“We’ll see what we can do for it.” One of his reassuring smiles is directed towards the trainer. From her outward appearance, he can only imagine the sort of worries that are surging through her mind at that precise moment. It would be completely understandable for her to think the worst at a crucial time like this.

“Okay, Gwen, let’s work together to figure this out.” He’s glad that he knows her name, but shakes his head to silently convey that she needn’t apologize for not introducing herself sooner. She had been focused on delivering the egg and explaining the situation, so it was to be expected.

Quick steps are taken from the elevator after it comes to a stop. Luckily, the journey isn’t a long one and they swiftly arrive at the appropriate room. There’s already a variety of Pokémon eggs taking up a few of the incubators, a high-quality thermometer and hygrometer placed in each one. The set-up has been arranged to immaculate standards and this new arrival’s temporary home would be no different.

“This one here is already set to go, but let me double check.” He leans down, taking in the temperature and humidity levels in one of the empty incubators. Yes, it certainly was ready to house a new egg and yet he doesn’t want to place it in right away. First, he would like to examine the inner workings to see what might have gone wrong.

Moving towards a machine that’s off to one side, he carefully inserts the egg into one of the slots. The process of inspecting whether an egg is alive or not can be done by anyone who owns a flashlight, but this machine was used for convenience. They looked after many eggs at once, after all. Closing the lid of the machine, Sycamore gestures for Gwen to join him. After a couple of button pushes, the screen on the side switches on, displaying the egg.

“We’ll candle the egg to see if there’s any life inside.” If the poor thing had passed, then rings or blood streaks would show. If alive, there would be distinct veins. Several seconds pass them by as the machine works its magic. It’s a horrible wait that the professor has gone through many times, sometimes with upsetting results. Fortunately, the egg begins to show the veins. They were faint, but they were there.

(⚡) – A sigh of relief seemed to escape the young trainer’s lips.            To be honest Gwen felt she was going to come close to                tears if the Egg was stillborn. Oh god...she wouldn’t know                how to break the news to Spark if that happened! While yes                coming across a still born egg was not uncommon it still                stung when the poor Pokemon within the egg would not make                it. Her light brown hues were transfixed on the egg, happy to see                that the baby Pokemon inside would live.

            “Oh thank god....” replied Gwen happily as tears of happiness                 began to spill down her cheeks. Wiping her face quickly with the                 back of her sleeve, she tried to keep herself together. But, no words                 could express how happy and relieved she felt for the egg.

             “Ah---...sorry about that Professor...”she sniffled as she wiped a few                   more tears off her damp cheeks, “Umm...so we know that the Pokemon                   is in fact alright....but, why won’t they hatch?” she asked, her eyes searching                   Professor Sycamore for answers.

A rather happy yet thrilled smile danced           upon her lips as she began to speak highly of Steven.           “Ah, it’s so awesome we have Steven on our team!”she           exclaimed, “I mean if it weren’t for him...I doubt we would               have a abundant supply of thunder stones for our pokemon              but on top of that...I must admit the steel trainer does give a           touch of fresh air to our usual routine around the Instinct              compound.” she giggled.

           “Gwen sounds like you’re forming a crush on the lad.” teased the                other trainer. Shaking her head in response, Gwen chuckled slightly,               “No...the complete opposite actually...I adore our friendship, and admire                his work.”
