Did y’all miss me????
WOW! I am so sorry it’s taken me this long to write another post, but let me tell you... I HAVE BEEN A BUSY GIRL.
I flew into Portland, Oregon, on Sunday, June 19th. I have not stopped moving since! Except for the very rare moments where I have the privilege of sleeping.
You guys, I have met some of the most incredible people in the last 3 weeks, and I am so blessed to know them. I don’t know if I could have done this without them by my side. Cause shoot, 3 weeks is a long freaking time, and I still have one more week to go!
Speaking of one more week... YOU GUYS I GRADUATE FLIGHT ATTENDANT TRAINING IN 1 WEEK FROM TODAY!!!! I am so stoked.
So, fun fact that not many people know about flight attendants. Our job is absolutely to serve you, and to help you have an enjoyable flight. Absolutely!! BUT, y'all our number one priority is safety. Your safety, our safety, everybodys safety.
Let me break this down for you, ok? I have been in training for 3 weeks. In these three weeks every single day has been 8AM-5PM, training in safety and security. There has been one, and only one day devoted to inflight service.
So if i hear one more person tell me I am a waitress in the sky, it will probably end with them having a much longer conversation with me than they intended, and me educating them on what a flight attendant really does.
YALL I AM TRAINED TO SAVE YOUR LIFE IN THE EVENT OF LITERALLY ANY EMERGENCY IMAGINABLE. ( We weren't specifically trained on this, but seriously, there are directions on how to deliver a baby on the plane if necessary!)
If were Facebook friends, you already know this, but at the beginning of this week we were able to bid for our domiciles (bases). The way it works is by seniority. We determined our class seniority on the first day of class. We all drew number from a barf bag. Out of 39, I drew 17. So not terrible! I was at least positive I wasn’t going to Alaska, and that was the important part.
Anyhow, we learned how many spots were available at each base, and the we turned in our lists of preferences. My first choice was Portland, but there were only 4 available spots in PDX, and if you'll remember.. Was number 17. But, my second choice was Medford, OR. And thats what I received! So at the end of training, I’m packing my bags and heading to Medford.
Ive made so many incredible friends in class. We work for such an incredible company, and they only hire the very best. (Obviously, have you met me?) (kidding) (maybe??) But truly, it’s not hard to see that once you meet our flight attendants, and seriously anyone who works for the Air Group.
Oh man, also, speaking of Air Group, y’all wanna laugh at me?
I filled out an application. I had a FaceTime interview. I had an in person interview. I got the job. I flew to training, and as I was getting of the shuttle at the hotel, I was informed, that I did not work for the company that I had thought I worked for all along. I am not an Alaska Airline Flight Attendant!! I am a Horizon Airlines Flight Attendant!!( AND DANG PROUD TO BE!!)
Alaska Air and Horizon Air are under the same Air Group. We fly many of the same places, and we have a lot of the same branding, but we are a different company. Horizon is like the baby sister company. So imagine my shock when I found that out!
But none the less, I am so stinking proud to work for this company. We are Number 1 in on time performance in the industry. we have won the JD Power award, 9 times in a row y’all. Our service is ALWAYS beyond service. We as employees, we are empowered to make the right decision. To stop and operation if we do not believe it is safe, even if it makes us late. If something is wrong with a customer or their experience, we are empowered to help them and do whatever we feel is necessary for them ( without having to contact a supervisor) and the company will back us 110%.
I could literally go on for hours about how incredible the company I am employed by is, but I can’t because I am exhausted. And I have an Exam in the morning.
Just a final thought, and I will post more soon telling about all of my adventures, but you guys, Ive gotten A’s on every single exam I have taken. That’s never happened in my life. I am working my butt off for this. And I love it!! If that doesn’t tell you i’m doing whet I love, and what I am meant to do, then I don't know what would!!
Until next time, see ya!
Your Friendly Neighborhood Flight Attendant
