A broke girl's guide on actually investing in yourself

Education THAT MATTERS. In your daily life. Education is an investment on the condition you are using it. Learning how to do your hair and nails at home is more usable than an engineering degree unless you're actively using that degree in your life. Education you actually need. Nutrition. Basics of home economics. How to mend your clothes so you don't throw them out the moment a seam is off. How to do your laundry by fabric so your clothes last longer. Easy recipe hyper healthy meals. Education you ACTUALLY use.

Long- term one time things. Hairstyle that you'll get once per month and have it carry you through. Nails that will last for a month plus while allowing you to be fully functional in life. Deep cleaning once per month if it's doable. Once in a month things that will save time and anxiety in a long term basis. If a perm will carry you for half a year get it (without damaging your hair). If hiring people to deep clean around your home once in two months will keep it clean do it. If meal prepping wills Ave you two weeks worth of cooking just do that. Increasing convenience and decreasing anxiety while keeping functionality being the goal.

Being easy to impress and hard to piss off is how you keep most relationships actually. For most people unless you're actively fighting you're friends to a degree and even if they don't look out for you they will not go out of their way to sabotage you. Smile easily and keep your opinions to yourself, your politics personal and be hard to piss off.

Quality>> quantity. It can be Ralph Lauren if you want (can you tell I am a Lauren girl) but if it's poor quality it will wear out easily and you'll have paid for air like some idiot. If you don't know how to check for quality there's TONS of people on YouTube and Reddit that would love to educate you. My second hand refurbished laptop I bought in highschool somehow outlasted my new one I bought in Uni trust me on this. Applies to appliances, clothes, everything actually. Check for quality so you're not paying for air like some idiot and so corporate executives arent laughing about you. This also applies to say, eating out. It could be a thousand star but if the food sucks and the service is bad go back to your small business cafe that smiles at you and gives you food you actually like.

If you work outside, some form of transport is a long term investment. A motorbike a scooter a bicycle a skateboard skate shoes idk. Just get one. Because public transportation in some countries is so shitty the person next to you didn't shower and chews loudly and is watching tiktoks on speaker it ruins your whole day and some creep is looking up your legs just get an electric motorbike or something and pay for express road (in my home country you have to pay but it's cheap) and buy your peace.

Premium of apps you need. I have premium (one time purchase) for my favorite reading because it has an audiobook version and allows me to use other apps while still listening ( ReadEra) and an app blocker (Stay focused) that's yearly pay like 5$ where I am that makes sure I will not fall back on my promises to myself and is uninstall safe and edit safe so Id have to buy a new phone or something. Whatever apps you need to pay for are an investment.

Headphones so people don't try start conversations with you TRUST me on this one.

In my books only Contemporary Behavioral Therapy is therapy that matters and everyone should get it.

Health and nutrition. Supplements you need is an investment getting blood work paneling is an investment getting screenings is an investment getting healthy meals is an investment health is an investment.

Misandry is an investment against your only predators (men). Radical Feminist (ideology) is an investment into individualism and not being a coward (like choice feminists)

Public persona. Investing into an easy to profile public persona. She's religious she's active and into fitness she's quiet yet charismatic she's funny etc are investments. Especially if you want a public career.

How to Prioritize Yourself

(in other words, how to put yourself 1st)

1. Before making a decision, ask yourself, “Is this beneficial for me?”

2. Second ask yourself, “Do I want to do this? If so why?” Make sure that whatever you do is serving your best interests.

3. Always take care of your needs. Treat yourself like you would your child. Maintain your basic hygiene. Make sure you've eaten and drank water. Keep up with your skin care. Give yourself compliments and support your dreams. Be financially stable and provide security for yourself. Give yourself everything you desire.

4. Don’t rush or let others push you into doing something you don’t want to.

5. Put your standards on the pedestal. Form your own judgement about things and don’t be persuaded easily.

6. Do what you set your mind to regardless of opposition.

7. Always be in tune with what you desire and never compromise your standards.

8. Fill your own cup first. Invest in yourself.

9. Set clear boundaries and start saying no when you mean it.

10. Release all shame surrounding your self prioritization. Understand, people won’t care about your wellbeing. You have to be the one looking out for you.

11. Gate-keep yourself from those undeserving of your love and energy.

12. Don't tell all your business. Move in silence and cherish your privacy.

13. Stay self-sufficient.

how to build bridges and make meaningful connections ❀•°❀

for the girlies who want more than just superficial relationships

1. be the kind of energy that people want to stay around

be light, not draining. bring warmth, humor, and softness where you can. I always try to smile at people when I talk to them or see them, and people notice how I'm happy to hang out with them. just bringing a positive energy immediately draws people towards you.

try not to complain. everybody has struggles, and while venting can feel natural, it can also quietly drain the energy from conversations and people listening. personally, I struggle with this too. but, when we constantly focus on what's wrong, we unknowingly push people away. no one wants to feel like every conversation is a weight to carry.

instead, try adding something lighter or more meaningful. instead of saying, "I'm so stressed," try "this week is super busy, but I'm making time for a break soon." it's not about pretending that life's perfect, but being mindful of the energy you bring to a space.

show up with consistency. make plans for lunch and actually show up. remember small things that they say in conversations. it's always the greatest feeling when someone remembers that I had an important performance or difficult test and then ask me about it afterwards.

2. connect through conversation

make eye contact. it's uncomfortable, I get it. but, when you look someone in the eye while they're talking to you, it makes you look 1) more engaged about what they're saying, and 2) more genuinely appreciative of their presence. practice doing it little by little every day, and soon, it will become like second-nature.

share stories, not just facts. I think that conversations come alive with small stories with details that make moments memorable. for example, instead of just saying “I had a phone as a kid because I was on the soccer team” (fact), i added layers: “I got a phone because I went to soccer matches as a kid! I was terrible at soccer, but I helped the team by tricking opponents into thinking I’d get the ball. basically, I was a glorified decoy” (story). true story, by the way.

3. acknowledge them, even if you are not actively hanging out.

greet them by name. when you see them while walking, make an effort to remember their name and say hi. I feel that greetings come off as much more genuine when I address them personally.

if you don't know their name, still make an effort to smile and wave. I would still appreciate it if someone takes the time to acknowledge me, even for a little moment, because it shows that they care.

4. embrace compliments and connection

take compliments. I'll be the first to admit, I struggle with this too. but, isn't it a bit awkward when you give someone a compliment and they instantly deflect it with "oh but I look so ugly today like my hair is whack and my eyeliner is uneven" (calling myself out...)? instead, I think it's best to thank them genuinely for noticing you, even if you don't fully agree with their compliment. receive it with gratitude, not self-criticism. it's not about actually being perfect, but appreciating the kindness behind their words.

compliment them back, and be observant about it. you could just say, "you look amazing too" (though that's still nice). but, the next step could be noticing something specific, like their earrings or the way they carry themselves. or, share what you actually admire about them, like their kindness or determination. it's about making your compliment feel personal and thoughtful.

if you admire someone, tell them. it only sounds fake if you make it fake.
