summary - yeonjun can't think of not being by your side and you wouldn't have it any other way.
genre - fluff, falling in love, friends to lovers, sharing a room, yeonjun is whipped
"you've been clingy lately. is there something going on that i don't know about?"
yeonjun opts to shake his head, never once letting go of you who's currently squished under the heavy weight of yeonjun's body. yeonjun was left feeling the need to barge into his best friend's room and quite literally tackle you in bed. looking back at it, he figures it's due to the fact that you haven't spent as much time as before, both of you busy with individual schedules and when you did have your free time, you would either be fast asleep or on lenghty calls with your family.
yeonjun isn't upset over that.
this is one of the rare occasions, he thinks. finally getting you alone, all to himself. he missed this.
"you're lucky i already showered." your giggle makes yeonjun shuffle even closer, wrapping his arms around your warm body.
"i would've cuddled you in the shower, too. absolutely no problem."
"i have no doubts about that."
it's been proven to be a real challenge to stay away from you, even for a few minutes. he doesn't like to think of himself as a baby that needs constant attention but it may very well be the case with you and your calming presence.
practically glued to your side, he closes his eyes and preens at the way his freshly washed hair is being carded through, long and gentle fingers massaging his scalp from time to time. his whole body goes limp, melting against you when your other hand lays on his broad back and works the stiffness out of his muscles. you lay like that for a while in silence, save for yeonjun's content sighs and your words of appraisal.
"i'm starting to think that you missed me real good."
yeonjun nuzzles his face further in your neck, pulling a breathy laugh from you beneath him at the ticklish movement.
"of course I did." he murmurs against your skin, voice low and affectionate. "didn't you miss me, too, ynie?" one of his hands moves from your waist and slides under your shirt, drawing circles on your skin with his finger. your chuckles turn to full blown laughter and yeonjun's heart soars.
"hey! stop that, it tickles!"
still wriggling and laughing, you try to push yeonjun off the bed. it proves to be a real challenge when he sprawls his body entirely over yours and knocks the breath out of your lungs.
"not until you say it too. do you know how hurt I am? unrequited feelings are no joke, y/n." he fake cries and you slap his back playfully.
"i missed you too, dumbass."
"now can you please move before you kill me?"
yeonjun does as told and settles back beside you, satisfied with himself as your warmth envelopes him again.
"i really mean it, yeonjun. i missed you a lot."
yeonjun can hear the smile in your voice and his heart does a somersault. he knows this feeling all too well.
"i know."

"that's not fair! i've been playing this game for months, struggling and wasting all my nights to get this far! what about you? you just waltzed in here and swooped every critical fighter like the sly predatory bird you are!"
"how is that my fault? It's about being lucky, and clearly, luck hasn't been on your side but mine!"
"i'm about to swing this controller at you, beomgyu! don't try me, you know I'd do it."
"oh yeah? do it then."
woken up from the commotion downstairs, you sigh heavily and make your way towards the living room, immediately welcomed by two arguing boys. beomgyu and soobin, having another quarell over video games, while the rest of your roommates watch with either amusement or exasperation. your eyes scan the area until they eventually seize yeonjun's figure in the kitchen, having a glass of water. on your way to the kitchen you pass by an exhausted taehyun who pats your shoulder and moves to break the two rascals apart. you can only laugh at his poor attempts to get beomgyu off soobin's back.
pulling your gaze away from the guys, you return to staring at the object of your affection. yeonjun seems to be spacing out again, that hilarious blank expression making you shake your head in amusement. his hair sticks out in all directions and the urge to run your fingers through it is strong enough to make you do just that. approaching him silently as to not spook him, you settle behind him and caress his soft hair, making him look at least a bit presentable. yeonjun leans against you by instinct and nuzzles his head in the soft hoodie of his best friend.
"morning, sleepyhead. spacing out again?"
yeonjun sets the empty glass on the counter and turns around to circle his arms around your middle. almost falling off his chair, yeonjun looks extremely comical and you move just a bit forward to accomodate him.
"morning.." he mumbles. "the roommates woke me up."
"yeah, me too. was hoping on sleeping in for at least a few more hours."
"well, plans ruined."
"we can do something else today though. what do you say about shopping?"
the simple offer has yeonjun bouncing on his feet and all ready to go despite it being only morning. the excitement is infectious, you can feel it seep through your skin and gradually, a fond smile takes over your features.
