Ice tea & secret blend. When I get thirsty, beside mineral water I usually goes for an ice tea. It is easy to get anywhere in Indonesia. But did you know, there's a lot type of tea here? Especially for javanese, they got wide variation and mixture of tea. Not a single brand I can choose as my fave. Mostly, I have several choices for tea blend. My fave was tea blend by the nearby warung or rumah makan. They had acquired taste between bitter and fragrant. Yet the angkringan version is also my second favourite b'cos it had bolder taste than the warung version. Frou-frou. This cake is basically biscuit from meringue and had rusk sensation. The airy texture is the main thing for the frou-frou. By the name meaning were 'a rustling of a women's skirt' so that's why it has crumbling and dry taste. Cream mocha and chocolate with dry airy biscuits is a good sensation for me. Food as commemoration. Did you usually eat some specific food to remind someone that you loved the most? Well, I did. Back then, my late Oma usually cooked burnt omelette for me. Yes, a burnt one. B'cos she had a problem with the fire stove so it was a bit burnt everytime she had me an omelette. Whe I miss her, I cooked burnt omelette to reminiscing her presence. So did my favourite person in life has their own food to remind their presence in mine. My mom's sambal tumpang, my dad's family with their 'bothok', my best friend's home cooked meals or simply a bowl of bakso nearby back in college life. We have a special memory about the food we eat when we miss someone. Not only about how good the food is but also how much memory we can rejoiced from the moment we eat it. Oldskool bakery were a gentle reminder to me. Back then, when I was little I usually get a sweet bread from my Oma. She used to bought breads from the shop near the market when she had a chance. Typical sweet bread with burned mark on their sides, with simple filling & not so fluff. Bit dry and airy. This kind of bread were founded again by me in this place. That was a gentle reminder of my Oma's bought ones. But this place were bring a few items that new for me; old school cakes and savoury bread were great. Sari-sari At first, I always thought that this kind of shop were a bit more expensive than the market seller. Surprisingly, their price was the same but more various kind of snacks. My own favourite was assorted jajan pasar like kue ku, klepon, wajik, mud cake, tape cake, gemblong, mangkok santan and many more. I loved this kind of snacks. Reminiscing my memories about the famous Kaleyo in Jakarta. Last 2009, I tried bebek Kaleyo for the first time and fall in love with the taste. Back in time, they had tender yet crispy texture that meet my expectations about how fried duck should be. And their 'sambel mangga' were top of the pair. In early 2021, I met with the taste again in Bandung, the same brand Kaleyo from Jakarta.
