In the lead-up to the Costume Institute’s forthcoming “Manus x Machina” exhibition, we’ve been adding to Vogue Runway’s show archive collections in which the combination of technology and traditional dressmaking techniques took center stage. Our final installment in this series, which includes shows by Junya Watanabe and Givenchy, is Issey Miyake’s Spring 1995 show, in which his famous heat-and-pressure–set polyester micro-pleats (to which many designers paid homage for Spring 2016) were featured, most dramatically in architectural dresses with built-in movement.
