My bathroom altar to Aphrodite. The votive holders are heart shaped and the candles smell of roses, the bowl is shell shaped and filled with sea glass, shells and “pearls” (a little poor for the real thing) and the shell is for offerings. everything, besides the statue, was sorced from discount stores/thrift stores and I think it is beautiful and worthy of her! I think I spent $20 on everything and $45 on the statue. So for the most part pretty thrifty, and like my main altar she is also set up on a little shelf I also got from Ross. This shrine means a lot to me, hopefully ill be able to post about my relationship with Aphrodite soon (I’m on mobile now, posting from work so not sure I want to write a long emotional piece right now)

“Smoldering Star” Spell

A spell to attract positive energies and hope into one’s life.

What You’ll Need

“The Star” tarot card

A white candle

Moth Wings (or dried jasmine if you wish for a vegan alternative)

The Moth Witch’s Powder (Basically a mix of ground sage and Himalayan pink salt but the pink salt can be replaced with any kind of salt if you don’t have it.)

Snow Water

**When collecting the moth wings, make sure to take from an already dead moth. The spell will not work if you kill a moth for this spell, and I, Mothma'am, will be very, very upset with you.**

What To Do

Draw a circle large enough for you to sit in with the powder.

Place your candle in the middle of that circle and light it.

Put some snow water on your fingers and flick that water into the candle’s flame and inside the circle.

Now, take your moth wings (or jasmine) and burn them in the candle while saying/thinking “As they burn the hope & positive energies come here, here to cleanse and help me through the years.” till the wings (or aloe) become ashes.

Take the ashes, lightly sprinkle them onto the Star card (Make sure the card is facing star side and not inverted.) say/think “And oh Star, grant me hope. So may it be.”

To finish, blow out the candle and dispose of any waste properly.

A spell for a deep, restful sleep. Combination of altum (deep, sea) and sopor (sleep).

To process your thoughts and ideas through dreams and sleep. Combination of somnio (dream, ramble) and ordino (arrange, sort, organize).

To encourage lucid dreaming. Combination of unda (flow) and animus (mind).

To have good dreams. Combination of lenis (smooth, gentle, calm) and somnium (sleep, dream).

Alternatives to “Blessed be”

Not every witch is comfortable with the phrase “blessed be” being used towards them for a number of reasons, the most common ones being that they don’t wish to have your specific deity’s attention drawn towards them, and they’re not following the same religion as you or even a religion at all. It’s a polite thing to avoid doing in general, but especially if the other person has voiced their discomfort with it. Instead you can use:

2 parts Cayenne Pepper 1 part Cinnamon 1 part Black Salt (equal parts salt and powdered charcoal) ½ part Black Pepper ½ part Powdered Eggshell

Shake it up, sprinkle it where you don’t want things coming in, pitch it in the corners to weed things out, toss a little on your doorsteps to keep the nasties from coming back.

Tips For Subtle Witchcraft

There are plenty of places & times when you may feel that openly being a witch will negatively affect your quality of life. Whether that be because of a hostile work environment, living with roommates who may not appreciate altars and spellwork, or something else.

For witches who can’t afford to have physical representations of their work / beliefs, here are a few tips:

🌰 Paint a sigil for beauty on your face with foundation before blending it into your skin.

🌰 Stir a sigil or your intention into a cup of coffee and drink to experience the results.

🌰 Charge water in a windowsill and use for anointing candles, doorways, or cleansing spaces by sprinkling a few drops.

🌰 Research popular folk beliefs / superstitions that you can co-opt into spells - think sprinkling some salt.

🌰 Learn to read playing cards - folks will assume you’re playing some kind of elaborate solo game.

🌰 Make use of meditation as a time to practice and ground.

🌰 Go out into nature and make use of your time with the wise old trees and friendly squirrels.

🌰 Explore kitchen witchery and herblore as mundane-friendly practice methods.

🌰 Use art as a mode of practicing. Paint sigils into your work, create images in place of an altar, and draw your intentions into being.

Don’t forget that you don’t need fancy tools, or physical objects to witch. You just need focus and a healthy dose of creativity.

DON’T FUCKING STEAL FROM A WITCH Hex.

So it’s come to my attention that a certain unpleasant individual stole from my baby brother a spell bracelet I made for him exclusively, and, well, I’m quite suitably pissed at the insolence and show of incredibly poor tact.

Ingredients: + Fire salt + Pen + Toilet paper to write the taglock name on cause they’re a piece of shit + Anger. + A chalice or some form of water holder is good, as well as a fire proof surface, cause even if you’re pissed you need to keep in mind fire safety folks.)

This is my set up; 

I tried to make a bundle out of the toilet paper to have the fire salts in, but the strip was too thin so I satisfied myself by surrounding it with fire salt instead.

I also made up a little chant to go with it;

Little fool, don’t you see You have stolen what belongs to me ~insert tag lock name~ For what you have done, From my burning retribution, you cannot run.

And this is what the aftermath looks like.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

+ Fire salt and toilet paper forms a lot of smoke pretty damn fast, so I’d recommend doing this spell outside or in a very well ventilated room.   + If like me you didn’t know or take that into account, you can add the part where you’re coughing so much from the smoke that you almost throw up to the spell - ‘as I choke so will you’ kind of thing. + Don’t be afraid to douse the spell if the smoke gets too much for you, like I did. Just tie it in to the spell as well. + I’d also recommend burning incense afterwards and cleansing your candle if like me you only have one goddamn candle that would fit into your burning apparatus.
