I was in Discord talking with @witchlightsands and Shellster about the different elf races, especially the Sky elves when we ralised something:

In the introduction, we can see the different elves

And one particular elf stands out

He has wings! He’s probably a sky elf because it would make the most sense for them to be able to fly.

One could argue that the wings are just part of the outfit, but we also see other elves with wings in the background, so they must serve a purpose

It’s really great how the aren’t just the tall, long living creatures like in other media but also have special powers depensing on which type they are!

i love how zym ripped off rayla’s bracelet.. not only is it now a symbol of how she’s different from others, and she doesn’t have to kill ezran, but it was a simple way to introduce how fucking powerful this dragon baby is going to be, and how powerful he already is.

Okay, so Viren is the mage that originally discovered dark magic, and here’s why.

His staff looks like this:

But when he uses it, it changes to look like this:

Which is suspiciously the same exact shape as this guy’s staff, right in the center

So how could he be alive after a thousand years, you ask? Well, let’s look at this scene:

Viren is shown here, completely in the dark throughout the entire scene. Now there’s a reason they would have chosen not to show Virin in the light, likely because there’s something about him they didn’t want us to see.

In this picture, his hair looks suspiciously white almost like an old man’s. And it can’t be the lightning. Viren’s hair is dark brown. Dark hair in dark lighting does not look white. 

After Viren opens his secret butterfly cabinet and this little guy lands on his hand, he says “A volunteer. How eager.” And then they cut to this door to show he’s doing some magic:

And since we all know that dark magic only works by taking the essence of other magical beings, we know that little butterfly is toast, confirmed by this shot:

They then cut to Viren leaving the room, once again, shown in the light:

Looking totally normal. He takes a big breath and has the demeanor of someone looking super refreshed. Why is he refreshed? He just sucked the life out of a magic butterfly to replenish his own. Y’all remember Tangled? Mother Gothel, and how she used Rapunzel’s hair to stay young and healthy for years? That’s exactly what Viren is doing. Viren is the mage who discovered dark magic and has been keeping himself alive for a thousand years through dark magic.
