Hello! Firstly your art is amazing and magical and thank you for putting out process vids!!!!!!! Secondly, I'm sure this has been asked before but can you recommend any watercolor sketchbooks/pads? The one you're working in your latest vid seems vvv sturdy and doesn't seem to wrinkle too badly with water!
Thank you so much! My goal has been to try as many different types and brands of watercolour sketchbooks/journals so I can give an honest review / advice to people out there, as they ARE quite expensive and there are so many to choose from. I’m currently working in a Strathmore 400 Series Watercolour Journal, and I do genuinely love the cold-press texture and its ability to handles washes and multiple layers well without buckling much.
However, my favourite so far has been the Winsor & Newton Watercolour Journal. It’s cold-press as well, so there’s a beautiful texture to it that isn’t uniform like some paper brands, so it looks awesome. My favourite part however, is the absorbency of the paper. The paper seems to soak in the paint and pigment a bit more, so it’s easier to work with wet-on-wet techniques and allows for easier, controlled blooms and beautiful feathering techniques.
