Fallout 4 Companions / Characters Headcannons + Love Language misc.

— Part 1/? —

Hancock

- Sole fixes a projector and makes movies a thing again in the Commonwealth.  Hancock enjoys Sole finding salvaged copies of old movies and TV shows, and hosting movie marathons together.  They’ll introduce popcorn to him, and enjoy it with a nice cold NukaCola.  Hancock finds it funny how film noir detective Nick Valentine is, now that he’s actually seen some films noirs.

- Likes to linger after a kiss.  Will keep his forehead pressed to his lover’s after a kiss, as a means of savoring the moment and person he shares it with.

- Likes when his partner rests their head on his shoulder.  Will slouch when sitting to ensure shoulder reachability.

- Sole wears his clothes, and for the most part, Hancock loves it.  He’s not willing to part with his trademark hat though.

- The people of Goodneighbor grow so accustomed to seeing Sole and Hancock together, that occasionally they’ll go to them, like they would Hancock.  This relieves him a bit, as he feels less like ‘the man’ when he shares the responsibility.  

- Likes to play the games on Sole’s Pip-Boy, but he’s incredibly bad at them.  He rages everytime he loses.

- Is a very big believer of chivalry as it applies to everyone.  Holds doors open, defends people’s honor, etc.  One of the things that attracts him the most about Sole is that they seem to believe in it too.

- Cannot do serious stuff with other people.  If someone’s taking themselves too seriously, both of them have a high chance of making weird faces, or disrupting it in some way, and making the other laugh.  

- While he’s not stingy with his compliments for Sole, he gets very flustered when they compliment him.  He’ll clear his throat, and/or rub the back of his neck, with a quiet ‘Uh, thank you.’

- Likes going shopping with Sole because they know how to barter well.  And while he has no shortage of caps, he finds it amusing, and a little amazing.

- Is a pretty decent artist.  Sole catches him doodling them together, and while they give him a lot of shit about it, they still keep the picture and hang it up where they live.

Cait

- Cait get tired of how do-good the other Companions are when Sole brings her around them, so after Sole becomes Overboss, they bring Cait there to meet some of the other raiders, and she finally meets a crowd she can fall in with.  Cait’s childishly delighted in Nuka-World itself, especially upon seeing it all lit up at night.  She likes riding the rides, manages to win at most all of the games, and realizes her feelings for Sole when they’re perched at the top of the ferris wheel.

- While she agrees that actions speak louder than words, she is uncharacteristically chatty with Sole, since Sole is one of the only people who actually listens and respects her thoughts and insight.

- Has the best drinking stories; and when people give her a chance, is very personable.  Has a good sense of humor, in a witty/snarky sort of way.

- Likes to walk arm in arm with Sole; they’re the only person she feels comfortable being physical with, without breaking a few bones in the process.

Gage

- Doesn’t see much of a point in going shopping (he usually just takes what he wants anyways), but when traveling with Sole in the Commonwealth, he follows them into a vintage clothing store.  He loses them between dusty racks of moth-bitten garments, and when he finds them again, it’s in the formal attire section, already trying on one of the more exquisite pieces.  He goes red; they look like they stepped straight out of a fairytale.    

- After squashing the rebellion in NukaWorld, he and Sole take some time off together.  They end up going to Far Harbor, to go somewhere no one else will be able to find them, and for the first time in his life, he feels completely free to be at ease.

- Is a really good kisser.  Kissing’s one of his favorite acts of intimacy.  Even if he’s not in the mood for sex, chances are he’s in the mood for a good, ol’ fashioned make out session.  

- After he and Sole start dating, he’s very generous with compliments; ‘you’re a stunner, you know that?’

- He and Sole host some banging parties up at Fizztop Mountain.  Those are the only times when the Nuka-gangs aren’t fighting the urge to rip each other to shreds.

- Is great with synth!Shaun, and kids in general.

Kent Connolly

- Sole’s personal locked box when it comes to secrets.  He claims to be lesser than the noble characters of the children’s stories he adores so much, but Sole has yet to meet someone they trust more with themselves.

- Likes someone who is aware of their flaws, and actively works to improve them.  Has a very low tolerance for vanity.

- Prefers grabbing a bite at the Third Rail to cooking.  In other words, he’s a pretty bad cook.  He’s never had a set eating schedule though, between his weird radio hours, and the like.

- When Hancock hosts a particularly swanky party one day, he and Sole must finally learn how to ballroom dance.  They both suck at it, but they have fun trying, and only dance with each other anyways.

Preston Garvey

- For someone who claims to not be a ‘hugger’, he gives the best ones.

- Likes to draw with Sole, even though he can’t do much more than stick figures.  He likes watching Sole work, and is glad they have something peaceful they can do together.

- Is genuinely interested in hearing about what Sole wants for their new future; and he makes mental notes to help make them happen.  After all, he owes his new dream to them.

