Saying those words out loud makes Annabeth’s stomach growl. She feels nauseous, which she figures probably is not just psychological, all things considered. She has no idea what she’s going to do about this yet, but saying the word father actually makes it feel like a baby for the first time. She lifts her gaze to take in her friends’ stunned expressions, their matching o-shaped mouths and wide eyes.

“Percy Jackson?” Piper gasps. “Percy your-best-fucking-friend Jackson?”

percy and annabeth haven't seen each other in seven years. maybe the distance between them is shorter now, though | one shot

It’s over 10pm on a Thursday in a New York subway station, and the gust of hot wind coming from up the stairs makes Percy regret putting on a button up shirt. He would usually wear t-shirts for work in the end of the school year, with summer coming around and the heatwaves making each year more unbearable. Today, however, was parent-teacher meetings day, so he had to at least look presentable. 

He’s tempted to check his phone for the temperature, considering it’s late night and he still feels like he’s inside a microwave. He doesn’t, though. It’s over 10pm and he’s standing at the platform in a New York subway station, and he’s also not a moron.

So he just looks around, searching for something else to entertain him. 

A rat running through the rails. Normal.

A homeless man building a castle out of used aluminum cans. Basic.

A curly haired woman running down the stairs, her eyes fiercely looking around even when she speeds up at the sound of the train- Wait.

Annabeth Chase stops in the middle of the platform just as the train arrives, and he knows, in that second, she’s seen him too. The wind makes her curls fly around her face, her gray eyes matching the blurred train behind her, and it gives her such a cinematic appearance that Percy considers he might be having a vision.

My one boring tip to anyone in their 20s is to resist the temptation to rot in your room every time you get a free moment. Dismiss any neuroses you have about going outside and "being perceived". Be a dictator about it, plan your hangouts like they are binding commitments. No excuses! Go to the bar with your friends. Be kinda hungover at work. Socializing is like exercise; even if you don't feel like you want to, you should still do it because it's good for you.

thinking about those lines where annabeth is like “the greeks invented tragedy. but surely even the cruelest gods would agree we deserve a happy ending” and like when you actually think about how incredibly disturbed and insane some of the myths are it’s like. no i don’t think they would actually lol

The Percy hate does seem a bit extreme. Like, it does seem pretty clear your percy and annabeth's friendship had run its course way before the pregnancy and rachel. Percy basically points that out. She's moved on, and prioritizes Hazel and Piper now, they are her people, and she and Percy just don't seem like they were really close anymore even before the pregnancy. She didn't tell him for a long time, finally told him and got mad when he tried to take an interest in her life, and then got mad again when he wasn't catering to her? Like she says, it's just pregnancy hormones and trust issues. But it does make her the problem. The only person who should be mad at Percy is Rachel, because she does deserve to know that the guy she's dating is about to be a father. I am a hardcore Percabeth shipper and I do hope that eventually they find their way to each other. But it is very clear that they have zero romantic interest in each other right now and that them getting together romantically will take years and a lot of redefining of their relationship (and also probably rests on Rachel not wanting to date a guy with a baby on the way. Because if Percy and Rachel get serious, I don't think he's leaving for anything, cause his whole deal is loyalty.) Hope they get together before the kid's in high school. Though I do wonder what it will mean if he and Rachel have kids before that. Look forward to where you're headed.

yes, i wouldn’t say the friendship had run its course, but if all it took for them to stay together was a baby, i don’t think 18 years of friendship with no romantic involvement whatsoever would be justifiable. also i think the idea is that neither of them acts perfectly in this situation bc honestly who would?

Loved the chapter!! Communication!!!🎉🥳 Very excited to see how the story progresses from here. I think ppl will come around to Percy more when he proves himself with his actions lol. Personally, I live for the drama. I think it will make the reconciliation/happy ending that much sweeter and more satisfying ❤️ I feel like for long-time friends-to-lovers stories to be interesting, there should be compelling reasons why they're not already together. And we can see why Percy and Annabeth are not together yet...they're a hot mess...but a hot mess you want to root for!
