"The land was rich and kindly, and though it had long been deserted when they entered it, it had before been well tilled, and there the king had once had many farms, cornlands, vineyards, and woods. Forty leagues it stretched from the Far Downs to the Brandywine Bridge, and fifty from the northern moors to the marshes in the south. The Hobbits named it the Shire, as the region of the authority of their Thain, and a district of well-ordered business; and there in that pleasant corner of the world they plied their well-ordered business of living, and they heeded less and less the world outside where dark things moved, until they came to think that peace and plenty were the rule in Middle-earth and the right of all sensible folk."

🇧🇷🇦🇷 Iguazu — where water goes wild 275 waterfalls on the border of Brazil and Argentina. They stretch for 2.7 km, and the tallest drop is about 82 m. It’s not just one waterfall — it’s a massive wall of water. #wonderful_world

I have a gen X coworker who uses AI for everything. Everything. I watched her use it to generate an answer to an email from a parent asking if she could accommodate a child with disabilities in her program. When I told her that I, personally, would be offended if she used AI to write an email to me, she was surprised. She could not understand why.
My mom got me an "AI birdfeeder" that sends photos of birds to your phone and tries to identify them. Putting aside the fact that I am not going to give my wifi password and photos of my street to a spyware app--why would I want a computer to identify birds for me? My mom got me this gift because she knows I enjoy identifying birds. Do people want AI to eat their food and fuck their wives for them too?
Okay but honestly, this is a big thing I've seen whenever AI gets into hobby space since it's evident the AI bros aren't into the hobby they tend to push a product which justs removes the hobby from the hobby.
I'm in TTRPG and so much the AI encroachment has basically been;
Here's a bot to design entire campaigns, it'll RP the NPCs for you
Here's a character bot to make all your characters for you
I'm building an advice AI that'll choose what action/spell is best
And similarly in the book scenes, people trying to push AI that'll read books for you and sum them up so you can maximize your book reading!
I was at the gaming bar the other night and overheard a table of newbie D&D players who had used AI to create their character sheets. Even assuming the stats and spells aren't nonsense: why are you letting a robot tell you how to play pretend with your friends??? What's next, children taking turns reading out chatbot dialogue to one another on the playground?