- will always try to shoulder some of Sole’s burden as well.  Probably the most supportive partner tbh.

- Always says ‘see you later’ instead of ‘goodbye’.

Glory

- Will sample other people’s drinks when she goes out with them.  Sole was shocked to find this out, the first time they went out drinking with her.  To her credit, she isn’t stingy with her own either.

- Is very ticklish.  Gets “punchy” when tickled, so it’s rarely done.

- Knows how to cut hair, will give Sole haircuts.

Maxson

- Due to duties; both his and Sole’s, alone time together is a rare delicacy.  As such, he’ll record holotapes for Sole to listen to when they can’t be together; menial recollections of his day, how much he misses them, and other such things they might speak of could they be together.

- Secretly thinks tattoos look pretty hot.  Especially sleeves.

- Love hugging.  Is a huge hugger, since he’s so touch-starved.  Bear hugs are his specialty.

- Is new to love, and so ecstatic to learn about it with Sole.  It’s the most fulfilled he’s felt in a while.

William Black

- Is a post-sex cuddler.  And a without sex cuddler.  Actually, he’s just really cuddly in private; probably as a result of being so affection starved as a result of his brutal lifestyle.

- Is uncharacteristically supportive of Sole as they struggle to come to terms with their new life.  He understands the drastic shifts between lives himself, having been born in Diamond City.  He can’t imagine what it must be like leaping two-hundred years into the future either; he’s an understanding and patient partner in this respect.

- Likes leaving notes with Sole’s stuff so they can read them when they’re on the road.  He writes them while they’re fast asleep.

Mags Black

- likes someone who can keep up with her intellectually.  Enjoys speaking of philosophy with her partner as a sort of ‘pillow talk’, where she feels she has the time, and security to dabble in such roundabout topics.  In the practical sense though, she finds it useless.

- Is more patient with a crybaby Sole than one might think.  If it’s anyone else, she can’t stand it, but considering how strongly she feels for Sole, she’s quite a bit more doting.

- Always makes eye contact with speaking; it’s a big turn on for her, as well as a symbol of intimacy.  Occasionally will when they’re physically intimate.

Nick Valentine

- Is big into handholding.  The more intimate he is with his partner, the more so he won’t mind using his ‘bad’ one.

- Watches his partner sleep, since he doesn’t need to, and they often fall asleep cuddled in his arms.

- Can do his own repairs, but prefers going to his partner for them; he finds it intimate, and likes feeling taken care of.

Curie

- Laughs at all of Sole’s jokes.  Every single one.  Mostly because she’s knew to having a sense of humor, and finds the bubbly, swingy feeling in her stomach when she’s around it, delightful.

- Love flying after Sole takes her up to the Prydwen in a vertiberd for the first time.  Eventually would like to learn to pilot one herself.

- While she doesn’t take part in combat often, she is a big health-nut, being a doctor, so she tries to make it a habit to exercise.  Sole begrudgingly joins her, but luckily, Curie’s stamina is much lower than Sole’s, so it’s not too draining.

- Would always get embarrassed at listening to Sole’s heartbeat prior to them dating, at checkups.  And though it was silly, she always had half a mind that they could hear hers as well.

- Feels best following Sole around the Commonwealth.  She likes helping people and at the very least, she can ensure Sole’s wellbeing and health is taken care of.

Mason

- Tries not to smile much in public, as it is perceived as a sign of submission.  He smiles a ton at Sole though; he just can’t help it.  The Pack doesn’t dare call him out on it though, knowing full well he’ll compensate for any loss of his brutal demeanor with their punishment.

- Pets/scratches/traces patterns into his partner when cuddling like one might pat/scratch a domesticated pet.  Sole thinks it’s weird, but secretly enjoys it.  

- When cuddling, likes to be spooned, especially in a way that allows him to press his ear to his partner’s chest, and listen to their heartbeat.

- Always saves little knick-knacks, and trinkets he finds around NukaWorld for Sole when they come back to visit him.

Fallout 4 Companions / Characters Headcannons + Love Language misc.

X6-88

- Doesn’t have a ton of experience with romance, but likes linking arms with his partner, when they’re just casually strolling about.  He’s read enough to know it’s some sort of courtship gesture (although most of what he’s read literature wise is quite Dickensian)  He continues this even after people point out to him that it’s a bit old fashioned.  He likes the feeling of his lover near him.

- Sleeps near Sole per their request.  He pretends that it’s just for their comfort, but secretly, he’s grateful for their close contact as well.

- Is an absolute gentleman.  Probably waits the longest to be physically intimate with Sole.

- Gets really embarrassed when talking about his feelings, but he doesn’t mind writing about them.  As such, all the heavy, ‘feeling’-talks happen on paper from his side.  This includes when he finally confesses his feelings for Sole; all sign, sealed, and delivered, with love, xoxo.

- Gets really competitive in splash fights when he and Sole are forced to do some swimming on their adventures.  While Sole always starts these, he sure as shit finishes them.