"i'm suddenly not sleepy anymore. let's have breakfast and go."
"ramen?"
"ramen."
------
"how about this one?"
yeonjun points at a somewhat simple yet fancy silver bracelet that has an infinity symbol carved on it in the color black. he thinks it looks nice enough to show it to you so he beckons you over with a smile.
you've been shopping for clothes for approximately two hours, scanning rows and rows of clothes ranging from casual to something more expensive. both of your wardrobes needed a refresh and so it wasn't a problem of spending too much or buying too many articles. you both share a common interest for fashion, things went smoothly but there's something missing. accessories. matching ones at that.
you peek over your shoulder with great interest, eyes practically glowing at the sight of the stylish bracelet and matching necklace.
"it's cool and all but.." you snicker. "look at the price tag, yeonjun. it's crazy."
"do you like it?"
you start twirling your hair, something you do when you're embarrassed. "i mean, yeah, who wouldn't? it's totally my style. but we can't waste so much money on this. we'll go broke in no time." you laugh, pat yeonjun's shoulder and move towards the exit of the shop, seemingly ready to return to your shared apartment.
yeonjun can't possibly go home without buying the matching set and so he approaches the cashier.
"uhm, hello. may i purchase these?"
the lady looks up at him with a knowing smile. "is it a present for the person who's waiting outside?"
he can feel his face heat up at the implication of her words. "something like that. y/n really likes the bracelet."
"is that so? i happened to hear your conversation earlier." she leans closer to whisper. "we don't normally do this thing but i can make an exception for you two and sell these to you at a lower price."
"are you sure? i wouldn't want you to get in trouble-"
"it's no problem."
she's still all smiles and sunshine as she wraps up the accessories and gives them to yeonjun. he tucks them safely in his bag and thanks her a million times before finally leaving the shop and joining you. you look up at him dubiously, eyeing the bags in his hands.
"what took you so long?"
"i was..looking around some more."
"really?"
you start walking back home and the nervousness of carrying your present is enough to make his legs go limp. what will be your reaction upon seeing that he bought the matching set after all? you couldn't possibly be mad, right? he sure hopes so.
"yeah, really."
-----
freshly out of the shower, yeonjun lays in the comfort of his bed and fiddles with the bag that shelters what he just bought for you. you are still showering, he can hear the water running and the groovy tune of a song that he's been listening to lately. your voice sounds a bit muffled yet yeonjun can discern a few words here and there and the more he listens, the more his nerves subside and he finds himself spacing out a second time that day. surely nothing can go wrong, he tells himself. he'll confidently reveal the gift, place the bracelet around your wrist then wear his own necklace and call it a day.
you've always talked about wearing something memorable for the both of you and this is the perfect time for it.
he doesn't know how much time has passed but it must've been a while because in front of him stand you, hair already dry, skin flushed from the steam in the shower, comfortable sweatpants and a loose shirt already on. with a quick shake of his head, yeonjun smiles at the confused look you give him.
"seriously, what's up with you? you've been spacing out again." you point out, seemingly amused. "and why are you gripping that bag?"
"close your eyes?"
"what did you do this time, yeonjun?"
"please just close them. you'll find out."
as soon as you do as told, his hands fumble with the fancy bag and pull out the small box that holds both the bracelet and necklace, a sappy smile already on his face. he's buzzing with excitement at the prospect of him and you growing even closer.
"it's been two minutes. can I open them already?" your right leg is shaking, anxiety bubbling beneath your skin.
"oh, sorry. open them."
you take a while to adjust to whatever you're seeing in yeonjun's hand. you see the small, sophisticated box along with what's in it and you freeze. the bracelet you just saw at the shop earlier today. and a matching necklace. your palms start to sweat and your heartbeat picks up speed at the gesture. silly yeonjun can't resist buying things that you like, no matter what anyone else says. you should've known better. yeonjun is incredibily stubborn when he wants to be. you look up at him and searches his eyes, all full of adoration, pride and excitement. your heart swells, barely concealing the smile that only seems to grow wider when yeonjun fiddles with his fingers and waits for a reaction.
"you said you liked it and i..bought it. even though you said i shouldn't. i couldn't help it. if you don't want it i can return it-"
"you're a real piece of work, you know that?" you let out a breathy laugh and shuffle closer to yeonjun's flushed face, scanning each and every detail of it, engraving it in your mind. no one else has ever gone to such lenghts to make you happy. "you never listen to me, do you?"
yeonjun gulps when your fingers caress the side of his face, falls into a deep trance the more he looks into your eyes.
