lf to leave he took the silence on the other end of the message as confirmation of the plans. It seemed like a Sunggyu type of thing to do - not reply to a message and just hope his answer would be interpreted. Either way Woohyun left his apartment with a pat to his puppies head, assuring her he wouldnât be out too long, then heading downstairs to the elders apartment.
The hallway was the same as the one on his floor, the door the same besides the number on it. Lifting his hand he rapped his knuckles against the door, shifting his weight from one foot to the other as he waited. Again he wondered why he was bothering - sure he talked to Sunggyu when he came into the hospital, but other than that theyâd never talked outside of work.
Sunggyu was annoying, that was for sure, and not Woohyun first choice of friend material. But Woohyun knew enough about him to know that there must be more to him than alcohol, at least he somewhat hoped there was.
The sound of knuckles hitting the door altered Sunggyu of his guest arriving, and also alerted Fluffy; who scurried her way from her little bed to the door. A snort left Sunggyuâs lips as he followed after the black fluff ball, and quickly leaned down to sweep her off her paws before opening the door. âShe was excited.â He explained his reason for holder the kitten In his arms. The little thing let out a small âmewâ before reaching out to get ahold of Woohyun. Sunggyu smiled slightly at this, the little thing had a weird liking towards the god of Death â which was a bit hilarious.
âCome on then, make yourself at home and Iâll get some glasses out. What kind of drink are you in the mood for? Iâve got a bit of a selection.â
Turning on his heel, he allowed the other to let himself in before setting Fluffykins down on her paws again. The kitten of course trotted over towards Woohyun while Sunggyu made about bringing the pretty drinking glasses out into the living room. Setting them down, he also went about bringing out the Vodka, Rum, and other assorted drinks â âNo need to really prepare wine, you know.â He joked, tapping the pitcher of water also on the table.
âKind of a waste to spend money on something that comes to me freely.â
His poor attempt at joking caused Sunggyu to laugh; both at himself and the joke. He wasnât sure if Woohyun would find it amusing as he â but it was worth a shot.
âSo,â he began as he took a seat on the chair opposite of the couch where the other was, âWhat should we talk about? Work, social life â how are the romantics of one who cuts up corpses? I shouldnât really be talking actually. I havenât had a date inâŠTen years? Yeah, about that.â
No shame in loving yourself more than others â or loving your cat more than others.

Grabbing his phone from the coffee table he sent the elder a message, asking him if they should just stay at Sunggyuâs apartment, as the weather outside seemed to contradict the fact that it was summer - clouds clinging to the sky and leaving the world beneath shrouded in grey. Rain was imminent - he was sure of it.
Leaning against the wall beside the window in his living room he gazed out over the street below, wondering just how the evening would go, and if heâd find anything out about Sunggyu that was really worth knowing. At this point in time he seemed nothing but an annoying drunk - Woohyun just hoped there was more underneath to keep him entertained through the next few hours.
After replying to the text he had received telling the other to just meet him at Sunggyuâs own apartment, he made way towards the living room and closed the curtains and turned on the light â it was a naturally dim light, because Sunggyu hated having bright lights In the house due to him never knowing when he would be hungover. Sunggyu also moved to grab Fluffy and put her in the little bed he had bought her in the corner of the room, getting her all comfy and secure and content. He smiles slightly as she nuzzled his hand and let out a small sigh â âToo cute,â he mused, before standing up and cleaning out a few glasses for the liquor.
Sunggyu wasnât sure what the evening would bring, but whatever it was â it was an excuse to drink. Not that he needed one, but it was fun to say that there was an occasion.

The closer she got, the more certain she became that she actually knew this person, however, and a small smile had already made its way onto her lips when finally she chose to address them. âSunggyu, hey,â she greeted her colleague with a quick wave of her hand; entirely casual and relaxed. âWhat brings you here?â While her hands were idly tightening the ponytail she wore her hair in, her gaze drifted around the vastly empty street, occasionally landing on one odd object or another that someone had either lost or thrown away on purpose, yet there was nothing that looked like it was of any worth. âAre you looking for something?â, she decided to ask therefore as she let her hands drop again, head tilted to the side in mild curiosity, which was further underlined by the raise of her eyebrows.
âAnd can I help?â It was added more as an afterthought, solely to make sure he knew that she wasnât just asking to make fun of him or anything equally discourteous â because things like that were no rarity in Fantasia.
A light voice sounding out behind him caused Sunggyu to halt his search for a moment and turn around; he came face to face with Suji - one of the rookie officers that heâs worked with ... maybe three times before. Her words helped shine light on his rather damper situation, and he gave a nod. âActually,â he laughed a bit awkwardly - âMy kitten is missing.â
It was such an out of place thing for him to say, he wasnât even sure if anyone else at the station knew he had a cat. Sunggyu was known for not even taking care of himself; and yet he put himself responsible for another living being; and a baby one at that. Not wanting to wait for the scolding he would probably receive, Sunggyu continued on.
âSheâs small and black, pure black. Her name is Fluffy and sheâs very small. I had left the front door open for not even five minutes; and she just disappeared. I searched the entire apartment building and still canât find her... If sheâs outside, Iâm sure we donât have long before something horrible happens.â
Honestly, Sunggyu wouldnât forgive himself if the poor kitten got hurt. It was his own fault after all - he had no one else to blame for the situation at hand.Â

