I’m slowly getting to a place where I’d like to do more on here again, though I think to keep it simpler I’m going to just write one character for the minute (Mrs S.) while I get myself sorted. I’ve debated throwing her onto her own blog but if I ever write others again I’d want it all in one place.

I’m going to go through my followers as I’ve noticed some have switched to new blogs and look for some new things to do. So I guess starter call to chat with a lovely angel? 

With where my head is and wanting to get back into the fold I ended up creating a new blog just for Mrs S., I thought that a fresh start might help me get somewhere. I’m over on @aeva​ with her and I’ll slowly be going through and transferring things across and setting up. Jump over, give a follow, let’s something up?

                SHE SMILES A LITTLE AT THAT.   It does make her happy,  Mrs S. is right about that,  she can’t deny it.  It’s exhausting,  painful  even at times,  but she loves it.    

                The question receives a slight shrug,  her expression turning thoughtful.  “It’s more just something I’ve been thinking about.  I think I need to do a bit of research first…”  The last thing she would want is to keep a high-energy dog cooped up in her small apartment all day. “See,  I’d prefer a larger breed,  but I’m not sure I have the space,  so… It might not happen,”  she finishes with another little shrug.  But she can’t deny that her days off work are rather  lonely,  and a dog seems the easiest way to remedy that. 

“What about something in between?” She paused to drink some of her tea, a slight frown at the taste of it. It’s not quite what she’s used to and even though she has had this blend before it tastes different, though she’s been told that’s not uncommon.

“You might see one you unexpectedly love when you see them.” Something smaller than Minerva thinks she’d prefer. Or she’d fall in love with one she didn’t have space for.

“We’d... talked about a dog once but now’s not the right time.” A gentle attempt at her topic, though there’s every chance she’ll still back away and just talk about dogs.

Her eyes widened looking to her daughter before a warm smile formed. Had she wanted to have children of her own? The Goddess lit up at the mere thought of having grandchildren, but stopped herself, replaying her words once again. “What’s stopping you from having children? If you need my blessings, I’ll glad give it.” 

If Mrs. S wanted to have children, then being the one to bestow life, Goddess would help support her in anyway needed. She knew all it would entail to be a mother. “Just as in life, there is joy and pain in being a mother. You deeply love your children and want nothing but the best for them, but if you end of losing them, you can lose yourself too if you aren’t careful.” She knew it all so well, the pain of grief.

“I know.” She’d seen such pain over the years, comforted those who felt it, and she knew that seeing it would be nothing like experiencing it, as much as you hoped to never find out what it was like.

“But I suppose... I don’t know if it’s possible. I feel it, I want to do it but I don’t even know if it’s possible.” Maybe she was just afraid, worried that it wouldn’t be possible, not wanting to get her hopes up to lose it but also as much as she wanted to be a mother she knew it was a terrifying idea. Exciting, wanted, but terrifying.

“I was an angel turned mortal, that’s not exactly something we know anything about.” She was mortal, perfectly human, she just wasn’t thinking in a solely human context.

Giles saw the look and understood it for what it was. He’d made the same look to his young friends more often than not. The secretly triumphant ‘I told you so’. He gave her a tight smile before giving the page another once over, this time with a pen trailing under the cryptic letters. Not that it did anything.

“Eighth century, do you think?” He was fairly certain the text referenced the mechanics of some sort of rudimentary machinery designed for a specific task. And perhaps it was not a language as such. “This is a blueprint, isn’t it?”

She laughed softly, pleased that he was starting to get there before turning her book around to him, stepping closer. 

“Look at this text.” She indicated with her own pen at something that might seem a little familiar in it to the one he’s reading, the similar groupings of letters, a style to it. “I haven’t seen this exact blueprint before but I’ve seen the style. What they want this one for... that’s what we need to decode.”

And why anyone now would want an eighth century blueprint... oh boy.

Goddess seemed to calm down at her touch, feeling the sense of anxiety going away. She was being reminded that everything was okay now. She was here with one of her children and it was all fine.

The deity slumped down onto the chair and wiped her tears away. It was silly- she should be the one comforting her, not the other way around. It was a parent’s job after all- being the one to guard against tears.

“Thank you for reminding me- I just…I get ahead of myself and lose it.” She had always been on edge since Lucifer and vowed to never let that happen to any of her children ever again. “I’m glad you’re here. I love you all so much.” 

“I don’t fault you for that.” She got up to move her chair closer, to make that small contact between them easier and no matter what her mother thought she would always be there to comfort her when she needed it -- she’d done it many times before and she’d never stop doing it.

“A lot has happened with us throughout time and... even in human parents I see those same worries, for you, for how long you’ve had to watch us?” She shook her head slightly -- it had to be so much worse, to worry about your children for so long.

And maybe that’s why now feels like the time to mention something that she’d kept quiet for a while, even if it had ended up being obvious to anyone that had met her.

“I’d hoped to know that. After becoming mortal... I’d observed it for so long.” And it wasn’t just that she’d seen it and wanted it but she’d felt it, wanted a child, wanted to be a mother. But now it didn’t seem as if it would happen.

