“I don't think this has ever happened before... except maybe Lilith."
“Lilith didn't die when she was sent down here..."
“Should we call Mr. Vox? I think they're kinda... so he might be..."
“Okay, get out of here, you fucking plonkers!" Velvette shouted to all of the present VoxTek personnel. “This is now between the two of us. Shoo!"
“Sorry, Mrs. Velvette," Summer said nervously. “We're going now."
“Is there anything we can do?" Ethan asked. “Maybe get some prena—"
“OUT!" Velvette snapped, using her social media powers to push them, along with Dia, Baxter, and Travis, out of the room.
Dia glared at Summer and said, “Mrs. Velvette? She's not married."
Velvette pinched her brow in frustration, then looked over at Valentino as he began to stir in his couch. They needed to address this, with or without Vox.
Who has been hiding in his room for the past month, so it would be without.
“Val, babes, wake up," Velvette gently urged. Valentino rubbed his eyes and slowly sat up.
“Oh, Velvette," Valentino mumbled. “What are you doing here?"
“Rocky said you passed out in the studio," Velvette replied. “I cleared my schedule to have you checked out."
Valentino groaned. “Fucking Angel. His performance alone was making me nauseous."
“Val, we both know it wasn't Angel," Velvette insisted. “Though I'm not saying you have to apologize to him."
“Wait, are you still on about that?" Valentino asked in annoyance. “I told you, I'm not... Oh, shit."
Valentino noticed and quickly grabbed a bucket from off the floor and held it to his face as he threw up in it.
“Okay," Valentino admitted. “I'm a little nauseous. That doesn't mean anything."
“Last time, you puked in the peonies Melissa got me for my birthday," Velvette reminded him. “You also cried on that bitch Tiffany's shoulder, fell asleep during three shoots this week, and you're scratching your fucking tits right now!"
Valentino looked down and noticed his upper hands lightly scratching his chest.
“First of all, no I'm not," he lied, lowering them. “Second, those peonies your little plant bitch gave you... were actually marigolds."
“Pfft, whatever," Velvette scoffed. “I may not know my flowers, but I know a fucking pregnancy when I see one. But if you won't take my word for it, I had the fish nerd bring me this little contraption."
Velvette then held up a device with a wand attached to it, pressed the end of the wand against his abdomen, which was already caked with gel, and moved it around until...
thump, thump, thump, thump, thump, thump, thump, thump...
Valentino's antenna perked up in shock as he heard the echoes of a tiny heartbeat coming from the machine. He stared at his stomach, amazed by what was hiding in there.
“Believe me now?" Velvette asked. Valentino remained silent. “Uh, Val?"
“I need to talk to Vox," Valentino decided, and got up from the couch.
“Wait, what?" Velvette stammered as he headed for the door. “We can get it done quickly. He doesn't have to know."
“I'm not getting an abortion."
“The fuck? What do you mean, you're not?!" Velvette pondered. “Val, do you know how hard it is to have a baby? You won't be able to smoke."
“I'll chew gum," he stated.
“Your body will be ruined," she added. “Tearing, stretch marks, hemorrhoids, varicose veins... You're gonna get fat."
“I'll be careful," Valentino assured her. “I always am."
“Actually, I should rephrase that," Velvette realized. “Val, if you are going to keep this baby... though I recommend you don't... You'll need to gain extra weight that, y'know, keeps us from seeing your ribs, or it'll come out as either frail or dead."
“How do you know so much about pregnancy anyway?" Valentino wondered.
“I had a college roommate who got herself pregnant," Velvette explained. “She wouldn't shut the fuck up about it until she had to drop out near the end of her third trimester. And I hate that I know what a fucking trimester is!"
“I bet she was the talk of the campus," Valentino chuckled. Velvette nodded.
“Look," she said, “the point is, you'll have to make a lot of sacrifices. Even sleep, unless you hire a night nurse."
“Velvette, it's cute that you care," Valentino admitted, “but I don't know if Vox and I have a future together. I'm keeping this baby so no matter what happens, I'll still have part of him with me at least until the kid turns eighteen. I won't force Vox to do anything, but he'll need to know."
“Damn," Velvette muttered. “You really love him, don't you?"
“So, that's what this is."
Valentino nervously approached the door to Vox's bedroom. Velvette may have had a point about how much of a toll his body would take, and Vox might not even want him at all once they got back together... again. On the other hand, sinners weren't really supposed to be able to conceive. Why now, Val may never know, nor could he ever have this chance again. So, he was doing this.
First thing's first, Valentino checked if the door was unlocked. The loose clicking sound from behind the door handle quickly indicated that it wasn't.
At first, Valentino was taken back by the sound of Vox's voice, which he had not heard in over a month. Then, he gently pushed the open, and immediately felt the urge to throw up upon the stench that greeted him upon entry. He quickly noticed a Chinese takeout box and puked in that.
“Oh, fuck!" Valentino groaned. “Velvette was right. Pregnancy nose is powerful."
“Wait, Val?" Vox called out. Valentino looked up to find him in his desk, quickly surrounding himself with screens to hide himself. “What—Wait, um— What-What are you doing here?"
“Uh, I wanted to tell you something," Val replied, looking around the room to find it completely trashed by various takeout bags and containers. “Damn. No wonder you don't let anyone in here."
“I've been busy," Vox insisted, except the flying toasters on his screens indicated otherwise.
“Were you?" Valentino asked, approaching the desk. “Because last time I checked, I was put in charge after your whole ‘Fuck everything else so long as I get to kill Alastor!' episode."