The woman grumbled for a bit â now considerably more calm in demeanour, thanks to Naeun â and took the man with her away from the scene, leaving the young brunette with the seemingly drunk man, her dark eyes unblinkingly trained at him. At his clouded eyes and undoubtedly loose lips, Son Naeun decided â from the goodness of her heart, really â to step closer to him, speaking in her usual soft (honestly non-judgemental) voice. âDid you really try to hit on a woman so obviously in a relationship?âÂ
âOh, I wasnât hitting on her.â She really wasnât his type at all. Too short, face too plain - her hair wasnât the right length and her attitude was a really big turn off.Â
The words flew from his lips as he processed his current situation, the women before him who so kindly got him out of a rather uncomfortable situation, seemed to have the wrong idea -Â âI was only telling them how their relationship was nearing itâs end with how much they lacked proper communication.â
Sunggyuâs hand moved to his fridge, pushing back the dark strands as he gazed down towards the women. âShe wasnât even that pretty actually,â he muttered as an after thought. His form shuddered at the chilled air of the night, irritation bubbling at himself for not wearing another sweater that day.Â
âI appreciate your intervention,â he spoke after a moment, âMy mouth didnât follow my brain...which lead to me speaking my mind rather than filtering my choice of words. Itâs actually a horrible habit I have when intoxicated. With every pro is a con ya know?â Of course he was given this great knowledge and brain power, yet no real control of his motor actions or sharp tongue. At least the ability to turn water to wine made up for his insensitive ways - for the most part.Â

âGod, what the fuck was that.â Exasperation dripped from his words as his hands lifted to card through his thick locks, tousling his hair, then slapping his hands down against the papers on his desk weakly, slumping into his swivel chair. That evening could either be a complete disastrous, awkward mess, or they could finally manage to get past the stagnant water in their relationship and figure out what type of friends they were, if they were even that.
After stopping toward the office to drop off the case file, Sunggyu hurried along with his errands and even bought some less cheat liquor for the night. It was a bit weird when he came up to the check-out counter with cat food, cat litter, and about three cases of rum, vodka, and soju. The elder women seemed to only look at him weirdly for a moment before he flashed a grin and paid for his items. The drive home was a little awkward as well; as traffic was a little too good that day â which was weird because usually it was kinda horrible. It wasnât bad that there wasnât any traffic, it was just weird.
Once he was at home, Sunggyu went about feeding Fluffy ( who was sleeping on his bed ) and cleaning up his apartment a bit. He wasnât sure if Woohyun wanted to go out and drink or just go to Sunggyuâs place; it would be smarter if he chose the latter â as Sunggyu would be able to see that Woohyun would safely get home if he ended up shit faced.
Glancing at the time, Sunggyu figured he had enough time for a quick shower; which was good. He hadnât had a proper one in a day or two. After showering, he dressed casually â a pair of black jeans and his gray high neck sweater.
He even combed his hair.
By the time he finished getting ready, it was nearing seven in the afternoon â the sun was disappearing and night was approaching. Sunggyu shuffled his way over towards the kitchen and grabbed a glass before filling it up with water from the tap. Raising the cup to his lips, the liquid slowly turned to wine and the sweet taste hit his tongue; sending a wave of pleasure down his spine. A sigh left him soon after, shoulders relaxing. Hopefully the night wouldnât prove to be too awkward â worst comes to it; Woohyun could just go home.

