Write out a plan for regaining a healthy lifestyle
Why do I want this and why don't I do it?
I'm talking about eating clean, shedding of the last few pounds.
I mean, I'd lose them probably pretty easily if I'd just keep to my one rule:
Only eat unhealthy food on special occasions or dates
I don't follow this rule. Instead, I am constantly walking to the kitchen grabbing something to eat. In secret. In ways no one will notice. I realise how unhealthy this is. I realise I've been gaining fat the last couple weeks. It has to stop before I lose all my hard work.
I want a healthy lifestyle. I want to be able to say no to my mind, to my cravings. I want to go a day without snacking and not feel the urge. I want to snack and not feel guilty. I want to be able to stop when I feel bloated or full. I want to enjoy a nice glass of water as much as a not so tasty cookie.
I don't do it, because I don't see the point. I've already got someone who loves me and tells me I'm beautiful every day he sees me, even when I'm naked, even when I'm dirty and sitting like a slob and feel bad. It's good that I don't feel the need to change for him, but it's unhealthy what I'm doing now, and I want to do it for me also. I want to look my fittest, because I can. I'm young now. I've got time now. It just takes some discipline and some getting off my ass. Just gotta do it and plan my meals and stuff. Just gotta go to the gym, just gotta run. I've done it all before and I can do it again.
High Land Dogs
Some upsetting things have happened this week. I feel like I should write about it, maybe it'll help ease my mind.
We're going to perform euthanasia on our dog, Yellow, this Monday. She's an over 14.5 years old Labrador Retriever, so she's had a long life. It still hurts. I've practically grown up with her and I can 't imagine not having her around, greeting me when I come home, licking my hand when I'm upset. She's had a great time, though, and it's painful to see her suffer from physical complications, so it's really for the best.
My bicycle got stolen. FYI, I live in the Netherlands and my bike is my #1 way of transportation around town. I use it daily, so it sucks big time. Luckily I've got a spare, meh.
We're not going to Scotland for holidays. We should have gone in 3 weeks but my dad's visa got rejected. So now we have to find something else. I really want to something mountain-y and my sister does not. That'll be fun.
I've been overeating like crazy and ugh.
Habits and willpower
I lack both. I'm going to work on it. After some reading, I learned some things:
Willpower is a muscle. It can be trained. However, one has only so much of it so if you anticipate on stuff that takes a lot of willpower, it will become easier. It's easier to say no to a cookie after an easy day than after a day of hard work. Glucose plays a role, so eat frequently and lot's of fruit.
Work one habit at a time, else it'll take too much energy and then all things you're trying to change won't work out as well as one at a time.
Make a plan. Refine it. Make mini-plans. Stick to it.
Rewards!
Repeat!
Doing everyday tasks with your non-dominant hand may enhance willpower.
Keep track. Make yourself accountable.
TV series: Suburgatory
I just found this show today, and I'm settling in to watch episode 9 of the first season. Needless to say, I like it. I'll probably be caught up within half a week. Because that's how I roll.
I noticed some Mean Girls references in there and Tessa vaguely reminds me of the sarcastic vibe Emma Stone often adds to her roles. It's pretty awesome. The characters are hilarious and I really like the setting they used: perfect lawns, plastic stay-at-home moms and 15 year olds getting nose jobs. I've only watched 8 episodes and I already feel there's a lot of character development going on. I like that. It's not a show frozen in time, it moves on and so do the characters.
So yeah great show.
Things I'm looking forward to
Starting college in September. I can't wait to learn new stuff, meet new people, being able to travel for free on weekdays. I'll be going to my favourite city with some of my favourite people in it. <3
Seeing Diede more often! We'll be in the same city a lot more and the Sociel studies faculty is right beside mine so yay
Taking pole fitness classes with Sylvia. I've always wanted to pole dance and now that I've even got a buddy to go with, it'll be even more awesome.
Making new friends! I really feel like I'm going to meet some awesome people in my major. It'll be one class for the whole year so I'll be around the same people a lot. I like that. I like consistency in the people I see, instead of having to deal with other people for every assignment and class and never getting to really know someone.
Bringing yummy healthy food for lunch breaks. I'm talking baby carrots and cucumber, fruit salads, baked oatmeal bars. I'll have an excuse to prep food, yay!
Being busy on a daily basis. Now I'm like "oh I have to do this one thing this week"

What health means to me
I find that defining stuff as what it means to me clears my head a whole lot - every day one is confronted with opinions from people all around them, and they may find themselves tangled in a web of expectations, false believes and peer pressure. Everything you see, do or hear has some kind of impact. It's how one chooses to process it that really makes the difference. You create your own truth - and agreeing to disagree is part of being an adult, I guess. So this is my truth about health.
Living a healthy lifestyle used to mean eating clean 24/7, exercising 6 days a week and drinking gallons of water. I lived by this for a while. It was my present and my future and it would be all I was thinking about. I skipped parties, afraid of the temptations that might be there. I never had peace in my head because I was constantly thinking about what to eat next, what not to eat, how long my workout that day should be and whether it was enough.
This is not health. Obsession is not health.
One eats and exercises to live optimally, one does not live to eat and exercise. That's one thing I forgot about.
That has changed now. I like to eat yummy foods that are good for the soul. I like to bake them and share with the ones I love. I love going out and having a good time, and I will eat the food that comes with it. I might miss a workout, I might not reach my goal weight within 2 months.
But that is nothing to regret, is it? As long as I feel like I've been enjoying my time on earth, it's all okay. I'm a healthy human being and if I keep on living like this, I will always be. I don't need a six pack to have someone love me. I don't need a six pack for me to love me.
Health is using the time that is given us, and not regretting the choices we make. Health is failing over and over again and forgiving and embracing yourself along with the mistakes you make. Health is seeing good in yourself and others. Health is spending time with the ones you love. Health is being curious. Health is taking it easy, yet working hard. Health is taking life as it comes, while fighting for what you believe is good. Health is good food. Health is enjoying moving, just because you can. Health is the experience you gain in life. Heath is loving yourself.
