it always strikes me as so interesting the way that when akutagawa went to see dazai after he’d been taken hostage by the port mafia he decided to act like he hated dazai and wanted to kill him himself. because we know he fucking doesn’t. even if he hates the fact that he doesn’t hate dazai, he loves dazai. in a twisted, fucked up, abused/grooming victim/stockholm syndrome way, he idolises dazai, and he tried really hard to hide that fact from dazai even while knowing dazai was smart enough to see through that bullshit. and it makes me think of the cycle of abuse; the way it filtered down through mori to dazai and dazai to akutagawa and akutagawa to kyoka. like, akutagawa was definitely around long enough to see how much dazai hates mori. probably recognises the similarities in mori’s relationship with dazai and dazai’s with himself.

i like the idea of akutagawa pretending to hate dazai specifically because he’s watched dazai hate mori for years and he’s just copying the man he loves. he thinks that’s what will make dazai proud; if he stops idolising dazai and turns against him like dazai did to his abuser. and yet he can’t quite pull it off, so he’s just constantly stuck chasing after dazai’s affection while probably hating himself because he knows for a fact the thing stopping him from gaining that affection is the fact that he clearly likes it in the first place.

i really do like the dynamic of pm!dazai as like. the grumpy old sick relative that the locals silently take care of. mori brings sandwiches to executive meetings and silently slides them across to dazai to make him eat. chuuya carries extra gloves and a scarf during winter bcs he knows dazai will get cold and he knows dazai wont bring anything to fix that. akutagawa remembers that dazai needs to take his meds more than dazai does. hirotsu instinctively holds dazai by the elbow when they walk next to each other so he can pull dazai out of the way of walls and other obstacles bcs dazai is always either playing a game or scheming to deeply to think about where he’s actually walking. kouyou remembers his allergies and stops him from ordering shit that might close up his throat bcs dazai doesnt give a shit. oda and ango take care of him when he’s drunk.

i just like the concept of the ada thinking dazai is a fucking moron who constantly gets into trouble/cant take care of himself and then they have to watch in complete bafflement as after the truce with the pm they watch all these little ‘keep dazai functioning’ habits come to light through the pm members and they realise ah. no wonder he never does this shit himself.
