The mysterious, the mythical, the magical... Inspired by a love of the fantasy world, instigated by the passers by who idealise similar realms.
A mix of venues and ventures this season, festivals and fairs and free public events across the Southwest UK a combination of collaborative and solo missions.. Many thanks to the many a soul who made these missions significant and super special! without the support, vibrational, verbal and financial, the journey would cease to continue. Big respect to all upon my journey for without you i wouldn't be me! =]
Some freestyle flows from the first couple of sunshine events in Cornwall
Pieces and prints set up as a temporary exhibition at The Beach House, a venue nestled in the north Cornish coast at my first event of the season, The Graff Jam, a free community art event which aims to engage the local community in collaborative art projects.
Springing into doodles back for the UK summer for the first time in four years. Minimal funds for transport of structures, pitch fees, changing events and fallow years for some previous venue collaborations led me to a period of reconstructing my route, design book, signs and strategies for a lighter season of artistic meanders. A Period of inner city projections provided to the public across parks and pretty spots throughout Southwest cities kicked off the season from the sunshine spells of spring. Micro condensing my gear to be comfortably carried by myself on a bicycle, consisting of four components - a book of drawings, a tube of henna, a small notepad and a pen.
face on designs..
Lifting the greys of a dull day.. Positive quotes i’ve written and popped about the place, these ones taken from my favourite literature, films and music. Mostly gifted away, posted through letter boxes and stuck around public places in various cities.
Some doodles and daydreams created at various times within the roaming dome studio
From macro to micro.. terrariums and succulent arrangements became a well favoured pastime =] Low maintenance relatively self sustaining ecosystems, All containers up-cycled from various sources, mostly dump, charity and antique stores. The plants I selectively harvested from small scale growers public land and personally propagated within the van =] gifted and sold through public events nationwide NZ.
Mermaid entangled seas - larger than me. A welcoming stairwell dweller within Monster Inc Tattoo lounge, Cambodia. Complete freedom of expression given for this piece with only one request.. colour! Took around 1 week form contemplation to completion. I Dedicate this piece to heather feather, One of the Extravaganza fairs artistic elders who passed away at the time i was in the process of this piece.
For a long time, i dreamed of building my own chill/safe space structure. After quite some time of enduring sideways rain in flappy awnings and gazebos.. The dawning of the dome dream began to come through and the flow of the build occurred fairly naturally.. The following poetry sums up the experiences fairly flawlessly.
15 equilateral triangular faces, each made up from various places, bolt through 11 times, to join the 25 equal lines, they slot tight as the shape takes life, into a world of geometry i invite you to dive, a geodesic, energetic, interconnected space, no profusive plastics plagued the planet for this place, from the poles above your head to the fabrics beneath your feet, extensive foraging, upcycing, recycling and donating, from opshops, junkyards, scrapyards and backyards, have been reincarnated into this roaming dome, for under a months rent of your average western home, to live with comfort whilst naturally nomadically, to watch everchanging horizons expand endlessly, if minds are open to the possibility, and eyes are opened to the simplicity, whether a doctor an artist or a refugee, this space can be yours and you can be free.
Foliage inspired, a favoured theme within the doodle world and most transient of styles. Heavily influenced by the species surrounding me in whichever location I am immersed in, and the patterns plants involving flowering and falling cycles aligned with the seasons. Some examples from the above shots include Oak leaves, from an iconic tree dotted throughout my homeland origins in Cornwall UK, this shape I will often use in custom pieces to represent strength and purity. Fern fronds also heavily influenced me in my time within New Zealand, having highly symbolic importance within the Country, from the physical plant to the koru (spiral) shape associated with new beginnings and strength.
Fuel for contemplation
Animalesque.. blending creatures with creative flow