- Thinks it’s silly when Sole gets embarrassed at bodily functions like sounds/smells/etc.  He truly thinks nothing of it.

Drummer Boy

- Gives really good massages.  Doesn’t like receiving because he’s sensitive and his reactions embarrass him.  He’s also pretty ticklish.

- Enjoys playing with his partner’s hair; it makes him feel anchored or tethered to them.  

- Likes to hear about Sole’s life before the war.  Will ask lots of questions.

- When Sole arranges a baseball game in Diamond City (to show Moe Cronin what baseball actually is), Drummer Boy shows up, and enjoys it a lot! He’s pretty good at it!

- Cannot be the first one to admit his feelings.  Is pretty much, physically incapable of taking that leap of faith.

- When things get very serious with him, Sole gives him their wedding ring (whilst holding onto their spouses).  It feels cathartic to both of them.

Jack Cabot

- Pre-Lorenzo dying, he enjoys planning his future with his lover; all the adventures they’ll have together, experiencing the wonders of the world together, etc.  Post-Lorenzo dying, Jack stops it all together.

- Enjoys head scratches.  Stingy with delivering though.

- Delivers a ton with butterfly kisses.  Especially following regular kisses.

- Is a big fan of poetry.  He’s a fan of the classics like Robert Frost and Emily Dickinson, given how long he’s been alive, and will quote it sappily to Sole.

- Sick of people calling him crazy, he thinks he solves this problem when he makes up a codeword for ‘aliens’ when he wants to talk about them with Sole.  Unfortunately, when they hear him talking about a ‘flagpole’ in that context, they only think he’s crazier.  Sole lacks the heart to tell him.

- Has sensitive eyes.  Always loses staring contests.

Fallout 4 Companions / Characters Headcannons + Love Language misc.

Deacon

- All that pre-war literature reading has paid off.  He writes wonderful, lengthy, and occasionally kinky love letters.

- Sings along to the radio with his partner; very loudly and very awfully.

- Enjoys reading with his partner, but  reading their own books, while cuddled up to one another, as opposed to being read to, or reading to Sole.

- Enjoys roughing it a lot more now that he’s partnered up with Sole; it feels more like camping, rather than work.  They’ll tell ghost stories, roast snacks over a fire, and sometimes even sing campfire songs if they’re drunk enough.

Travis Miles

- Is a very bad dancer, even though he secretly likes to a lot.  Is glad that his partner picks up on this, and invites him to, often.

- Will sometimes invite Sole down to help him DJ; he finds his confidence on the air grows then they’re with him.

- Finds a working camera, and when he lets Sole demonstrate on the both of them, he keeps the picture pinned up in his workspace, so he always has at least one friendly face in the audience.

- Takes Sole to meet his parents.  They love them, and make lots of corny, embarrassing comments about them and Travis.  Travis thinks he might die right there.

- Always shares his snacks with Sole.  Sole is a little bit stingier, but he doesn’t mind.

Magnolia

- Will feed her lover.  Will also eat off of her lover’s plate.

- Prefers her partner’s lap, over her own chair.

- Isn’t religious, but is ‘spiritual’.  Meditates.

- Likes to learn new things.  Will ask Sole to teach them some of their skills that she doesn’t share, but not to a committed extent.  Just enough to learn a new parlor trick, or until it gets hard.

- Is enthralled with pre-war pictures of Sole on the rare occasion they pop up.

Fallout 4 Companions / Characters Headcannons + Love Language misc.

Danse

- Has a scrapbook filled with sketches and portraits of Sole.  This dates back to before they were romantically involved.

- Likes wrestling/playfighting, and always let’s Sole win.  Has to be careful not to use his actual strength, as he is way to adept at combat to do so ‘playfully’.

- Likes watching the stars with Sole, and having them show him different constellations.

- Learns something new about Sole every day; falls a little bit more in love with them through each detail he learns.

- Danse can also cook well, and doesn’t follow recipes, relying on his skill, experience, and sense of taste/smell.  When Sole offhandedly mentions a pre-war dish they miss, he tries his best to recreate it for them, and often times ends up creating a new favorite in the process.

- Is bad at dancing, and embarrassed when Sole tries to teach him, publicly, at the Third Rail.  But he loves how close they hold him, and figures it’s worth his initial shame at being poor at it.

- Sole takes to wearing his shirts to bed.  He adores this.

Nisha

- Likes to card her fingers through her lover’s hair.  Will pull during sex.

- Is not shy regarding PDA.  Will kiss as much as Sole lets her, wherever, whenever.

- Physical intimacy is a really big thing for her, considering how dismissive the Disciples are typically, of life.  Every physically intimate act is sacred to her; a time in which she memorizes Sole with her fingers, and in some way, sees them through a different means.

The Mechanist

- You know that date trope with the one milkshake, and the two straws? Yeah, she’s all about that.

