass of iced tea. Well worth it.
Brave food lovers, go forth and explore Smorgasburg.
