Have you always wanted to learn how to code? Here’s your chance to start!
English Otome Games has partnered with Pretty Smart Games to hold a giveaway for five digital copies of their recently released visual novel Code Romantic!
“Code Romantic is a computer science puzzle game wrapped in a post-apocalyptic love story. Join the Human Defense Department’s last ditch effort to save the world: by teaching the brightest students in the nation how to hack into the brains of the sentient machines. Follow the journey of Mina Lovelace as she proves herself worthy of following in her mother’s footsteps… and also tries not to embarrass herself in front of Leon, her childhood crush, in the process! Code Romantic teaches C# programming and computer science concepts. The educational content is based on the AP Computer Science exam and the curriculum of a college-level Computer Science I course. If you like visual novels, problem solving, political intrigue and love stories, you’ll enjoy Code Romantic!”
In order to enter the giveaway, simply reblog this post! If you win, you’ll be able to receive a copy of the game through Steam.
The contest will run until August 20th, 2020 at 10PM EST. I will pick five random entries at that time. Good luck!!
Night View of Saruwaka-machi (no. 90 from the series One Hundred Famous Views of Edo), Hiroshige, 1857
The use of negative space, the shadows in the moonlight (?) -- so cool!
Winter’s Trumpet Giveaway!
Rules
Pretty simple, just reblog this post. Once the giveaway is over, I’ll give away a Steam key for Winter’s Trumpet to a random reblogger. If we get over 100 reblogs, I’ll give away 2 steam keys.
Giveaway ends July 21st.
The Story
Winter’s Trumpet is a short point’n’click love story set against the backdrop of a 1918-inspired epidemic.
Tetrine Reish is staying at a boarding house when the Tarsian flu epidemic sweeps across the continent. She finds herself quarantined, stealing secret moments with her suitor, Marcus, while her sociable roommate, Rosemary, is going out her mind with boredom. Rosemary disapproves of the mysterious Marcus. For one, he is always encouraging the flagrant disregard of quarantine… then again, 'Marcus’ may have a secret or two.
Meanwhile, the immortal demoness, Kalevel Venhera, is looking for someone that possesses a special Sight, a sort of magic-user called a scrivener, and after centuries she thinks she’s found one… only, things don’t turn out the way she expects…

The Empress of Aeser (Announcement Trailer) Hi all. Nearly done with the demo so posting an announcement trailer. The Empress of Aeser takes place shortly after the events of Tell a Demon and six months after the events of Asher. Like the other two stories, it features visual novel style story branching, but is also a point and click. So you can now explore and look around the world.
In the Empress of Aeser, Tetrine learns that Kalevel has gone missing, but also that the mysterious world of Aeser might also be in jeopardy as the magic that holds the world together is beginning to weaken, or so the elusive demon Markaius claims. Everywhere Tetrine turns, things seem to center around the immortal Empress. Despite that she has been dead for a hundred years, she still casts a long Shadow, and she never planned to die…
The second act of WW1-era otome visual novel Because We’re Here is out now!
Click here to [BUY IT ON ITCH.IO] or click here to [BUY IT ON STEAM]!
(Itch purchases come with Steam keys, and the site is much more small-developer-friendly, so please consider buying it there!)
Because We’re Here ~Act II~ follows Elfriede through the next few months of the First Lassallian War, and a large amount of the story takes place in the trenches this time around. Against the backdrop of an upcoming spring offensive, she meets several new characters (many of whom are from ‘enemy’ nations) and struggles with the emotional fallout of Act I’s events.
I hope you enjoy it. A lot of love and care and dedication and anxiety has gone into Act II! It’s full of twists and turns, and it’s the longest act by far at 220k words~
REMINDER: Act I is also 45% off at the moment on [Itch.io] and [Steam]! What better time to dive into the First Lassallian War and get started on this sprawling, narrative-driven trench opera?