- Likes having the honest, tough conversations.  She feels like it’s one way she grows as a person, and finds redemption in them, following the whole Mechanist debacle.

- Likes to go on long, relaxing walks with Sole around the Commonwealth; it reminds her on her darkest days, of what she’s fighting to repent for, and protect.

Edward Deegan

- Likes watching his partner get ready.  Finds comfort in watching their routine, and likes how hygienic they are, especially relative to others in the wasteland.  Enjoys bathing with his partner.

- Enjoys talking about the relationship and feelings.  He’s pretty insecure, as well as he hides it, so getting it all out in the open is preferable to him.

- Grooming is important to him; as it’s something the Cabot’s instilled into him.  As such, he’ll never be caught in public sloppy, and prefers a partner who’s the same.

- Loves Dogmeat.  Lets him sleep on the bed with him and Sole.

- Knows enough first aid to fix Sole up when they get a bit banged up, but he knows they only go to him because they’re comfortable with him.  He really wishes they’d go to a real doctor.

- Likes to tag along with Sole on their adventures every so often, when the Cabot’s don’t need him.  He enjoys using his brawn to help those in the Commonwealth.

Longfellow

- Is great at nurturing his partner when they’re sick.  But will make you a terrible, health-broth that’s been in his family for generations.  Yikes.

- Likes a partner who can enjoy his hobbies too; like drinking, fishing, etc.

- Coming from out of the Commonwealth, he doesn’t fall into any of the inter-factional drama, so he gets along with all of Sole’s friends.

- Is a big believer in boundaries.  He doesn’t sugercoat his, nor does he expect Sole to sugercoat theirs.  If he accidentally trespasses past one, he’s sure to apologize and adjust his behavior accordingly.

Sturges

- Is a good cook.  Will make dinner at his place on the first date.

- Prefers seeing Sole without makeup/with a little dirt/grime, even if he is stunned by how great they look dolled up.  It just feels more like the face he fell in love with when it’s the former.

- Keeps his shop meticulous, and is a little shocked to find out that Sole isn’t as neat as he is.  While he can’t change them, he does tidy up their space whenever he gets the chance.

- Likes ‘the chase’, and is very teasing leading up to his and Sole’s first kiss.  Likes to move in close, so they get the idea, but will definitely make them close the final gap.

- He can read Sole’s facial expressions and body language like a book.  Is best at sniffing out what’s really wrong, and when something’s bothering them.  Was also very aware of how they felt about him, before they actually told him.

Piper Wright

- Nuzzles pre and post kiss.

- Is comfortable enough to do menial things in front of Sole; bathe, look herself when she’s not at her best, etc.

- Has so many inside jokes with Sole, that they practically speak their own, private language at this point.

- She and Sole play a game when they go out, where they people watch, and makeup lives for them based off of what they observe from their first impressions.

- After a particularly bad accident, Sole couldn’t live on their own for a while, and so they stayed with Piper and Nat.  It was supposed to be just until they were back on their feet, but then they got back on their feet, and none of the three found themselves wanting Sole to leave.

MacCready

- Enjoys listening to Sole’s breathing when they sleep; it’s a reminder that they’re still there.  After Lucy died, it was really tough for him to go back to sleeping alone, so sometimes he likes to just revel in the fact that he’s not alone anymore.

- A believer of PDA.  Is still sort of a kid, so if he feels threatened, he’s definitely a ‘sling his arm around Sole’, and scowl at the ‘threat’ sort of guy,

- Sole always falls asleep first when they’re reading together or cuddling at night.  He finds it cute.

- Makes Sole a mix-holotape, which ends up being pretty similar to Travis Miles’ Diamond City lineup.  But still.  It’s not like he has a ton of options to choose from, and it’s the thought that counts anyways.

Headcanons-How Gage Feels About the Other Companions

Cait- Doesn’t get along with her at all if he meets her before she gets clean, sees her as just another junkie commonwealth raider type.

If he meets her after she’s clean, he has a quiet respect for her, since she worked to better herself. Her constant drinking annoys the hell out of him though. She wants to fight him every time she’s drunk and he’s within eyesight; he’s not interested in a fight that doesn’t end up with someone’s guts on the floor and their money in his pocket. He figures Sole wouldn’t be too happy with him if that happened to Cait.

Curie- It’s not a secret that the idea of synths creeps him the hell out, but with Curie it’s a whole new level. It’s one thing to build a person in a lab, you can almost forget they weren’t born like normal people; but Curie started out as a robot. What does that say about humanity if you can take a programmed personality and slap it in a human shell? Doesn’t help that she’s so damn nice all the time. “Monsieur Gage, if I may, perhaps I could help you with your eye.” He shudders every time he hears that accent, and he avoids her like the plague. He is not at all pleased if Sole forces him to see her when he’s sick.

Preston Garvey- Hahahahaha fuck you.

