Hitchhiking Stop Motion: (Long) 5000 miles, 930 People!
Lets just hike the Appalachian Trail real quick
Fall Photoshoot, a set on Flickr.
ok maybe i'll share all of them
Part of my annual Fall photoshoot
If you ride and that's more your thing
Check out this one.
I heard about it from a co-worker. I haven't seen it yet but it's out and looks just as good.
I'm a unique breed. I'm a better skier but I like boarding too. I just picked up a board for this season. Usually people pick one and staying loyal to it. I guess that means that I go both ways.
ha.
Warren Miller's ski movie this year Like There's No Tomorrow will be on tour soon. These movies combine amazing cinematography with badass skiing. I've tried to see a them each year.
Though I can't remember if I made it last year.
It's like....Planet Earth for skiing.
It gets you pumped for the season.
In December it will be showing it at the Flynn Theater in Burlington.
ramblnsofmissy:
All I really want to do is go hiking.
Me: wearing headphones
Our guide: Are you listening to anything to get yourself pumped for the hike?
Me: No, not really...well actually yeah. Matt & Kim. Its really upbeat.
I hadn't though about before, but I always listen to them when I want to have energy!
This is what I felt like hiking Mt. Mansfiled the other day.
Except...minus the desert. And almost everything about it.
OK.
It's a good movie about adventuring and doing fun things. But sometimes things can also go terribly wrong with just one mistake. It's creative. It's suspenseful. I enjoyed it alot. I suggest it! But hey. I'm not a movie reviewer. But they are.
The Chin
Looking outside was, let put it this way, depressing this week-(end). Sunday was the day where I was suppose to hike Mt. Mansfield with a group from the wilderness club at camp champ. I kindof told myself that this wasn't even going to happen, mostly because of the damp dark coldness that was everything outside. This wasn't a day for a hike.
But it was.
Our guide for the hike sent an email the day before, encouraging us to come. He said that going in the rain could give us a completely new experience. He would give us some rain gear if we needed it, and I was sure to not wear cotton because it gets heavy and soaks up the rain.
It did.
We saw some views of the mountains covered with colorful leaves, while huge soft clouds floated by as we hiked up. When we made it to the summit, it was actually the least interesting place this time. We made it to the chin of Mt. Mansfield. Mostly because it was in the clouds, windy, cold, wet. We headed back down pretty quick.
The rain was harder.
The rocks were slippery.
The trails were now rivers.
The way down was tougher....even though we were on an easier trail this time.
About half the way down, we came across a search and rescue squad, that was belaying an injured person down the mountain.
The told us we would have to wait about 2-3 hours because there was no room for us to pass. There were a lot of rescue workers up there.
It was still raining.
Fortunately, they were nice enough to wait for a few minutes to we could go by. We didn't have to wait more then an hour. They didn't want us to have to wait so long and get hypothermia.
I would have never gone hiking in the rain. With the right equipment (cotton kills), it did offer a new experience that I was not expecting.
I'm not saying go hiking in the rain. But I'm always happy when I do things that I typically don't do.
I hope the injured hiker was okay.
Check out this: Zip lines.
Doesn't this look awesome? I know it might be hard to make it all the way to Maine for this, but there are more places around that do this.
This one particularly, is around $50 for the tour. I wanna fly 25MPH through the trees!
I swear i'm not getting paid by Sunday River, I just liked their videos the best.
YouTube should play videos in HD by default. They look so much better that way!
I had this idea for the blog, INTERVIEWS! I can interview other people about activities and events around Burlington! I can use b-roll, pictures or graphics to make it more interesting. This will be good content for the blog, that will help illustrate strengths in video.
This most recent video, is kindof a test run for my "interviews" idea. I "interviewed" myself, about running 5K's to see how this would work.
Next time, I need a better questions, better lighting (yes, I tried to work with what I had) and b-roll. But overall I think this could work.
It's strange, I'm not so good in front of the camera, but am always trying to make others comfortable so I can shoot them.
This week in Streaming Media 3, we started to learn the basics of using Motion. I've never used this software before, but I decided to see what I could do with a PSD after messing around with some photos.
I created a graphic for this blog, imported it into Motion and tried to animate it while looking at several different tutorials. It went better then expected. Expect for one problem. I can't find the keyframes. I tried to move them around so I could change the speed of the animation at certain points, however they just disappeared! The major problems that I was having with the software is that you need specific things "selected" so that it gives you the options you need. I'm thinking this is what my problem is with keyframes right now.
Hopefully I can go back and revise this and make improvements. Especially if I decide to use it as an intro for my videos.
I made this video on a ferry last weekend, while a group of us from Champlain biked from Burlington to Plattsburgh. Check it out to see our experience on the boat with bikes.
Been there. Done that. Those are exactly my thoughts when I'm considering things to do around Burlington and nearby in Vermont. However, there is more stuff to do right across the lake in New York. Granted, there isn't a whole lot to do in Plattsburgh for instance, but we caught some independence reenactment festival there on Saturday.
Our bike ride ended up being over 30 miles round trip. We saw some nice views, the Ausable River, bed races (at the festival) and ate some gross, yet delicious carnival food.
I like changing reality. Not in a bad way, but just to give a different perspective. This is one of the reasons I like video editing. You are in charge of the story.
A picture will give you a snapshot of how things ARE. But with this picture, you have the potential to manipulate it to show this reality in a different form. Of course, as long as its done tastefully.