( ... )
âYeah, yeah. I got it; hold back on detail.â With a wave of his hand he turned to his desk and began to straighten the papers, keeping his eyes off the taller man to rid the awkwardness now ten times worse clinging to the air around them. It was as Sunggyu spoke for what should be the last time in their meeting, Woohyun lifted his head and opened his mouth to speak. For a moment nothing came out and he simply stood there, lips parted in an expression he assumed must be far less than attractive, not that he cared all that much, before he managed to speak. âHey, dâyou..uh..â He stumbled over the words jumbling in his head, trying to find the least uncomfortable way to say what he wanted to say.
âDâyou maybe wanna⊠get together for a drink..after work?â Â
The air between them was ⊠hard to breathe. It was a situation that the two of them had been through many times before, their meetings rather fleeting and their conversations casual and stiff. He didnât expect though, was that Woohyun brought up the notion of drinks after work. He actually had to double take a moment, and squint his eyes at the other before he tilted his head â it seemed the other was being sincere, he seemed a bit âŠnervous to bring it up? He realized then that the two of them hadnât been around each other more than twenty minutes at a time in the entire year that the two of them had known each other. A bit pathetic, really.
âUh, sure.â
Heâd have to do a few errands beforehand, and clean-up of course â by clean-up he means wash his face and change his sweater out for a cleaner one. Sunggyu reached over to Woohyunâs desk for a moment before jotting down his phone number, âJust um, text me when youâre ready and we can meet up someplace.â He muttered out before clicking his tongue and setting the pen down. It dawned on him then that they hadnât even exchanged numbers yet. For someone Sunggyu considered to be a âfriendâ, their friendship was a little lacking.
There wasnât much else to say, so with a mock salute, Sunggyu turned on his heel and left the room with the folders in hand and swiftly made his way out of the hospital and to his car ( yes, who in their right  mind let the alcoholic drive ). Once inside, he leaned back against the driverâs seat and grabbed his water bottle, before taking a long swig; the water turned to wine as soon as it hit his tongue and all was right in the world again.
âThat was fucking awkward,â he muttered to himself. He just hoped that the evening wasnât as horrible as those past fifteen minutes were. He doesnât know if he could handle it, his entire brain might deflate from the awkwardness.

âAll the pictures and write-ups are here. Hope itâs what you need so I donât have to see your face for a while again.â He was somewhat joking - Sunggyu might be a massive annoyance with his stupid âtaller than youâ stance, and excessive drinking, and mint chewing gum, but he at least visited the usually lonely, quiet rooms where Woohyun worked alone. As much as heâd hate to admit, Sunggyu was, in a way, a pleasant sight at the end of a long, silent day in which Woohyunâs only company had been unresponsive to his light chatter.
His brows raised in surprise as the other mention that the body was already taken care of, a pleased smile then came upon his lips as he shuffled over to follow Woohyun to his desk â as his hand reached out to take the folder, snort left him. âItâs not like we donât see each other daily anyway.â He reminded. It was of pure coincidence that the two of them were apartment mates; in fact â Woohyun lived in the apartment right above Sunggyuâs. Taking the folder in hand, his eyes skimmed over it for just a moment before he leaned against the desk and clicked his tongue against his teeth.
âIf you get called to the stand for questioning â just in case, donât forget; you canât get too into detail about the women and how she died. If you go into too much detail it looks a bit weird. Some of the other officers are beginning to think youâre some sort of serial killer and I know well enough that youâre not.â It was a sort of joke, sort of not really a joke. Because some officers really did think Woohyun was some creep, and Sunggyu hated that â because he knew the other wasnât. He was just very good at his job, and the elder of the two could respect that at least.
He gaze raised and his eyes met Woohyunâs.
I might be back again later this week for the corpse who was murdered in front of that Gay Bar. Itâs kinda of gross how he died too but weâll need to keep that on file.â
Sometimes he hated the fact that he dealt with so many deaths, but it made his life interesting. If he didnât work as an investigator, heâd just be sat on his couch at home drinking all day and night. At least his work got him out of the house and moving about.
Sunggyu held the folder more securely to his person before leaning away from the desk and licking his lips, âI guess Iâll see you later then.â He wasnât so sure what to say next, he wasnât the best at chatting it up with others and he did have a case to close; he glanced at the clock on the wall, the court hearing was in about three hours. He had to get back to his office, file out the work and get one more interrogation with the suspect before closing up. Too much to do in such a short time, but it was possible.

