Ghostbusters was my childhood obsession. I still fuck with that movie. If it's on TV, I'm watching it every time.

So I finally tried watching Frozen Empire and omfg it is awful. Like what the hell? It has no soul.

You know what? I really like Zhan Tiri.

She’s irredeemably evil and manipulative but in a way that’s so hammy and funny. She is by far the most serious threat of the series, supposedly ridiculously powerful, and seemingly omniscient, but instead of exploding people with magic she just… talks to them. She gets other people to cause problems for her. She’s like a tiny Palpatine and I love it. Also she has an adorable tiny boomerang

It gets even better because on the rare occasions she gets her hands dirty, it’s usually in the most innocuous and silly way possible. Zhan Tiri’s the fun kind of evil, not the menacing and real kind like Gothel.

I feel like Ares from Wonder Woman is a better analogy for Zhan Tiri than Palpatine, although the idea of a “master manipulator” who can bring people into conflict with the slightest movement is inherently fascinating. Making Zhan Tiri a bratty girl is certainly an interesting contrast with the “older male” who typically plays this role. 

Zhan Tiri is what you would call a “Hate Sink”, and pretty effective in that role. We hate her for bringing about the situations which have caused Cassandra to fall into villainy, but we ENJOY hating her…

Exactly. She’s definitely a great Love To Hate villainess, as opposed to Gothel, who was a “makes you legitimately scared, angry, and uncomfortable” villainess whenever she wasn’t belting out her fantastic villain song.

Ray Stantz probably has Autism

I just found out that Dan Aykroyd was diagnosed with Asperger’s (now Autism spectrum) back in the 80s. Since he based Ray Stantz’s personality on his own, that means Ray in Ghostbusters has autism. What’s funny is Ray was always my second favorite Ghostbuster right after Egon.

I’m starting to notice a pattern that just about every writer, director, and actor that I like sooner or later gets revealed as having autism. And yes, yes, I know I’m probably the most obvious-non-diagnosed-but-likely-has-it person out there. (Even my own little brother forgot that I’m classified as disabled because of my eyesight and he thought it was because of Asperger’s). But I’m already classified as legally blind because of my very poor eyesight and now I have an autoimmune disease (Crohn’s disease). I don’t really feel like dealing with more labels.

Anyway, where was I? Right, Ray. Good for you, Ray. I’m starting to to think most Ghostbusters are on the spectrum. Ray, Phoebe, Egon, and even Kylie from Extreme Ghostbusters. Paranormal investigating benefits from an obsessive love for research in subjects that interest you.

Come to the ghostbusting dork side. We have fidget spinners… I mean Neutrona Wands. (Called proton blasters in The Real Ghostbusters animated series). :-P

No wonder the first two Ghostbusters parapsychology technobabble felt so authentic. It was real babble. :-P

Dude, why did no one tell me how good the new Ghostbuster sequels are? It's got an autistic Jewish nerd girl that is never forced to be girly, a cool black girl with a great sense of humor, and a funny Asian boy whose comedy is not reliant on his being bring Asian in the slightest. The writing is so good and the worldbuilding so true to the original canon. It felt so good to watch. It wasn't particularly "woke" either as the characters were so well written without any attention being drawn to their minority status.

The female only cast bombed so badly and you had annoying people defending it and calling critics misogynistic, so where were those people when these actually good sequels popped off?

Definitely not an expert on Judaism as a religion, but the reason why I see them as Jewish is because, if an actor is an ethnicity, you kinda assume that's what their character is (unless explicitly stated otherwise like a Chinese person playing a Korean or something of the like). If Spengler is ethnically Jewish, it stands to reason that his daughter and grandkids are at the very least half and a quarter Jewish respectively.

In terms of practice from what I'm aware, Judaism is matrilineal. So if Callie were at any point practicing, her kids would be Jewish, too. That also doesn't remove the possibility that they could be atheist Jews. Anyways, would love to throw this to anyone with greater experts than myself on this matter.

Haven't seen the second one with the kids, but I hope it's not too disappointing. :<

With FE Its really a mixed bag. I did not know that you have´nt watched the movie and im sorry if i spoiled something. I personally didn´t enjoy it (in fact i hated it ) but i think you should definitely watch the movie (like you said) before forming an opinion. If you enjoyed the characters of afterlife you might like this one too :)

that's true. To me its really sad that no ones making fan fics or fan art anymore, and the limited fanart/fanfics we have are all checkmatch related ones. ( on tumblr i have something that like filters the tags for some words and when i go to the #Phoebespengler tag post after post its filled with things i filter really annoying if im honest.