I never post life-related things here but considering I haven’t been doing responses I wanted to at least check in. I’ve been having a very rough time lately which, despite having lovely responses or wanting to write, made logging in very difficult. I do want to start coming back to responses but I might have to do it solely from notifications as looking at the dash is still too much. I’m sorry to those I reached out to for starting new things, I’d still love to but it might have to be on hold for a little bit while I get back to it/me. Please bear with me and if anything gets too old no hard feelings on letting it go.  ♥

       “it’s true, i never kid, and i don’t think i’d be very good at it if i tried.” certainly, there’s discomfort, standing across from a romulan — on earth, of all places. zack hasn’t left vulcan in years ( his annual christmas visits to the addys don’t count ) and being away, being here, now, just feels strange. this isn’t even his job, but who else is going to do it? it would certainly be easier if the dead could just stay dead — relics and ancient remains that don’t haunt the living in worse ways than they did when they themselves were alive.

but such is the nature of the job.

“so as i said, the body i identified that was originally believed to be vulcan was actually romulan.” he pulls up a picture on his padd — a rendering of what the deceased may have looked like when she was alive, without the physical and biological alterations that allowed her to pass for a vulcan. “do you recognize her?”

There’s a curious look that she gives to him, watching and listening as he works, giving him far more attention than it appears that she is. But then he hands her the padd, causing a frown from her.

“No.” But she’s still looking at it, as if there’s a memory in place that she’s not certain if she can place or not, though rather than answer again she looks back up at him.

“But there are other Romulans on Earth, something that I know you’re aware of.”

                MINERVA JUST STUDIES HER FOR A MOMENT,    nodding slowly as she listens.  The last thing she wants to do is ask too many questions,  but she won’t deny that she’s a little worried — it’s hard not to worry at least a little,  seeing her friend going through something so difficult.  

               That last statement catches her a little off guard,  brow furrowing slightly,  but a moment later she nods again.  If a distraction of sorts is what Mrs S. needs right now, she’ll try her best. “Well,  I guess there are quite a few things I could tell you,  but I think most of them you’d find boring.”  Minerva admits with a faint smile.  “I started teaching a children’s dance class a few times a week…”  That had to be the most interesting that had happened in a while.  Her life has definitely been a bit  repetitive  lately,  nothing entirely out of the ordinary happening very often. 

              “Oh!  I thought about getting a dog… So I guess that’s something?”  She gives a little shrug,  somewhat uncertain.  She can’t help feeling she’s completely failing at this distraction thing.  “Aside from that it’s just been…work.”  

“You say that as if your work doesn’t make you happy.” And she knows Minerva, she knows that the woman adores dancing, that she wouldn’t want to do anything but it. But Minerva’s little pieces do make her smile a little -- it’s nice hearing someone else talk, hearing something of someone else. And it’s certainly a very good distraction.

“Tell me about this dog. Have you gone to look at any or is it just something you were thinking about?” In another life she’d probably love a dog but that was a life years off if it ever happened now. Timing simply wasn’t on her side.

                SHE’S BEEN TRYING     to offer whatever support she can,  but always uncertain whether to give Mrs S. space,  and how much space was too much space?  She knows from experience that time alone to process things can be a good thing,  but  too much  time alone can make it worse — and where’s that line? She’s called to check on her on a regular basis,  stopped by when she can and tried to help in any way she can,  yet somehow it never feels like enough.

                Minerva can’t deny that she’s relieved when her friend agrees to meet her.  It’s a small thing, but she hopes it will do some good, even if it just serves as a temporary distraction. She can’t imagine what Mrs S. is going through right now,  the only person Minerva has lost is her father,  but she had been so young at the time,  and they had never really been close to begin with.  Still,  it had hurt,  and she can only imagine what her friend is feeling must be so many times worse. 

                “How have you been?”  She’s not entirely sure it’s even the right question to ask,  but she’s genuinely concerned.

“I don’t know.” There’s been so much emotion lately that it’s hard to put just one feeling on it -- some days she’s felt numb, some broken. Today... she’s currently on the positive side of okay, trying to cling to whatever can keep her there, trying to focus on the positive things that she does have in her life, those things coming.

“I’m trying to just take each day at a time, hour by hour.” And it was hard but this hour had something for her to focus on, something to help it positively pass. And it really was nice seeing Minerva.

“Which means that I’m hoping you’ve got a lot to tell me.”

It was as if her words had struck through her very core of being- or maybe it was her reaction towards what she had done? Either way, it left her with a awful feeling and a means to think over her actions. 

She had just sent an innocent mortal male to fall for eternity, all because he said a stupid pick-up line that struck a nerve for her. 

This wasn’t her. Normally she wouldn’t bat an eye at such a thing, but this- it was taken TOO FAR. Goddess didn’t hesitate in her moment of fury and grief, serving judgement when she should have been understanding. This wasn’t her…some would say this was an act of her husband’s. 

❝ What have I done? ❞ she exclaimed, snapping her fingers and freeing the man. Goddess began to sob, tears falling from her eyes. ❝ I didn’t mean to. I-I just…I don’t want to lose anymore of my children! ❞ 

“Hey--” A hand reaches to rest on the other woman’s, a comforting, calming gesture. It wasn’t easy to see this reaction in her and considering that she already felt a little guilty, felt as if she’d let both of them down by becoming mortal... but she bites it down, focusing on comforting instead.

“You haven’t lost any of us.” Well, maybe those that had fallen but... as much as she wanted to she didn’t know if she could hope that there’d be some reparations that could be made there.

“We’re still here and no matter what happens you’re loved.” And that was an important thing at least for her -- no matter what she’d done she would always love her.
