What FC Cup is. How did we get here?
The FC Cup started 4 years ago when a group of us decided to organize a small golf trip to stay connected with friends and family. It was fantastic.
On the very last night of our trip we discussed adding a little more purpose to the event for the following year. One that might help make a difference within our community.
So we unanimously decided to add a charity element to our little Golf Cup weekend. We weren't sure how or who but we knew we didn't want it to be your typical "charity golf tournament". Â We wanted the trip to be at our own expense and we wanted every donation to go directly to that charity.
Much like our event, we decided to keep our charities small. To help make a difference for those smaller organizations that may have a harder time gaining the public's attention. That led us to The Vickie Honeycutt Foundation. The foundation focused on helping families of teachers diagnosed with cancer.
They understood that, when dealing with a situation as serious as cancer, sometimes its the everyday things that require the most help. That is what spoke volumes to us as a group. The small things make a big difference.
The amount we raised that year was not a huge number, but to see how grateful they were that a group of guys with little association to them wanted to help out was amazing. After that the mold was set. The FC Cup was established.
We strive every year to raise more money than the year before,  while bringing more attention to these great local organizations that, in many cases, do so much with so little. Just like us.
The golf trip is just a golf trip bringing us together each year to catch up, laugh and enjoy the time spent with old friends and family. Because when it comes down to it, it's the small things that make the greatest impact.
