mphfpc main series book ranked by Amount of Boats**
(+ a totally arbitrary 1-10 system) aka the only mphfpc ranking that matters
**and nothing else!!!!! not (at least consciously) affected by my own personal ranking of the books in terms of quality
6. a map of days - boats mentioned twice as going past (promising) on the bay but then boats only mentioned so jacob can tell us his family never owned a boat?? very boat-negative, thumbs down emoji. amod is also the only book in the whole series wherein they never even go on a boat, theyāre just driving a car for most of it. wtf riggs. 0/10.
5. the conference of the birds - jacob and noor DO get in a boat in this one from devils acre to mainland and then back again. but 1) they got some random guy driving it and not my lovely sharon (which, i understand heās busy, but riggs shouldāve just put him in anyway. for me. cus fuck making it make sense, when has he ever written anything that made sense?Ā /lhj) and 2) the scene is very short and especially on the way back, cus theyāre in a rush. booooo!!!! 4/10
4. hollow city - starts with them all on a boat!!!!!! which is wayy more plot relevant than the cotb boat scene and a lot longer. boat gets absolutely fucked though and then they never get on one for the remainder of the book, so. there is a reference to a cool āold looking shipā with āgiant complicated sailsā going past in the menagerie loop, which is ok. 6/10Ā
3. library of souls - jake and emma go to steal a boat because the wights kidnapped their friends and took them on a boat and then end up on known boat lover sharonās boat for, quite a while. (although, they do break it:( and then they never pay for the damages. smh.) and then again when jake wants to go home. extra points NOT because iām bias cus los is my fav book in the series (and also. ever), but because it introduces both:
devils acre, which is famously an island, and therefore relies on the existence of boats to exist
and sharon, who is famously a boatman. a man of boats. (and also i love him).Ā
2. the desolations of devils acre - probably interchangeable spotwise with library. boats / the docks first mentioned in passing during the first fight with the visible hollow but itās not really relevant to the actual fight. HOWEVER. extra good boat content later on with the speedboat and ESPECIALLLLYYY the wights absolutely deliciously campy cruiseship. and then jacobās parents say theyāre going to get a boat at the end:) character development:) - 8/10
1. miss peregrines home for peculiar children - jakeās uncle talking at jake about his boat at the start. jake and his father get on a ferry to cairnholm. jake and emma go to her little shipwreck. boats mentioned in passing more times than i can reference (but for an example: the fisherman ālamenting the difficulty of plying his trade during wartimeā because of all the damn u-boats!!!). they fight golan on da ship. the book ends with them all on the little rowboat and the picture of it. yeah, absolute cinema - 10/10
