So, I made my first long Furby. Everyone say hi to Cupcakes! Unfortunately, I didn’t own or have access to a Furby buddy, so I went a more unorthodox way, and made a whole Long Furby from scratch, face, ears and all. I went a bit more creative with her eyes (was inspired by some of the kawaii custom Furbies I’ve seen here), and as well, she ended up waaaaaay longer than I expected. Bonus pics of Cupcakes making friends with my Cabbage Patch Audrey (who says Cupcakes gives the best hugs!)

Between the cost of making them and how much it’d cost to ship them I’m afraid I can’t, but I did just post a simple run down of how I made them if you want to look! You can try to build one of your own and improve on what I’ve done here :)

Ok so the inside structure of the furby is two hula hoops that were reduced in diameter to a size that can fit through doors. Holding them together are 3 cut down brook sticks (tape is holding basically everything together here). This is the basic “skeleton” that can be held and keeps things sturdy. From there the structure is cardboard and tape (felt lines the top to stop tape from pulling hair). The faceplace was cut from foamcore and the eyes are each a reduced half of a foam ball and the beak is half of a Christmas bobble. The rest of the faceplace is cardboard and paper mache painted. The sensor bar is where I could see out of, mine was covered in black tights and my roommate chose to leave hers open. (Note inside we both had battery operated fairy lights in case we wanted to see inside). The outside is fur sewn together and the mane is some chunky wool (teased) that was hot glued to a cardboard strip that was in turn glued to the furby back. Ears are done with a short thin rod and felt (I actually had to use old materials from thrift stores because the fabric store sold out of felt), the feet are felt too. There’s bungee cords inside for support over the shoulder. If I ever do this again I will try some new things and have a better support system and hopefully moving parts. Cost of materials comes to about $250 probably more. Took about 2 weeks of working on it after work and on days off.

So we were a fan favourite for the costume contest, but the judges didn’t agree so we didn’t even make the final five but we made the finals in the hearts of the people