Finally done with this last DLC I’ve been wanting to make for quite some time. Dragon Essence is special among my games as the majority of the soundtrack is commissioned. (I normally used royalty-free soundtrack). For this DLC, I compiled all the original soundtrack, including unused tracks, remixes, and no vocal tracks. I also made an 18-pages booklet to compliment it. Hope you like them! (●´ω`●)
P.S: The soundtrack is free for those who currently pledged 5 USD and above in my Patreon.
Hey Everyone!
It has been a while since I have addressed everyone this way!
This is going to be a slightly more lengthy introduction to our next project, “Gilded Shadows” - which has gone through several name changes, so you may have seen me posting about it under a different title.
Gilded Shadows is an otome visual novel that focuses on the story of a main character named Morgan Leone (name customisable).
The setting is expansive, with part of the world following a more solarpunk aesthetic with bright colors while the other part is more of a darker cyberpunkesque situation. The word is tidal locked and the different aesthetics align to the day/night division of the planet (day side is more solarpunk, night side is more cyberpunk).
In the story, the player will be introduced to two main factions they can choose to get involved with -
Endgame, a group dedicated to protecting the citizens of Altair and keeping the peace between different governments and groups across the planet…
And Crimson, a notorious crime family situated on the night side of the planet.
Neither group is entirely what it seems - because where’s the fun in that?
We are currently planning for six love interests - like Changeling. Three guys who are a part of Endgame, two who are part of Crimson, and one who is unaligned.
There are several additional options for love interests and we’ll be looking, down the line, to determine if this is a game we can potentially add content to after release to expand the world and create additional routes.
As we’ve mentioned before, we are planning for the MC to be semi-customisable, allowing the player to pick her name, hair color, skin color, and a selection of personality traits that will open up (or lock up) specific game options and content, as well as affect your standing with different love interests.
This time around, we are planning to include relationship meters that will help the player track how well they’re doing with specific characters, but this does not mean it’s a stat-raising game by any stretch.
Choices will function similarly to Changeling but instead of adding in a “right choice indicator”, we decided to put visible meters that a player can choose to look at (or not look at) while they play.
We’re looking at other ways to make the game slightly more interactive than Changeling, without branching out too much and making something that is too different from our first project.
As far as where the project stands right now:
I have most of the main cast sprites in some stage of completion, the GUI is coded and set up, and all the routes have at least basic synopsis done.
Like Changeling, this game will have a common route where the LI route is chosen toward the end by some choice that will be integrated into the gameplay. (However, I’m trying to make a shorter common route as a whole. Changeling’s is a bit too long I think).
The first chapter of the common route has a rough draft that is fully written (yay! LoL) and the rest is plotted out.
Changeling’s word count goal was 300,000 words and we hit 686,000 total. This time around, I’m setting the goal at 400,000 so we’ll see where things end up! Since, in some ways, my current plans may mean more branching in general, it’s possible the word count will go up, even if the overall play time does not.
At lot of people have asked about Kickstarting and crowdfunding - we just finished up our reward obligations for Changeling and we are definitely planning to Kickstart Gilded Shadows! Due to some of our plans (like MC customization, among others) we are going to need much more help with coding. I’d also really like to include more CGs this time, but that means getting more help with art than we had last time.
And this setting is so huge and beautiful that I want to include a ton of backgrounds!
We’ll be keeping everyone up to date on that but I do not expect the KS to happen before we have at least some semblance of a demo put together. That means finishing at least one more chapter of the common path and completing a couple more sprites that will need to appear.
We’ll be posting more profiles and things in the coming days and I’ll get back into doing regular progress reports like I did for Changeling.
Looking forward to starting another dev journey and I really hope you guys fall in love with Gilded Shadows as a project! See you soon!
I love these comics by Nathan W. Pyle.

Detail from an ancient Egyptian papyrus, depicting a lion playing the board game of senet against a gazelle. The scene is one of multiple satiric vignettes of animals behaving like humans. Artist unknown; ca. 1250-1150 BCE (19th Dynasty, New Kingdom). Now in the British Museum.
