small headcanons that i incorporate into my own portrayal of rey !
—— i. i write that she has both the light & the dark side of the force in her, an important theme through my writing is that there is an abyss that’s constantly tempting her & it’s been there her entire life. that being said, she takes that darkness & anger & pain, & channels into hope & light. she remains good no matter how easy it may be to give into the dark side of the force.
—– ii. she is demisexual & panromantic. she’s a jakku desert child, she’s never had need for sexual attraction & oft doesn’t care for it however if she were close enough to a person & trusted them enough then she may be willing. gender she doesn’t care much for either, on jakku it never mattered — you were either a survivor or you weren’t. rey maintains that, gender has no politics on whether you can love & trust a person.
—– iii. she’s extremely introverted, verging onto social anxiety. she’s been alone her entire life both against her will & by choice. she likes to work alone because the people she’s been surrounded with her entire life have only ever wanted to use her or take what she has. she’s uncomfortable in crowds & most people she is unfamiliar with.
—– iv. i refer a lot to atlas as a result of her jedi capabilities. also as one of the few force sensitive people remaining in the galaxy, we can imagine there will be a lot riding on her in the movies to follow the force awakens.
—– v. she has insomnia due to her time on jakku as well as the events on starkiller. she’s been through a lot in her short life & now she’s been thrust into a new & unfamiliar situation, surrounded by people she doesn’t know. her not sleeping is just as much about not wanting to let her guard down as it is not wanting to let her mind wander into the pain she keeps ( mostly ) at bay.