"i wanted to make you happy." he murmurs, closing his eyes as soon as your lips touch his forehead.
"i am happy just being here with you. material things don't have the same effect you have on me, you know? sure, they do look nice, but they could never replace you." he lets himself be pulled into your arms. "i can appreciate the meaning behind your gift though. never took you for the romantic type."
yeonjun chuckles and traces a finger across your wrist. the bracelet is carefully being clasped around it and it suits you so well that he mentally pats himself on the back.
"i can be anything you want, y/n."
your heartbeat picks up speed at the implication, hands shaking as you place the silver necklace around yeonjun's neck. pretty, you think.
"anything? are you sure?" a teasing lilt accompanies your voice. you push forward, testing the waters between you. yeonjun doesn't step back.
"when have I ever been unsure?"
"what if I want you to be my boyfriend?"
yeonjun's breath stutters in his chest, alarms ringing in his head as he pulls just slightly away to come face to face with your pretty face. though unexpected, he's not entirely surprised. the tension has always been there somewhere around you. a bit too close to be just best friends, ever since the beginning.
"i'd gladly be."
your lips form a teasing smile, all inviting and soft. yeonjun glances down then back up, a silent hint. you take it, of course you do. shuffling even closer, yeonjun is once again reminded of how enamored he is, of how much he'd do for you.
"is that so? prove it."
yeonjun does just that. he immediately closes the small gap between you and seizes your lips in a searing kiss, stealing all your breath away. your hands find each other, intertwining and holding tight, lips chasing each other with the fervor of feelings being hidden all these years. intoxicating, yeonjun quickly realizes. you use the advantage of your better position to push even closer to yeonjun, running fingers through his hair as your lips part and gasps for air fill the silence in the room. neither of you move an inch away, simply staring in each other's eyes, bracelet and necklace somewhat glowing under the soft lights.
"so? are you mine yet?" yeonjun's teeth comes into view with how wide he's smiling and you are forced to squash the urge to hug him so tight that your bodies morph into one.
thinking back on it, you figure you've always been each other's. a silent agreement. despite voicing it out just now, you have always known.
"i think i've been yours since the first time i saw you."
"augh, that was a bit too much."
"shut it, yeonjun."
this is just another step into their journey. nothing will change between you and you are sure you'll only grow closer as time passes.

kang taehyun has terrible luck with lab partners.
he figures it comes with the territory — labs can be stressful, and sometimes the procedures written by the chemistry department are, at best, redundant, and, at worst, practically unintelligible. past partners have royally screwed him over by messing up the experiment halfway through, then banking on him to fix everything with the little time that is remaining. despite his annoyance, taehyun is well aware that he is not perfect; he has messed up experiments before, too, and he can easily admit that. however, unlike some of his peers (see: choi beomgyu, forensic science major), he will always clean up his own mess without anyone else’s help.
after last week’s class that only covered lab safety procedures, the first actual experiment day in his organic chemistry lab brings with it a looming sense of dread. he’s sitting outside the lab and waiting for class to begin, praying that he is not paired up with beomgyu again, not after the fiasco last semester in which he was seconds away from blowing up the science building.
within a few minutes, the lab instructor props open the door, announcing that partner pairings could be found near the fume hoods. once he walks up to the paper, he sighs, crosses his fingers, and searches for his name. directly next to his, he finds a name that he doesn’t recognize. despite this, he mentally fist pumps; anyone is better than beomgyu at this point.
“looks like we’re partners,” he hears from next to him. the finger he was using to search for his name lifts from the paper, and he swivels his head over to find you, donned in similar attire of a white coat and safety goggles, a small smile spread across your lips. you extend your arm, introducing yourself more formally. “i’m looking forward to working with you.”
“same here.” he moves to shake your outstretched hand, though he’s not sure if he means it yet, unsure of how you operate in a lab. really, it all depends on how well you work together.
“what’s your major?” you ask in an attempt to strike up conversation while you grab all of the necessary flasks and beakers and other tools required for this experiment. synthesis of aspirin — should be simple enough.