Danse- Gage and Danse don’t get along at all and it’s very mutual. Danse is quick to dismiss Gage as just another piece of raider scum. Considering Gage’s thoughts on the Brotherhood, he thinks Danse ought to look in the mirror before he goes pointing fingers.

If Gage is romanced by a Fem!Sole, Danse makes him very insecure. The “white knight” military man probably has more in common with Sole’s late husband than a busted up old raider ever could.

Codsworth- Gage does not like robots; especially creepy robot butlers with stupid accents. He thinks it’s super annoying the way he nannies Sole; and he’ll probably break his fist on a wall if the damn thing compares him to Sole’s husband one more time. He’d smash the damn thing and scrap it for parts if it were up to him, but for some reason Sole considers it a comfort to keep around.

Deacon- Gage, for all his faults, is not a liar; and he can’t stand liars. He doesn’t trust Deacon half as far as he could throw him, and it drives him crazy that Sole does. He’s forever keeping a cautious eye on the railroad spy, waiting for some shifty shit to go down.

Dogmeat- Gage tries to act all tough and indifferent to the “mutt” at first, but soon falls in love with man’s best friend. When he thinks no one’s looking, he even sometimes shares his food with Dogmeat. Sole has caught him more than once passed out curled up on the couch with fluffbutt over there.

Hancock- Hates him at first; chem downing junkie ghoul that he is. Gage warms up to him though, as he realizes that Goodneighbor is a thriving town that doesn’t judge, and Hancock worked his ass off to make it that way. He respects and identifies with the need to walk away from family when they make a choice you just can’t respect.

He does wish he’d stop offering Sole chems though.

MacCready- Gage just can’t believe a word MacCready says about his past. A cave full of kids who kick people out once they grow up? Nope, too weird, not buying it. Because of this, he doesn’t believe a word the young mercenary says, and feels about the same for him as he does for Deacon.

Nick Valentine- Resents the hell out of him. Sole looks up to this guy-robot-synth-thing like a father figure; and like any prewar father figure, Nick doesn’t have many nice things to say about a guy like Gage. Gage finds it hard to look at Nick, he freaks him out almost as much as Curie does, just in reverse. This obviously robotic looking thing has the mind and memories of a prewar lawman, it’s not just programming, he used to be a person…but what the hell is he now? Creepy, if you ask Gage.

Piper- Oh God just so damn annoying. Does she ever shut up? Not every cause matters, and his business certainly doesn’t belong in a fucking newspaper for all to read. He hates it when Sole indulges her with tales of their exploits. Gage thinks if Piper REALLY wanted to keep her sister safe, she’d worry more about combat training than journalism. Piss the wrong person off and kiss your family goodbye; and Piper doesn’t take any care in who she pisses off. What’s more important? He’d like to ask her. Your family, or the scoop?

Strong- When he first meets Strong, Sole narrowly stops Gage from killing him on sight. At first, all Gage sees is a goddamn fucking mutie. Gage and Strong form something of a strange and unlikely friendship, full of lots of boasting and chest slapping. Gage takes an interest in Gatorclaw hunting, he likes bringing back trophies to rub in the mutant’s big dumb green face.

X6-88- At first, Gage trusts him about as much as he trusts the institute as a whole…which isn’t saying much. Surprising to himself though, he finds himself on weirdly good terms with the courser. Not too many of Sole’s companions can relate to Gage’s quiet, somewhat calculating disposition; he appreciates X6’s tendency to leave him alone. He also appreciates how X6 judges by skill, not by a warped sense of black and white morality. Neither of them are very fond of words, so the extent of their communication is a friendly nod of the head in passing.

Longfellow- Gage sits in childlike wonder when Longfellow tells the stories of his youth and the sea. He wouldn’t admit it, but he sees Longfellow as the strong father figure he wished he had in his own youth. Usually Gage doesn’t give a shit what people think of him, but it cuts him deep when Longfellow looks at him with disappointment upon finding out about Gage’s position as a raider. Longfellow’s life actually makes him consider leaving it all behind; running off to a secluded and inhospitable wilderness to build a life with Sole away from all the bullshit. Something to consider anyway.

Preston Garvey for real this time- It’s no secret that there is heated animosity between the two, but Gage can’t help but note the similarities between them. They both placed Sole in charge, taking a back seat as second in command; both of them with a fire in their hearts to accomplish their goals. Garvey’s goal however, is futile to Gage. The commonwealth, and the wasteland as a whole, is just not a peaceful place. There will always be a bigger badder monster or stronger force of manpower lurking around the corner to fuck up your day; sending in Sole to rescue people who don’t even have what it takes to stand up for themselves does nothing in the long run. Gage usually prefers to keep his distance from Garvey and his holier than thou speeches, but he always tags along when Sole goes to speak to him. He’s not above knocking Garvey’s teeth in if he tries to trash talk him to Sole again.

