it’s not weird to find fanfiction from 2021, or 2017, or 2014 that you’ve never read and actually taking your time to read it.

it’s not weird to love it and comment and leave kudos because the author will probably still see it someday and it will make them happy.

it’s not weird to like said author’s work so much that you want to go look for other fics from them.

it’s not weird to go through the authors profile and look for other fics from the ships you like (or maybe some that you’ll give a chance because you liked the author) and maybe bookmark them for later.

it’s not weird to read these other fics and like them too and comment on them because you actually like them and you want to let the author know.

it’s not weird to read fanfiction from 5, or 8, or 10 years ago and actually enjoy and engage with it because it’s perfectly normal to relate to something that’s less than a decade old!

let’s stop treating fanfiction like they’re instagram posts that stop being interesting in 24 hours! fanfiction is NOT social media, fanfiction is art!!! and art doesn’t get old in one day, one year, or even a decade!

read fanfiction! write fanfiction! comment on fanfiction! let’s not let fanculture die people!!!!!

Not only is it not weird, it is ACTIVELY ENCOURAGED. Authors LOVE IT when people do this!!! Its not "weird" and its not "neutral" -- its a fucking DELIGHT. Feel very absolutely free to read though an author's entire back catalogue, leaving kudos and/or comments along the way; we absolutely freaking love when someone does this. There is nothing more joyful than getting a comment notification for an old fic. It will make our day, I promise.

And yeah, I've only read the first book of the sword of truth (and that was a very long time ago) but from what I've heard about Goodkind I can imagine. I just find it interesting - I listened to this podcast once where the hosts used to be in the Seeker fandom, and they said at the time of s2 everyone just sort of moved on from Richard/Kahlan to Cara/Kahlan, without ship wars. So, interesting to imagine how that could have influenced. Still, I'm guessing what they perceived was still niche, and even without Goodkind 2009-10 was still peak queerbaiting era (and had the show made it a few more seasons Cara might have end up a bury your gays victim 🥲). So yeah. Better leave it to fanfics anyway.

2. can confirm, lil' teenage Foibs joined the fandom while season two was airing and it was a wonderland. legitimately the least toxic fandom I have ever been part of. everyone was just having a complete blast together and cheering each other on and reveling in the absurdity of our silly little show. I miss it very, very deeply. Such a formative time in my life spent with such wonderful people.

3. and fully agreed, the subtext between those two could have carried us through twenty seasons. they're just THAT POWERFUL.

Oh no, sorry about feeding the Seeker content!

I came with another question I almost dare not ask then, but here goes: were the rumours about the s3 love triangle true or were they just wishful thinking? If yes, how do you imagine, realistically, that it might have gone down?

I imagine something like this. We find out Cara has feelings for Kahlan (like, she should be confessed but isn't). Kahlan is ~confused~ and there are some moments to feed the fans, like something that happens between them in another plane of existence, whatever. But ultimately Kahlan and Richard are still endgame and they give Cara another lady love interest, but no one is really invested in that ship.

Oof....what a question. IF there was to have been a canon love triangle moving into future seasons--and I do think Tab and B were just thinking wishfully, though it's so exciting they would've been down for it--I truly can't see it going any differently than the way you've delineated it here. At the time, Terry G (may he rest) would've disemboweled the TV crew had Richard/Kahlan been anything but unequivocally endgame. and like, I love doomed yuri as much as the next clown, but OUGH i don't think I could have handled it happening on screen for these two, lmao. ouchies. it hurts. my poor babies. thinking about it makes my belly ache.

my own wishful thinking: if the showrunners decided to be brave and do something cool and go completely off-script for season 3 and turn Richard into more of a Paul Atreides-esque figure.............assuming the throne of D'Hara and slowy becoming/being turned into the tyrant he once stood against (as is the unanswered question posed over and over again in season one)........eventually coming to odds with the Mother Confessor who's once again taken her seat in Aydindril................Cara, in the middle, contending with her conflict re: her loyalty to Richard the Man (who did great things and earned it beyond the Rahl bond) versus her loyalty to Richard the Ruler (who may be slowly losing it by doing not so great things) and her training as a Mord-Sith versus what the rest of the world has taught her and also these feelings she's been harboring for Kahlan........LET ME LIVE
