Today, We Lost a Great Japanese Illustrator

Respected artist Noriyoshi Ohrai died earlier today, reports the Japanese media. You might not know his name, but you should know his work.

He was one of my favorite artists and inspirations.

This evening around 7 p.m., a pickup truck carrying a large sculpture, approximately 10 feet tall, of a black woman with a pregnant belly, fist raised, parked on Art Museum Drive and a group of 10, including artist Pablo Machioli and activist Owen Silverman Andrews, placed it in front of the Lee-Jackson Memorial in Wyman Park Dell. Once the sculpture was propped up, it was unwrapped and flowers and candles were placed at its base and the group took turns writing messages on the base in marker.

Here I come to save the day, and real Hip-Hop is here to stay! This time we have the 90′s classic album “Center of Attention” from he dopene$$ that was known as InI. Rob-O, Grap Luva, Ras G, Marco Polo, DJ Boodakhan, and production by Pete Rock. This album is gold, and just think, it was shelved. The album never saw release and the group disbanded after the company refused to release their music. This still goes down in history as a shining example of the climate during Hip-Hop’s corporate takeover. Take a listen!  LUV & LIGHT

Fantastical, samurai, warrior, justice trinity thing! I think an adventure featuring a version of Superman and friends set in a fantasy driven Edo/early Meiji Japan would be fun. Beyond that I honestly have no idea what this is supposed to be you guys… :/

I drew the first image (the one with the green smoke and them all in profile) back in 2013. I ran across it on my computer and I thought it looked kinda cool so I decided to make prints and take it to Heroescon. I got really great feedback so last week I drew these character designs and illustrations kinda based off the style of the original drawing. :D

Yep, I remember that! :D

Kinda the same but totally different idea. For clarification this is set in a world similar to 19th century Japan not the feudal era, and it would feature heroes stemming from cultures all over the world. For example the character loosely based on Wonder Woman is inspired by Chinese warriors, Perry and Jimmy are English travelers looking for a grand tale, etc, etc. The Batman inspired character is the only samurai, everyone has their own unique abilities. It’s very much an elseworld themed story, a fantasy adventure set in a world inspired by the east!

FlyMac loves good music, and I the most Dubious of the bunch love me some classic hip-hop collaborations. I’m not sure how I missed this news, but thanks to my #1 InfoMama, Mama Shida, I at least got in on the leftovers. Plus Kweli just dropped some dopene$$ yesterday in the form of a 10 track surprise album entitled: Train of Thought: Lost Lyrics, Rare Releases & Beautiful B-Sides Vol. 1 Get into it! :) I’m already there!

Mural Sketches for a bar called Steam Punk Alley in Baltimore, MD. The Owner never paid me a dime for the work, so the final design was never completed. A lesson in professional etiquette and the importance of contracts was my take away. I guess everybody gets caught once. Fool me twice and then it's my problem! #artlessons
