Every night the optics of these massive telescopes are sanctified by the light from billions of stars. Hundreds of these eyes peer deep into the hearts of the sky to find something different, something extraordinary. Night after night. And this thought gets to me, what if, in the pessimistic scenarios of Drake's Equation, we end up as the only species ever existed in this insanely vast universe. Being all alone on a tiny tiny peck of dust. But the very next moment, I know the universe cannot be so tasteless to create just one of us, when the possibilities are infinite. Hovering in the sky at 3 million light-years from home, the Triangulum Galaxy provides a humbling experience to photograph. The thought that the photons captured here were born in the depths of stars millions of years ago puts everything in perspective. Very rarely photographing anything else gives an equally satisfying experience. Not every night of the year one gets to witness a night sky that's filled with so many stars, that the paths in the woods are lit purely by the starlight.
