summary: yul finally adopts a puppy after whining about how much he wanted one for 700 years (this is nothing special to read lol)
yul had many dreams in life.
many of them he’d achieved - moving out of the unity dorm, releasing his own solo album (twice!), among other things. some of his dreams had been out there, like wanting to be a star who made his mark on the world, but he’d achieved them. there were only a few that he hadn’t. most of the time, it was just simply due to a lack of good timing, like the trip that he’d been wanting to go on forever with his siblings but hadn’t been able to because of his busy schedule. today, however, seemed to be one of the days that one of his dreams would come true.
he’d always wanted a pet. yul loved animals, but he especially loved dogs. he could remember how much he’d desired to have a little companion of his own who he could take out for walks and cuddle and be his best friend when it felt like no one in the world cared about him. unfortunately, the chance to adopt a pet of his own had never come up then, and even after he’d long moved out of his childhood home and even the unity dorm too, he’d been just far too busy. so, when he’d found out that dimensions were off to volunteer in an animal shelter, he couldn’t deny that he was excited for two reasons.
firstly, going to an animal shelter meant getting to play with cute animals, and who wouldn’t be excited about that? and, secondly, maybe there was a chance, even if it was small, that he wouldn’t be going home from the shelter alone.
from the moment he’d arrived, yul was sure that he’d found heaven on earth. his arms simply weren’t big enough to give all the dogs the hugs they deserved, and not enough hands to give them all the pats they had so rightfully earned either. if there was any good way to go, being swamped by over-excited dogs who wanted to play would be yul’s choice. there were so many lovely animals and yul was sure that they would be finding the perfect home for them in no time.
out of all the dogs, however, there was one that stood out. whilst the other dogs went from person to person in search of treats or pats, the small doberman puppy stayed by yul’s side, seemingly more content to sleep on his lap and let him give her belly rubs than do anything else. even when yul got up to help the shelter staff and focus on the other animals, she was never too far away. trying to encourage her to play with the other idols didn’t do much either.
maybe this is what it feels like to be loved unconditionally, yul thought to himself as he held the puppy in his arms. he’d done nothing to receive such adoration but here he was, being trusted by this small creature to hold her whilst she slept. she was so lovely, so pretty, and yul knew then that he wouldn’t be able to have a clear conscience if he didn’t bring her home with him.
so, that’s exactly what he did.
it was far too impulsive of a decision and he’d have to make do with makeshift pet bowls and the stuff the shelter had given him until the dog stuff he’d ordered arrived the next day. still, it had been more than worth it seeing the puppy getting herself comfortable on the couch, sprawled out as if she knew that she was now home - which she was, and yul loved her so much already. yul sat down next to her, changed into his pyjamas and ready for bed, before pressing a soft little kiss to the top of her head.
