Alicent in chapter 3:

“What,” she snarls instead.

“You know,” Rhaenyra says, leaning back against the wall, so easy, so assured, “When I first heard that my son was assigned to your classroom, I almost dropped him off myself. But I didn’t. Do you know why?”

Alicent stares at her. “I neither know, nor care—”

“Because I knew you did not want to see me. And I thought for his sake, it would be better if his first few weeks were just about him.”

Meanwhile in chapter 1:

It’s shocking, still, that Mysaria is the one to drop the child off, and not a nanny. It seems below her station.

But then Alicent realizes—of course.

Mysaria was sent on purpose, as a message, or a test. Perhaps a small assertion of nerve.

Because Rhaenyra likely knows perfectly well who Lucerys’s teacher is this year. This is Rhaenyra choosing not to come herself and making sure Alicent notices the choice; choosing someone Alicent cannot meaningfully object to, someone too useful to be dismissed and too inscrutable to be challenged.

Choosing, in other words, to be present by proxy, and to send a message:

I am watching. We are watching.

Re-reading the first three chapters over again while patiently waiting for the next update and this made me lol. Like my girl really thought Rhaenyra was doing some big manipulative scheme with double meaning while in the meantime the reality was that Rhaenyra was just trying to be considerate. I love unreliable narrators and you do Alicent so well as one in your fics. Hope you’re well.

likely hold the crown last chapter so I can finally put a bow on it but lately I’ve been really disliking it and how much I rushed the ending and also wrote over 200k words for no reason and therefore am putting it off. To be clear this is not me fishing for compliments so much as trying to be honest about my Process lately which has been writing while suffering from the classic ailment that is having a full time job that I must simultaneously be grateful for and also acknowledge how it is eating at my soul bit by bit on a daily basis

I feel like Alicent will later be revealed to be very into Rhaenyra wearing trousers in TFT. Also, the peaky blinders rode horses and did stuff with races, so if Syrax makes an appearance I assume they’ll be a race horse. Do these count as theories?

hi i know this is a long shot but I was wondering you would ever make a pdf of your damie fics available. I loved them both but my favorite was I think was called "you are land, I am dove" if I remember, but there was this one with them in college that I just loved so so much. When I saw you privated them, I thought I had them saved onto my old laptop, but I checked and I guess I did not. I would love to reread them again, I found the way you wrote dani and jamie so beautiful and I'll miss the fic. totally understand if not though, but either way I wanted you to know how much I loved that fic.

😭😭😭 This!!!! Also it has probably been so long since Rhaenyra has been called on her shit in any kind of way, I wonder if a small part of her got a thrill from it because it was Alicent. Rhaenyra’s present day POV is currently held from us so we assume that Alicent is the only one crippled by their past, but Rhaenyra let little things slip that suggest Alicent haunts her narrative too
