The white bone spirit falls, so does her possession.
So does the king, on his knees in front of his successor. Shaking like a leaf, gasping for air as if he hadn't breathed the entire time the demon held him in her grasp. He curls up into a ball, hands holding tight onto his hair and tail finding grip around his own leg.
Everybody had been injured during the terrible final fight. To varying degrees, of course, but they had been.
And Qi Xiaotian... has been injured worse before. Actually, he might be one of the luckiest ones. All he's gotten treated by had been a few punches. His nose is bleeding but hardly is it broken. He knows for sure that mister Tang is sporting at least a broken arm and Red Son along with Long Xiaojiao have been almost completely rid of their flames in their efforts of melting the white bone spirit away, out of life for good.
Qi Xiaotian is fine. Definitely better than his trembling shifu. And yet...
"I'm sorry-," the ancient king gasps so desperately it breaks the human's heart. "I'm so sorry, I've hurt you, I'm sorry-"
Xiaotian takes the pause made out of a gulp of air as an opening- quickly kneeling in front of Sun Wukong and, with his hands on the other's shoulders, urges him upwards. "Monkey king, what are you saying?? You are hurt so much worse than me, c'mon-"
"What do I matter?!!" the king almost barks out, hands sliding from his head to his arms, claws digging in. "I've hurt you!! You've been- this ALL happened because of me. And I am sorry! I-"
Not wanting to hear any more of this, Xiaotian summons all of the strength left in his body to... pull the king into a tight hug. He isn't strong enough to force the breath out of the great sage, yet he seems to have knock it out of him with that simple action anyway.
Holding on tight, Xiaotian nuzzles into the messy fluff of the king's neck. Burying his face in the warmth of it, exhaling in relief.
"Y-you shouldn't have had to-" the king weakly tries to object.
"You are worth getting hurt for, shifu. You deserve to be protected, too."
Maybe it's the sincerity. Maybe it's the fact nobody has told him such in his entire life yet. Or maybe it's that such a young small life could mean so impossibly much to the near infinite him.
But it is the last crack within the stone monkey that he can take.
The great sage breaks apart in the arms of his student.