I’m so sorry it took me so long to get to all of these reactions, I feel extremely bad about it :(

ANGST AHEAD, this is very very over exaggerated…

(Gage/Sole Survivor)

With Nuka-World lit up like a sky full of stars, it had a new allure to it. Gage knew all the moving, singing, flashing parts would soon irritate him, but for now, he was basking in the excitement it brought. Something about the color made the parks less offensive, despite their still-hostile residents.                            The Overboss seemed equally content. They walked around a bit more self-assured knowing the men approved of the awakening of the long-dormant theme park- warming its pre-war inner-workings. From his place leaning against the counter of the Grille, a half-downed glass of whiskey in his calloused hand, everything seemed damn fine. He’d once again secured his place as an indispensable cog in the Raider Hive, and felt safer against Nisha’s threats, knowing he’d provided her and the other bosses one hell of an Overboss.

His eyelids lowered a bit. Most days he still felt the weight of Colter’s boot on his throat- an unshakable echo of having that failure on his shoulders. Once bitten, and all that.

Perhaps he’d thought that being untrusting would be freeing. Absolve him of responsibility in some way, if all he had to care about was himself. But the longer he stayed in the lion’s den; Colter breathing down his neck and the bosses nipping at his heels- all his work in the shadows began to cage him. He never did become the kingpin puppet-master he’d intended to be, under Colter. He’d been just as trapped, just as naive as he had been with Connor.

And then came Sole. The pinnacle of everything he’d needed, and with impeccable timing as well. Divested Colter of his life, and dethroned him in the process. Took their place at the head of the Hive, and shouldered their way through chin-high shit to trounce the parks. Gage smirked a little. Yes, content was the word. A little bit proud of himself, too. Definitely pleased with Sole’s indisputably satisfying performance. And with impeccable timing, the elevator doors hissed, and his Overboss stepped through. The dusk had alleviated, leaving only a dark blue across the sky that was rather vapid in comparison to the shining parks before him. Sole took a seat on the leather of the bar stool beside him, and he grunted with acknowledgement. They eyed his drink with interest, and he reached for a glass, to pour the remainder of the bottle for them. It was silent for quite some time, both enjoying the liquor and the lights.

“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” They asked.                                                               

“Mm. Damn right. And it’s all ours.” He drawled.

They laughed a little, lowly. “I forgot you only think in monetary value.”

Gage raised an eyebrow. “Should I think differently?” He asked.

They thought for a moment, sipping the last of their drink. “I don’t know. It’s just odd. Being surrounded by people, and that’s all they think about. Stuff. And what it’s worth.”

Perhaps it was the alcohol, but his interest was piqued. If it were a night with Colter, he’d be wasted and shouting about killing and stealing. Simple enough, Gage supposed, but the enigmatic mind before him spoke of more intriguing complexity. “So what did you do it for, then? All this?” He asked, southern lilt hinting at curiosity.

“Other than everybody threatening to kill me if I didn’t?” They replied, Gage chuckling lightly. Sole turned to him, setting their glass on the bar counter. “I did it so I could change this place. Shape it into something better. Progress.”

If Gage felt there was more they wanted to say, he didn’t press. “That so…” He muttered, voice rumbling. If it were anybody else, he’d think they were an idiot for an answer like that. But after everything Sole had done, it didn’t seem like childish idealism. He knew they were capable. And for that, they had his respect. Admiration, even.

“You don’t have to be so edgy, you know. I also… I also did it so people like you could feel safe. I know after all that Harvester business, that probably seems stupid, but… I wanted to make it safe here. Not just for the traders.” The softness, sincereness in their voice made his jaw clench. Up until now everything had been a shit-show, sure. And Sole had only ever made good on their word. But was this a slip? A moment where he would let his guard down, and pay for it in kind? They last time he took a leap of faith, the world took his eye. That emptiness wouldn’t let him forget what betrayal was. But if trust had brought him ruin, and throwing up his walls had only caged him- was there really a right answer? Was there really any way to protect himself? He was at a lose-lose cross roads that his own volition had led him down.

“You can relax.” Snapping into focus, he noticed Sole’s hand on his face. Their thumb softly caressed his scarred skin, with their fingers resting on his stubbled jaw. His doubt was virulent, even as their eyes were soft and merciful on his. As small a gesture as the touch was, it was a nearly overwhelming gentleness, discreetness that he hadn’t seen displayed in years. He couldn’t imagine the boyish look on his face, nor did he want to. He could have killed them, then, for ever making him so vulnerable. But instead, almost thoughtlessly, he moved his own hand over theirs. If he was to get a knife in the back, if this was to be the wood of his pyre, he couldn’t imagine a kinder downfall. He trusted them; if only out of exhaustion- he couldn’t take any more lion’s dens, any more cages. But he trusted them nonetheless. Fully, completely, and with gentleness.

How do you think Mags Black would handle a love interest? Like how would she act around them.

mags black would: 

- would try and keep it on the down low; love meant vulnerability, and that was weakness after all, something nukaworld had a very low tolerance for.  when eventually their love interest would decide enough is enough, they couldn’t hide it anymore, mags would probably break it off.  painful as it would be, she had a job to do.