“biochem, and i’m also pre-med,” he says, before he’s asking for your own. your answer colors him shocked: you’re the same major, and on the same pre-med track? then…
“how come i’ve never seen you before?” he questions as he sets up some of the apparatus. you simply shrug in response while you finish setting up the other half. it’s impressive how quickly, how accurately, you complete it. is his bad luck finally gone? are you the lab partner that he’s been wishing for?
“i tend to keep to myself. ‘m not a fan of most people.” you’re already starting the experiment, scanning over the procedures to ensure that you’re doing everything correctly. “is the steam bath ready? the salicylic acid is all dissolved.”
“yeah, give it here.” you carefully slide it over the benchtop and he places the flask in the bath. as you wait the proper amount of time, he can’t help but ask, “am i most people?”
“i’m not sure yet. we’ll just have to see, won’t we?” and you’re almost smirking, a teasing lilt in your voice. it should be annoying after getting a total of three hours of sleep, and yet it only serves to intrigue him. you say that you don’t like people, and yet you’re basically a master at conversation; you can tease and crack jokes but still keep track of everything that is going on in front of you. it’s impressive. so far, he really likes you — in the most platonic, professional way possible, of course. you just met, and your only lab partners. nothing more, nothing less.
the two of you work in almost perfect tandem until the experiment is finally complete, all data collected and post-lab questions already answered for the report that’s due next week. relief floods his veins the moment the two of you exit the stuffy, humid lab, stripping yourselves of your coats and groaning at the sensation of the post-experiment grime that clings to the skin of your faces. you haphazardly shove the article of clothing into your backpack, unbothered by potential wrinkles. you give him a playful salute before you’re moving to leave.
“good work, kang,” you comment, grinning tiredly as you walk backwards. you spin to face away from him and call over your shoulder, “see you in lecture!”
“actually,” he starts. you spin on your heel, a curious quirk in your brow as you stare at him. “you wanna grab some food? i’m sure you’re starving, too.”
and you’re smiling wider, and his heart is beating faster and no, he’s absolutely, positively not forming a little crush on you. he just admires your competence, the rational part of his brain supplies. you’re lab partners, completely professional, newly acquainted lab partners that barely even know each other, though he finds himself strongly hoping that you’ll say yes.
your fingers loosely grip the straps of your backpack, eyes lighting up, as you respond. “yeah, i'd like that. wanna get chick-fil-a?”
“it’s like you read my mind,” he quips, celebrating internally. “i’ve been craving that all day.”
as he falls into step next to you — the two of you complaining about the professors that you share and promising to sit next to each other and study together from now on — taehyun begins to think that luck is finally on his side.
“so,” he draws out, one eyebrow raised in an inquisitive expression. you glance over at him through the corner of your eye, urging him to continue with an impatient wave of your hand. “am i most people now?”
chuckling, you jostle his arm with your elbow. “nah, i think i might be able to tolerate you.”

“I never expected to experience this type of betrayal,” you told your best friend Ivy, feeling as dramatic as the statement sounded. Looking at her with a sullen expression, you sighed. “My heart hurts.”
“And my head cannot deal with you right now,” she replied with a strong eye roll, shaking her loose copper curls over her shoulder. “Only you would take this as an opportunity to mourn.”
“It’s a great loss to our city,” another voice interjected, and you turned to look at the man standing nearby. He cupped his chest as he looked up at the closed storefront. “They made the best donuts I’ve ever tasted.”
“Right?!” you whined, jerking away from Ivy to commiserate with the handsome stranger.
You were stunned when Mingyu walked through the door. Not because of the obvious, however.
You weren’t like the rest of the population who thought of the tall man as incredibly handsome and fawned at his feet. Sure, you could acknowledge that when he was created, his maker dumped him in the physical appearance container one too many times. You just weren’t someone who went ga-ga over attractive guys.
No, you were stunned because Mingyu had no perceived reason to come into your department at all at this point in the day. You serviced many people on the university campus every Friday. Those who came into your little office in the Clubs department were of a certain type.
Those who found dating hard.
You simply couldn’t imagine Kim Mingyu having troubles with dating at all.

It’s been almost a year since he first talked to you online.
He had visited the online forum of his favorite cafe, Café Julio, to ask why the Iced Americano he bought that day tasted different. If they had changed the coffee beans. It was a short question he didn’t think much of. He even nearly forgot about it but then he saw your reply, explaining the new beans and the huge difference in taste and quality. Wonwoo’s first impression of you wasn’t the best to be honest. Although it might have been just a normal answer to a question for you, for him it sounded a little arrogant. He just couldn’t help it. Wonwoo felt as if his teacher was giving him an ear full because he didn’t study enough and wasn’t aware of the new selection of coffee at his favorite place.
