Ilya accidentally lets slip during a lowkey interview that he doesn't have a lot of free time lately because he's been studying for his Canadian citizenship test between games, practice, and other obligations, so that he can pass his first try at it.

"What even is riding? What is governer general? So many weird English words. Don't get me started on history. Why do I have to remember there was strike in Winnipeg a hundred years ago? Was Scott Hunter there?"

The clip goes somewhat viral, but it doesn't spread far until he's doing a post-game interview where one reporter, after asking their question about the game, asks, "Where does the name 'Canada' come from?"

"What?"

The reporter kind of embarresedly repeats, "Where does the word 'Canada' come from? It's on the Canadian citizenship test."

Ilya stares blankly for a moment then says, slowly, "It means village, I think. From Indigenous language? Why are you asking questions from citizenship test?"

The reporter shrugs. "You said you were having dfficulty studying for the test. Maybe it helps with studying?"

And THAT clip goes viral along with the first. It starts a trend of reporters asking questions from the Discover Canada study guide whenever the opportunity arises. It starts as a bit, but soon people get in invested and genuinely want to see Ilya pass his citizenship test. Fans start asking him questions from the study guide too, whenever they meet him at official events or out and about.

The first thing he does when he gets the results (after celebrating with the Hollanders and going to the bathroom to have a little cry over it), he posts them online and thanks everyone who helped him study.

At some point the cens realise Luca always says roZAnov instead of ROzanov like the rest of them and when they ask him about it he's just like "? Thats how its pronounced?" And they all send looks to roz who just nods.

"So we've just all been saying it wrong?"

"Yes. But so does every other north American. always have, I dont care."

And suddenly everyone is trying to convince him that he's allowed to insist that people pronounce it correctly and he's trying to convince them that he truly does not care because he just considers it a translation into the accent and it flows easier within english sentences.

Shane is having a little crisis in the corner mumbling rozanov to himself over and over trying to figure out if he says it right.

From then on, the whole team makes the effort to change it, and Ilya (as much as he insists it isnt necessary) is secretly touched.

Ilya stares at their bedroom ceiling. Laying awake after a stupid dream that made his heart race and his throat close up.

Beside him, Shane is sleeping soundly.

He should just let it be, let him sleep. But, the thing is- Shane made him promise. Promise to wake him up next time.

Which would just be dumb. And unneccesairy. Then we would both be awake, what is the point? But Shane had just repeated his request. Promise.

With a sigh, and quite a bit of shame clinging to him for what he is about to do, he turns and gently strokes over Shane's arm.

"Mh? Wha-?" Shane shifts onto his elbow to look around the dark room instantly. "Is it Anya? Is she throwing up again?"

The concern in Shane's voice over Anya (who had an upset stomach a month ago and they woke up to her retching) makes Ilya smile softly and push closer to him.

"No. Is me."

"You?" Shane's voice is rough from sleep and Ilya noses at his throat before he settles on his shoulder. "Yes."

"...Is your stomach okay?"

"Mhmh, all good. I had a nightmare."

"Oh." Warm arms wrap around him immediatly.

The way Shane squeezes him and presses several kisses against his hairline makes Ilya breathe out. Relieved that Shane's not annoyed with him. He knew he wouldn't be. Of course he wouldn't be. He made him promise to wake him. But, still.

"That sucks. Tell me about it?" The words are sleepily slurred together, which makes Ilya smile again.

"Mh. No." He turns his head slightly to place two pecks on Shane's chest, lingering on the second one. His hand sneaks under Shane's shirt and rubs over his stomach, a soothing back and forth. "Is all good now."

"Mh'okay." There is the slightest voice crack which makes Ilya's smile grow at the memory of Shane high as a kite on pain killers all those years ago.

"Glad you woke me up."

"Me too."