With a heavy sigh and a shake of his head at the horrible jokes he lifted his head and set down the scalpel, splaying his hands flat on the metal table the woman lay on. âWhat do you want, Kim?â He could feel him stood behind him, body heat radiating in the cool room, and immediately the memory of how considerably taller than Woohyun the man was made him frown and grit his teeth. No matter how much he considered the man a friend, in a way, he would never not be annoying.
âIâm here for a case.â
It was obvious why he was there, he doesnât understand why Woohyun had to question his motives each and every time the investigator came to visit him in his horribly cold room. Stepping back from the male, he reached into his pocket to grab a folded up sheet of paper, and tapped the otherâs arm with the parchment. âFemale, 24 â Death by asphyxiation, but also Iâm assuming she was raped. I just need an okay from you to confirm it. Itâs basically whatâs keeping this case from moving forward and you know how irritated I get when a case is prolonged.â
His gaze settled on the corpse for a moment, another women who seemed to have met her time too soon⊠or perhaps not. He glanced at Woohyun again, âBut Iâd really appreciate it if we could hurry along and get this out of the way⊠you know, I have things to do and liquor cabinets to empty back at home.â
Not to mention he needs to buy more cat food for Fluffy and pick up a few other things before going back to his apartment. As soon as he had this rapist/murder in jail he could continue on with his life. Â He was sure that the body of the women was sent in the day before, and usually the other man was a fast worker. If Woohyun hadnât already gotten to the corpse, Sunggyu dreaded to think of how long heâd have to wait for the other to confirm his words.
It should be easy shouldnât it? â âDonât you just have to check to see if there was forced entry?â he mumbled after a moment, âQuick and easy right?â he chewed a bit on his gum before pursing his lips.
âAt least it should be.â
âÎčΜÎčηg ÎčŃ Ï Ï
Usually death wasnât something that brought friends together, but in their case it was.Â
Sunggyu took the elevator down to the lower level of the hospital, fingers lazily unwrapping a stick of mint gum as he thought about the current case. A typical rape and murder - though he had to have solid evidence that the women was raped; otherwise all his evidence would be invalid. Which was why he was making his way towards the morgue to get his words confirmed by a professional. Or, as professional as he can get. He wouldnât call Woohyun a professional purely for the fact that he liked to bust the otherâs balls.Â
Stepping out of the elevator, Sunggyu shoved his hands in his pockets, fingers crunching the gum wrapper into a ball as he chewed his minty treat; something to hide the strong smell of liquor on his breath. He made way to where the other worked, shivering slightly - It was always annoyingly cold in the morgue, Sunggyuâs ears would usually turn pink and his lips would chap - incredibly irritating.Â
Pushing the door open to where the other worked ( his sort of âofficeâ ), Sunggyu noticed the rather lively music playing in the background and snorted allowed, gaze shifting momentarily to the radio on the manâs desk -Â âLiving it up in here,â he called out, casually making his way over towards the shorter male who was currently leaning over a corpse, knife in hand. Sunggyu peered over his shoulder and let out a low whistle.Â
âShe seems to be the life of the party.â he grinned, tilting his head slightly to the right.Â

âHonestly, probably - yes.â

Perhaps he went a bit overboard this time around; not that he particularly cared. His tongue felt a bit numb and his steps werenât too steady, but his thoughts were clear and beautiful. He absolutely loved being drunk, loved how he could think clearly and feel truly like himself - he just wished his body caught up with his mind and acted accordingly.Â
â To thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man.âÂ
The words came awkwardly from his lips, sâs a bit lisped and some words slower than others - but the general thought was solid. He had in his mind Shakespeare and thus the poet came forth. A snort left him a moment later, and Sunggyu turned his gaze down towards a couple walking past him, hands clasped tightly together but faces buried in their phones.Â
âIs this what relationships have come to?â he laughed, a bit too loudly at that. âI give this another week before one of you ends up getting bored of the other.â
....The slap to the face might not have been entirely worth it, actually. His mind rand wild with thoughts, clear as day - but as he said, his body couldnât really keep up, and that included his tongue.Â

It hasnât even been a week, and already Sunggyu finds himself cursing under his breath as he checks behind the fridge for the tenth time - no kitten in sight. He swore to himself when he bought the small thing that heâd keep a close eye on it, that heâd actually trust himself in taking care of another living being. But unfortunately for him, he had left the front door ajar while getting the mail that morning and when he got back he was sure the tiny creature had escaped. It was a black furball; it shouldnât have been that hard to find, and yet ...Â
A large sigh left his lips as he stood up slowly and glanced towards the front door, he had hoped his kitten had trotted off and out of the apartment, but that seemed to be what had happened. Stepping out of his apartment he closed the door shut with a click and made his way down the hall on both sides, making sure to check every corner. He did this going three floors down, checking every nook and cranny and still; no sign of FluffyKins.
Yes, Fluffykins.Â
Irritation was beginning to set it, but so was worry. He couldnât think straight whilst being sober, he wanted a drink so bad but he had to find that damn kitten first.Â
Once out of his apartment, Sunggyu found himself more out of luck at the sight of the moon high in the sky. It would be even more difficult to find that kitten now that he didnât have the natural light of the sun to light his way. Another curse under his breath and Sunggyu begrudgingly began to call out the small things nickname -Â âFluffy!â