Contemplating if he should reply to you, he decided against it. Instead, he started the game he was currently liking a lot, Legends of Runeterra.
After your first encounter online because of the new coffee beans, it took another 2 months until he talked to you again. Same place, the online forum of Café Julio, but this time the topic was different. He didn’t know that you were a gamer as well. It was a surprise to find other discussions, especially about his favorite game in which you were quite actively talking with others.
So it happened almost naturally that he started to change his opinion about you. You were actually very funny, and to his liking, very clever.
“You ever wonder what it’s like to live underwater?” You shot Joshua an amused expression as he kept a dead serious look on his face. “I’m serious!” He chuckles halfheartedly, “It’s dark and cold and you can’t see anything down there.”
You stop by a jellyfish tank, watching the beautiful creatures float. “Josh, I think you just answered your own question.”
Joshua had finally asked you out on a date, and it just so happened to be at the aquarium. It was going great so far. You visited many saltwater and freshwater exhibits as well as passed by the gift shop to purchase a stuffed animal.
Your mutual friend, Jeonghan, had been dying to get you and Joshua together for so long. It only took three months to get Joshua to admit he liked you and another three to ask you out. This was an emotional and victorious day for Jeonghan who was waiting back in his apartment to hear all the details.
With one arm, you hugged the toy close to your chest, staring at the jellyfish. “I mean, even if it is dark and cold, there are beautiful things that lie beneath the surface.” You say as Joshua glances at you, the corners of his mouth pointing up.
“That’s true.” You both move away from the tank to continue on to the coral reef exhibit. “Alright next question—”
“Is it something odd again?” You giggle, stopping in front of a large tank and facing Joshua.
“Maybe,” his eyes darted everywhere to avoid eye contact, “but hear me out.” His eyes flashed with mischief for a moment and you knew he was going to ask something out of the blue. “You know how we can see water, but not air, right? Does that mean fish can’t see water, but they can see air?” He lets out a gasp, hands mimicking a mind-blown explosion as you snickered.
“Jeonghan already asked me that.”
“That man set me up for failure.”
You both shared a laugh, turning to look at the tank in front of you, watching the marine life swim by. It was relaxing.
You felt something brush the back of your hand, now processing how close Joshua was to you. Stiffening up a bit, you focused hard on the small fish in hopes to ease your nerves. You bit your lower lip, finally feeling his hand slip into your palm. You shyly smiled, turning your head away from him and not noticing his bright grin as he gazed down at your connected hands.
16. “Are you seriously giving me the silent treatment?”
31. “You snuck into my room, at 4am…to cuddle?”

It was extremely rare that you and Wonwoo argued, and you absolutely hated it the occasional time when it did happen. You weren’t even sure what started it this time. It could most likely be chalked up to personal stress that you were taking out on one another. You thought that living with your childhood best friend would be easy… but it introduced some roadblocks that the two of you weren’t used to navigating.
“All I’m asking is that you please not move my things without asking” he said, jaw tense as he held up a ruined piece of gaming equipment. Part of you felt bad that you were the reason something of his had gotten wrecked, but that hadn’t been your intention when you moved it off of the coffee table and onto the windowsill.
“If you didn’t leave you things lying around then I wouldn’t have to move them now would I” you snapped back, arms crossed as you stubbornly refused to give in. Objectively you knew you should apologize, but the hostility at which he had approached you about it rubbed you the wrong way. He sighed and ran a hand back through his hair, his jaw working as he thought about his next words.
“I knew I shouldn’t have moved in with you” he mumbled under his breath, causing your mouth to drop. It hurt… hearing that from him it really fucking hurt.
“If that’s how you feel I can always leave” you whispered, not trusting your voice enough to speak any louder. You quickly brushed past him and sped to your room, not stopping when you heard him call out for you.

There wasn’t very much about living in her own apartment that bothered Zoey. She lived with Seungcheol, but even when he had to spend the night elsewhere, it was a safe building. She’d never had a problem, not even when the power went out or during the worst of the quarantine restrictions.
But at times like these, when she was puking her guts out and had been for the past hour, she really wished she was back at the dorm with the boys.
