DEVI-VERSE LORE DUMP NUMBA 1: LYCANTHROPY
In My Universe lycanthropy is a curse and curses are like Magic Diseases. Lycanthropy is one that only canid people can contract, and it’s spread when the saliva of a transformed lycanthrope gets into the body of a mortal in any way (whether thru a wound or an orifice). Their saliva is what they use to transfer little soul spores that germinate in mortal bodies into Full Souls, which can either be parasitic or symbiotic depending on how competitive it feels like being with the host body’s soul.
The curse itself is highly variable & individualized. Transformation into a bigger, more monstrous guy when a lycanthrope soul takes over its host body is like, the only thing consistent among all lycanthropes. Even then, transformation method, and the degree to which one changes physically/mentally, all depends on the individual. Some lycanthropes are your classic “transforms into a mindless beast under the full moon” type, others are like my character Delirium, etc etc. When not transformed, the host usually exhibits random symptoms of physical/mental illness that they didn’t have before, in a way where no mortal doctor can figure out exactly what’s wrong with them.
The only known ways to cure lycanthropy are to find an occult guy who can do soul magic, have them extract the lycanthrope soul, and either banish it to The Ether or put it in a different vessel. Or, you could find an animavore (‘nother type of Creature in My World) and have it eat the soul.