Vox groaned, then shut off his screens as he pulled his chair further into the desk as if he were hiding something. “What is it you want, Val? And please make it quick. I'm waiting for a delivery."
“Fine, I just won't tell you I'm pregnant," Val huffed bitterly, turning back towards the door.
“Fucking brat," Vox grumbled as he took a sip from a soda cup. It was mostly ice water at this point, but he didn't— Wait. He spit out his drink and coughed. “Wait, what did you say?"
“Forget it," Valentino replied.
“Val, wait! Ow!" Vox shouted in pain. Valentino turned back towards his partner to find him painfully clutching his stomach...
Which, now that he could actually see it, looked quite a bit softer than it did last time they spoke to each other. Vox wasn't wearing his sweater vest, so he could see the buttons of his shirt being strained by his plush belly. The tightness of his slacks clearly showed how his thighs had just begun filling out. Vox's hips were definitely wider and Val swore he could see little moobs beginning to develop.
“Vox, are you alright?" Valentino could not help but ask.
“Fuck how I am," Vox said. “Did you just say what I think you said?"
“That I was put in charge?" Valentino asked. Vox glared at him. “Oh, you mean that I'm pregnant. Yeah, you heard right. And since I never let anyone else use that hole, there's... a chance it's yours."
“But how did this happen?!" Vox asked. “Well, I know how it happened, but Val, sinners can't have children. Sinners shouldn't have children!"
“Well, we're above the average sinners, papi," Valentino pointed out. “We're the two sexiest Overlords in Hell. Well, until I start getting stretch marks and shit."
Vox blinked in surprise. “Wait, you're keeping it?"
“Of course!" Valentino insisted. “It's a piece of you that gets to grow inside me and, unlike the real you, won't try to blow me and Velvette up just because the fucking Radio Demon was there, too!"
Vox winced at the bitter sting in Val's voice upon him bringing the whole “Might of Lilith" incident up.
Valentino took a deep breath, wiped a tear from his eye, and said softly, “Despite all that, you still had the right to know I'm carrying your child, whether you wanted to be involved or not. If not, then..."
“Val, are you crying?" Vox asked. Despite how much Valentino tried to hold them back, more tears began to fall and Vox pulled him down for a hug. “How far along are you?"
“About nine weeks," Val admitted. “I fucking hate it. I can't smoke or drink, my tummy's always cramping, I have to piss every five minutes, and I keep throwing up on accident."
“It... It's okay, babe," Vox assured him, rubbing his partner's back. “You'll get through this. You will."
Valentino pulled away to find Vox staring at him with a tender look in his eyes. Val was not expecting Vox to actually give a shit, so he sobbed even harder and felt his knees buckle. Vox quickly caught him before he could fall on the floor.
“Okay, let's lay you down," Vox chuckled and carried the moth demon to bed. Once Val was tucked in, Vox crawled in next to him and they began to cuddle. Vox then heard a knock on the door and suddenly remembered he had ordered himself dinner from that diner he loved.
“Mister Vox, I have your food," an intern said.
“Uh, bring it over here," Vox said, not caring about the mess, his recent weight gain, or even being in bed with Valentino. The intern just carefully stepped around the trash on the floor and placed the food on the edge of the bed.
“Uh, is there anything else you need?" she asked, then was taken aback by Val dry-heaving. Clearly, his stomach was now empty.
“Uh, you wouldn't happen to know what helps with morning sickness, would you?" Vox wondered.
“Oddly specific," she muttered. “Well, when I was pregnant back on Earth, I always found crackers and ginger tea to give me some relief."
“That'd be great, thanks," Vox replied, not caring about her life story. With that, the intern immediately scurried off and the Media Overlord returned his focus to Val. “See? I got you, baby. I got... both of you."
“You do?" Val whimpered. Vox nodded and gently placed a hand against his partner's flatter stomach. Valentino looked over at the bag and asked, “Aren't you gonna eat that?"
“In a minute," Vox replied. “For now, I just wanna love on you. And... tell you how sorry I am for all the shit I've pulled. I know, I fucked up."
Valentino smiled. “Yeah, you did."
“Val, I'm being serious," Vox said. “I mean, you said nine weeks, right? I did all that a month ago, so you were already pregnant and I still almost—"
“Vox, you didn't know," Val pointed out. “Hell, Velvette was the one who figured it out."
“Yeah, she fucking would," Vox chuckled before his face fell again. “Still... I was so obsessed with the idea of godhood and... him... that I completely ignored you and almost killed you. I have no excuse for that, but I promise I'll spend the rest of my afterlife making up for it."
“Does this mean we're back together?" Valentino asked. “Or, at least, until my body is ruined?"
“No," Vox replied. Val gave him a pained expression. “It means... I want us to stay together. Forever."
Valentino nodded. “I want that, too. I love you, Vox."
Later, once Valentino got his tea and the nausea subsided, Vox decided to share his giant hamburger with his love, knowing Val was going to need the sustenance more than him.
“You sure you won't be hungry later?" Val asked once he finished his half.
“If I am, I'll just let some of this take care of it," Vox assured him, pinching his spare tire.
“Hmm, too bad," Val pouted. “This is a sexy look for you."
“Really?" Vox asked in surprise. In response, Valentino just licked his lips, crawled on top the TV demon, grabbed his meaty upper arms with one pair of hands, and squeezed his squishy ass cheeks with the other pair.
“I want to explore every new curve of this dad bod, papito," Valentino growled. With a smirk, Vox pulled the moth down by the waist, and they quickly entangled themselves in the sheets.
Perhaps, Vox thought, dad bod was the best way to describe it.