- very rarely does she date, this is partially for what was mentioned above, and partially due to the fact that she has very high standards.  if she has a poor first impression of someone, they don’t get a first date, and most make a poor first impression.  on the first date, she is hard to please and high maintenance, so usually, it stops there.

- will insist on ending each day with her significant other.  she has to keep cool around them literally every other time, as such their night plans/sharing a bed/end of the day routine is sacred to her.

- it’s always been her and william against the world, so really, you have to impress both of them, to get one.  however, they both think that no one is good enough for the other, so they don’t get out much.  william also has set a standard for men in her life, having been the only one who’s stepped up (distant, estranged father), as such, however good a potential suitor is, if they exhibit traits opposite of william (cautious, studied, discrete) by being, for an example (loud, boisterous, outgoing, etc.) she can’t help but consider those weak/poor traits for a partner.

- in three words, her ideal partner would be; self-sufficient, ambitious, resourceful.

i love your head canons!!! they’re so fitting and in character <3. real talk: what would gage be like if his partner got pregnant?

Thank you! Gage is probably one of my favorite characters out of all of the Fallout games(I may be a little biased because he kind of reminds me of my husband lol) This particular ask is going to be SUPER fun for me to answer, because I’m actually currently in the beginning stages of labor, so pregnancy is something I’m very familiar with by this point! Lol I may do a SoleXGage fic about it later

Anyway, onto the Headcanons

-Gage has SUPER mixed feelings about getting his partner pregnant. On the one hand, he’s terrified; he sees kids as something your enemies can use against you, something that can be taken away; but on the other hand, he’s very excited to be a daddy.

-He’s EXTREMELY protective of his partner and their unborn baby. It digs up old wounds about his own parents; watching his father knuckle under to the raider gangs. He’s determined to be stronger than that.

-He would be fascinated by his partner’s changing body. Watching her abdomen grow with his child; especially when he can feel and see the baby kick, would absolutely mesmerize him. He would consider every stretch mark permanent proof that life had grown within her, he’d be extremely proud.

-He would think about tracking down his parents. Upon accepting that he’s going to be a father, something very angry deep inside him would make him want to confront his parents. Make them KNOW he’s not going to fail his family like they failed him. The more rational part of him would keep him from acting on this, after all, he believes they’re probably dead.

-He would feel a LOT of pressure. He’s determined to be a good father and protector for his family; it would stress him out a good deal, especially with some of the scumbags they work with in Nuka World.

-He would seriously consider leaving Nuka World. With sickos like Nisha and her disciples being around, the danger his child would be in terrifies him. On the one hand, there is safety in numbers, and ruling Nuka World is a sweet gig, but is it worth the risk?

-He would really start to think about his life. The raider lifestyle specifically; is it really the way he wants his child to grow up? He’s old enough and seen enough to know that chems and booze will lead a person to ruin; can he expect his child to make the same choices when everyone around them lives like animals?

-He’d be terrified of losing his partner. It’s not like there is a lot of amazing medical care in the Commonwealth; would they have complications? Would the baby survive? Would she survive?

-He’d be really annoyed with his partner’s moodswings and cravings, but would do his best to be understanding and try to cater to her. After all, he can’t really imagine what she’s going through.

-He’d be SUPER protective over her, probably enough to piss her off. He wouldn’t want her in harm’s way at all, if he had it his way she wouldn’t leave Fizztop until the baby was born, but she probably won’t have any of it, so he settles for constantly pestering her about if she’s feeling okay, if she needs more water, that she needs to eat more. He practically loses his mind every time she tries to fight or goes near anything too irradiated.

-If he had to deliver the baby, he’d be amazing. He’s the type of man who is good at remaining calm in high-stress situations. If you survive, you can panic after you take care of business. He’d have to use skills from his childhood, birthing brahmin on the family farm, to make it through. He may or may not pass out once everything is okay lol

-If his partner died in childbirth, he would take the baby and run. (@tea-petty has a great fic about this btw). He knows how the other Nuka World bosses feel about him; he wouldn’t dare endanger his child by going back without the Overboss.

-He would keep a toy car in his pocket. He would do this at all times so when he felt like the stress was getting to him, he could hold the toy and remind himself that he’s got bigger things to worry about than himself now.

-He’d be a way bigger hardass as a dad than you’d expect; especially if he left the raider life behind. He’d be extra concerned with making sure his kid didn’t make the same mistakes he did.

-If we’re specifically talking about him getting Sole pregnant, all of his overprotectiveness would be doubly so. He would be determined not to let her down like Nate did.

