Joy Sullivan, from "Late Bloomer", Instructions for Traveling West
Young girls cannot comprehend
being the object of desire
they perceive this as love
when in reality they are prey
Breedable, breakable, edible
I just want to be soft
The room full of women whispered
I yearn for flowy dresses
Baking pies for my friends
Healing wounds I didn’t create
Raising the community children
Singing them to sleep
That right was stripped from us
The violence does not cease
For poise and grace
Muttering whimpers
Or booming disapproval
As they penetrate our bodies
Their feverish greed takes precedence
Forced to be this way
Independent, individualistic
Wary, feral creatures
Because to be soft
In the face of ambivalence
Only gets you scorned
In this world order
Our elders peered
Into our deep wells for eyes
Chanting their wishes
For our brighter futures
Hanging on to the hope
That change would be linear
Our destiny brighter than theirs
Bells clang for the feast
They clung to the dream
That their children
daughters and granddaughters alike
Would cease to be
The main course
For the gnarling
Slashing of teeth
an under-appreciated view.
“Osman Hamdi Bey's Mihrab (1901), also known as Genesis, is a bold and symbolic painting that critiques societal norms and explores themes of reform, religion, and gender roles in a declining Ottoman Empire.
The painting features a woman in a bright yellow dress sitting on a Qur'an lectern (Rehal), traditionally used to hold the Qur'an, with religious books scattered at her feet. Her back is turned to the mihrab (prayer niche).
This work, controversial and groundbreaking, has been interpreted as a commentary on women's rights and the need for social reform. The woman's possible pregnancy, suggested by the painting's original French title, La Genèse (Genesis, symbolizes the birth of a new era).
By placing the woman where the Qur'an would traditionally be, Hamdi Bey shifts the focus from religious dogma to human autonomy, particularly female independence.”
Plan for not being a stereotyped creation of your society:
1. Spend 3 days alone.
2. Take yourself seriously.
3. Whenever you are caught in a situation where you are made to feel girlish and helpless, bitchy and aggressive, or any other stereotype, leave immediately and do any action which you enjoy and is yours.
4. Rely on your own financial resources at all times.
5. Enjoy yourself a lot.
The scariest thing about men is definitely their lack of empathy. Interacting with men and seeing how they seem to just be incapable of empathy gives me a sort of uncanny valley feeling. Like these people look human but they don't act human. It's like seeing a mannequin, something in the shape of a person without the soul. Its disturbing. I wonder how? How can men rape, murder, abuse, and neglect people the way they do? If it were just a small number of them then i could write it off as an aberration, but its not. Most husbands don't seem to care that their wives are exhausted doing twice as much work as they do. Most fathers couldn't even tell you what their own children's birthdays are. Most men regularly watch porn, and the most popular porn tags are rape, schoolgirl, gangbang, choking, and sister/daughter. Not every man is a murderer or a rapist, but you can see their lack of concern for others in the everyday little things, like how most men don't wash their hands after using the bathroom, or how loud and obnoxious they will be even in places where people are trying to concentrate like classrooms, libraries, and offices. Its like most of them never once stop to consider how their actions will affect other people.

i hate male music reviewers because how dare you listen to an album made by a woman where she talks about abuse, having cancer and being scared of dying and not being a mother to her child and say that she’s “making herself the victim” and “main character syndrome”.
this is a woman who also suffered a miscarriage and still fucking went on stage and performed.
a man could NEVER. the misogyny in the music industry is rampant but that’s another conversation for another day.

The Crooked Forest
This pine grove is one of the most unusual forests in Central Europe. The so-called Crooked Forest (Krzywy Las) is a grove of oddly-shaped pine trees located outside Gryfino, West Pomerania, Poland. The grove was planted around 1930, when its location was still within the German province of Pomerania. It is generally believed that some form of human tool or technique was used to make the trees grow this way, but the method and motive are not currently known.
