idk if this is an usamerican thing or not but it always blows my mind as a small european country resident that yall have many names and types of apples???? what do you mean its not just red yellow or green??? why is it so complicated??? who is granny smith????
'whats your favorite apple' 'red' 'no i mean like what type' '??????' actual conversatiom i've had with a mutual from usa
THIRTY TWO??????
Listen that doesnât even account for all the weird shit local farmers are getting up to.
May I present the best apple:
the world is so big and beautiful
What I want for Pride Month
i don't think i'll ever forget when the boys' PE teacher so casually prompted me to join the other lads. there were no bells and whistles or some big grand gesture making a massive deal. he tret me like he would any other young lad. school was rough for me (like with most queer kids), so moments like these really shine. cheers, sir đ«Ą
it would be so awesome
it would be so cool
ig since this is getting some amount of attention i'll also use this post to educate about the problem to the best of my ability (if anyone wants to chip in about it be my guest im certainly not the most qualified). and yes i get yall are upset about the porn bots but this isn't about bots this is about our sisters being harassed and threatened and having their accounts wrongly terminated. 2 years ago The CEO of Tumblr continuously terminated a trans woman and her alts and then continued to harass her on Twitter, threatening to call the cops if she continued to dispute the wrongful terminations of her blogs. Threatened to call A Person With A Gun to her home over an "explode him with hammers" type post. Trans women have been a continuous target for unjust termination by Tumblr's moderation staff regardless of their blog's content for years, and have failed to step in against users who harass trans women for a long ass time.
funnily enough kym has like the most complete and comprehensible coverage of the ceo's little stunt that i've found so far. link to their article
An animated like button is not enough to excuse the mountains of bullshit they put trans women through on this site.
Every June, i go to yet another pride festival and I think about gender not as biological or sociological, but linguistic.
We (humans) made all this up. For the sake of simplifying our understanding of the world we live in, we came up with categories that apply broadly to most instances. So when something new comes up, it's easiest to put things in one of those boxes.
This is not always applicable. That's why we have a word for 'fish,' and most people agree on what is and is not a 'fish,' but all fish do not share a common ancestor.
Another example: 'vegetable' is not a useful term in biology, but it is a useful culinary term. So we can put things like tomatoes (fruits), carrots (tuber), and broccoli (flower) in the vegetable category for cooking and dietary classification, even if individually they're different things.
Those kinds of classifications are useful in the disciplines where they are useful, but generally not outside of it. In an ideal situation you look at every instance with individual nuance, but sometimes that can be a bit much.
Arguing taxonomy is a favorite pastime of a certain kind of guy that I work with. It's a way to feel googleably smart, but its not always applicable in real-world situations. (Example: I once said I was cold. He told me that 'cold does not exist, it's the absence of heat.' Which might be true, but hypothermia is real. Warping of metal under extreme conditions is real. Contracting of molecules, shattering of glass, and presence of ice are all very real. So while possibly technically correct, functionally useless as a talking point. Believing that 'cold' does not exist does not make me less cold.)
When trolls are like 'what is a woman,' I'm like... several levels of education above answering that question in a way that they're willing to understand, because they are trolling. They dont actually want an answer and they wont listen to the answer i give them. "You'll still have to go to a procologist instead of a gynecologist." Etcetera.
Those are areas where the words 'man' and 'woman' might be useful distinctions, but it's also really rude to talk about a person's genitals, so I really don't need to know what kinds of doctors they see.
So when a person is not conforming to their gender, it's been easy for me to accept that linguistically they have a right to call themselves whatever they want, their social structure may allow for this, and biologically it's none of my fucking business.
A gentle reminder đđ€
Happy Pride month! đ
This is what's so fucked up about "nothing that requires the labor of others is a human right".
The labor is already being done under capitalism. The laborers are already being underpaid under capitalism.
When you propose removing the greedy profiteers and paying the workers a reasonable wage, people call that "slavery" while they have no problem with the current system.
They're not even trying to make sense.
i have a suggestion
Dude... allow me to add to your trove.
I have a folder of these on my phone... I'm not sure what that says about me!
@alexisstillgay well you gotta find and ring the bell to find out

"we have to accept the fact that the r word is coming back" NO WE DONTTTT NO WE DONT
this is very specific to me as an individual but the easiest way I've found of figuring out how much of an ass a doctor is going to be is just to watch their reaction when they take my vitals. how surprised are they by a fat dude having like, textbook-perfect blood pressure, heart rate, and blood oxygenation? if they make a big deal of the numbers being good or look at the sphygmomanometer like it needs maintenance I steel myself for 15 minutes of bullshit. if they just say something blandly positive and move on, I let my guard down by 17œ percent.
Thereâs also a secret third type of like, the briefest blink and you miss it micro-expression of surprise followed by bland neutral or bland positive response. These can be amusing once or twice, but quickly become tiring as its clear they are operating under the same beliefs as the out and out assholes but have learned to be more subtle and passive aggressive about it, which is double bad as a multi-disabled autistic person navigating medical appointments.
Iâd actually prefer a direct asshole as at least then I can go âoh I need to find a different doctorâ immediately instead of dealing with mind games.