Gage gets flustered by more than we realize, he looks away when Sole look at him directly too long even. Without the eye patch he might play it cool but I think he would be real flustered, he's acutely aware of his scars and such. Nice/soft affections would be somewhere between awkward and flustered for a bit too I think.

oh yes.  upon first moving in together, on one of their first nights, sole watched as gage removed his eyepatch, setting it on their now-shared nightstand.  sole wantingly crossed the threshold between them.  he stiffened as he felt their fingers on his face, gently rubbing soothing circles into the indents his coarse patch made on him.  he flinched away from their touch, ensuring that his bad eye was out of sight.  sole tugs him in, brushing their lips tenderly against the eyelid of his ruined one.  

this flusters him greatly, and he is grasping frantically for his voice, which he’s unable to find in time.  

he also gets blushy/flustered/attempts to play it way cool when he feels sole casually thread their fingers through his.

Hey can we get some Danse and synth Shaun head cannons pls?? I have a lot of Danse feels...

I also have a lot of Danse feels. We’re in this together.

-At first, Danse is really cold to Shaun. It’s hard enough to accept that he’s a synth, but Shaun is a constant reminder of his true identity. Every time he manages to get away from it for even a moment, the kid shows up and brings him right back down to Earth.

-Honestly, he’d rather just ignore Shaun and try to deal with everything first, but there’s a much bigger part of him that sees Shaun like he would any of the scribes. So it’s a strange game for him. He can’t help but protect Shaun, but he doesn’t overly want to spend time with him, either. In a way, he becomes Shaun’s silent guardian angel, who swoops in at the last minute to stop him from getting hurt and explains why that’s dangerous and how to do things safely, then retreats and won’t talk to him after that.

-Shaun, of course, thinks Danse is the coolest thing ever. It’s the power armor. Any kid would be fascinated by it, but Danse is even cooler for Shaun because he’s a mystery. Not only is he really nice, but he’s got awesome power armor and to Shaun, it seems that he knows everything. He doesn’t get why Danse isn’t very friendly to him outside of helping him, though.

-Eventually, Shaun will break Danse down, and he won’t be able to resist taking the kid under his wing. It starts with Shaun asking him all these questions about his power armor and weapons mods, and Danse answering because the kid seems to have a genuine interest. Before sole knows it, there’s a morning routine of Danse taking Shaun to help him with his power armor maintenance. Shaun absolutely loves this.

-Shaun helps Danse in a lot of ways, too, because the kid really doesn’t seem to care that he’s a synth. Both of them are, and Shaun knows this, but he’s so unaffected by it that it really helps Danse to get past the idea that synths are all monsters. After all, Shaun’s a really sweet kid, and Danse would never say anything bad about him, no matter if he’s a synth or not. It gets him thinking differently about synths altogether, which really helps with his recovery process.

-Over time, they become practically inseparable. Danse carries Shaun around with him on patrol, with the kid perched on his shoulders, hands in Danse’s hair. They play catch with Dogmeat on weekends. Shaun is the safest kid in all the Commonwealth, because you can guarantee Danse is never, ever going to let anything happen to him.

Cait and Synth Shaun Headcanons

-Cait is genuinely scared of being around Shaun at first. She knows she didn’t have the best childhood, and as soon as Shaun comes into the picture, the idea comes into her head that she could end up just as cruel as her parents. It’s the only behavior she knows, is her reasoning, so she steers clear of him. Sole tries to convince her otherwise but to no avail. She avoids the kid like the plague.

-Shaun, to be fair, is a little scared of Cait, too. Of all the companions, he thinks she’s one of the most intimidating. One of the coolest, yeah, but also scary. Piper might have told him some stories that weren’t entirely true, and while it’s cool that Cait can kill a deathclaw with one punch, it’s also pretty scary. He sticks to admiring from afar, mostly.

-They’re forced to interact when sole asks Cait to take care of Shaun while they’re away. It’s pretty awkward at first, both of them kinda ignoring each other, but Shaun’s curiosity wins out over his fear in the end and he starts asking a bunch of questions. “How strong are you? What’s the biggest thing you’ve ever lifted? Can you really kill a deathclaw with one punch? What’s your favorite color?” Just really innocent questions to try to get tk know her better because he wants to make a friend.

-Cait is pretty easily swayed by the trust Shaun places in her. He’s not affected by her past, because he doesn’t know about it. He’s her shot for a fresh start. Plus, the kid is so dang sweet she just wants to make him happy. His blind faith in her gives her some faith in herself, and she lets herself try to be better than her parents. She starts interacting with him, talking about her max weight and her favorite color and how she didn’t quite kill that deathclaw in one punch persay, but she certainly didn’t have a weapon.

-Shaun starts to learn from her. How do you throw a punch? Cait will show him. What stance should he use? Cait will show him. He loves it and can’t wait to show sole everything he learned from Cait when they get back. Cait learns she actually really likes kids, or at least, she likes Shaun. It’s a good feeling to be able to lay down at night and know that she’s a better person than she’s ever been, and definitely better than her parents were.

-Sole almost passed out when they got back to see them sparring, but that’s their problem.
