Guys,

to be completely honest, I’m lowkey terrified of asking you (the absolute fandom rockstars) about the characters' ages👁👄👁, especially after the news that Alma is no longer the eldest sibling by the author's decree. Because back when I read the books, I did it without Tumblr, livestreams, or interviews with the author—I didn't even know what any of that was 🐣—and relied solely on the text and my own headcanons.

Here’s why I'm bringing this up: I've been asked why Millard is the same age as Horace and Enoch in my works🤸‍♀️. It was only after seeing your posts and ships regarding him that I realized we have completely different perceptions of his character. I used to think he was about 12 or 13, not only because he hangs out and goofs around with Horace and Enoch, but also because he is almost always naked—which is something you can only barely turn a blind eye to if you assume he's in his early teens (10–14 years old).

Secondly, I thought it was a classic literary trope: a 12-year-old acting like a mini-scientist, speaking in fancy words, keeping logs in a notebook... basically, Ransom Riggs' own version of Sheldon Cooper👶👓. To sum it up, I'd really like to stay in my bubble of first-read nostalgia, just like I did with Miss P, and keep him in the trio with H and E. It's a bit late to share this, of course, after all my videos and art, but I figured some of you might have had this question🥴.

Yes, in the Future AU, she and Isabella are 20 years older. They’re in their 50s now and are currently in their traveling and vacation era. All the kids have grown up and settled down, and after surviving the war, the idea of finally living for herself was always lingering in Alma's mind. Of course, she didn't agree to it right away and continued to carry out her duties for another 5–6 years (my AU is set after the first 3 books, not touching upon the subsequent ones) until Isabella arrived, put an end to her beloved friend's doubts, and whisked her away to the sea. You're so right, I'm definitely planning to draw them✨
